Peter Mandelson - Epstein . Should Starmer sack him?

In 2008, Epstein pleaded guilty to soliciting sec from girls as yiung as 14. He was sentenced to 18 months in prison
Mandelson continued his friendship/business dealings with Epstein. The Telegraph reports when business secretary, Mandelson brokered a deal with Epstein after the conviction for child sex offences.
I heard PM today apologising, wishing he’d never met Epstein. He went on to apologise to the victims, he hadn’t noticed abuse of girls possibly because he’s gay and was there with his partner.
My view? How was he appointed? I knew about his links with Epstein which were always going to return to haunt him

Susieq62 Thu 11-Sept-25 15:22:39

Well you are all wrong and he has been sacked by the PM
Will be interesting to see who is appointed in place of Mandelson
Where does honesty lie within our politicians? It must be very difficult for those MPs just getting on with the job to stomach the behaviour or , misbehaviour , of their fellow MPs etc!!

Sacked for his association with Trumps friend.

Gone! Not nicknamed “the prince of darkness” for nothing…

According to Keir Starmer, due process was followed before Mandelson was appointed. I seem to recall I defended the appointment, despite concerns about Mandelson’s integrity. I could see his dubious, Machiavellian personality being useful with the Trump Whitehouse. I was wrong because I’d forgotten the extent of his relationship with Epstein.

Mi6 will have known the extent of friendship, the continued contacts despite Epstein pleading guilty to procuring sex from 14 year old girls. It must have been obvious this alone would inevitably be used at some stage. Such an easy way to humiliate Starmer, to undermine his commitment to protecting the safety of women and girls

Just looked at the other thread from when he was appointed and yes, he was described as Machiavellian on there.

I was going to say louche, meaning disreputable, shady, of questionable morality but that would be too kind.

I think most on that thread were questioning the wisdom of his appointment.

Why is this piece of work a Lord??
Do they hand them out primarily to reprobates and scoundrels?

Presumably he can come back and take his seat in the House of Lords if he has the nerve.

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Thu 11-Sept-25 15:52:25

Crikey. Mandelson begging for an air ticket from a paedophile for a freebie holiday as he couldn't use his airmiles….what a piece of work our “Lord” is.

I think he had a crush on Epstein. 🤔

It beggars belief that Starmer was not fully aware of Mandelson’s background. Make no mistake that both MI5/6 will have had the absolute fullest information possible on both Mandelson and Epstein and it would be incredible that they didn’t make the UK PM aware of it before he appointed Mandelson. To now hide behind the statement that, since only yesterday, "more information has become available" is laughable. Starmer thought he could cover it up but watching how it was all panning out he’s had to be seen to do something. He’s a disgrace of the highest order.

The Labour party is crumbling by the day.

Starmer stood by Angela Rayner and couldn’t say enough good things about her just like he did with Mandelson. He is indeed a disgrace.

Don’t let that “scared rabbit in the headlights look” fool you.😉

Of course he should go and now he has. Anyone who had any idea what Epstein was doing should have gone to the police, not stayed his friend. I guess Epstein would have been a formidable foe - but going to the police would have been brave and saved more young women form abuse.

Yes ...

Many comments now outdated as SKS has indeed bowed to the inevitable pressure and sacked Mandy.

Should he have been appointed? Well, Chump probably knows him well from all those Epstein parties, and was happy to have a sympathetic British voice licking his ear? [And if anyone really thinks that Chump could have resisted taking advantage of nubile, starstruck teenage girls, please seek suitable help?!].

For those with longer memories, can you recall just HOW MANY times Mandelson got suspended by Labour for assorted corruption and dodgy loans/property dealings?

I think it was 3 or 4 times, so anyone thinking the Tories took not just the biscuit but the whole tin for political corruption (with BoJo) should have a rethink [That is NOT a voice of support for Tories --- I have a healthy streak of cynicism/contempt for just about all national politicians, any party, based on decades of evidence!).

But Mandy was heavily involved with the Bliar/Campbell greasy pole operation to get into power and stay there as long as possible, I'm surprised they didn't set up a corporation to get EVERYONE really cheap loans and mortgages?!

There's a saying that we get the politicos that we deserve, in which case the UK population must have been very naughty for a very long time?

fancythat Thu 11-Sept-25 16:37:50

I no longer think Starmer is just ""gullible", or "foolish".

Smileless2012 Thu 11-Sept-25 17:09:51

KS's an embarrassment. He should never have appointed him in the first place and as soon as this news broke, should have sacked him immediately instead of standing by him yesterday.

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Thu 11-Sept-25 19:03:09

Sir Richard Moore, next Ambassador to the USA??
Expected to step down from his role as the head of MI6 at the end of September, Sir Richard Moore could work well with American intelligence, but might clash with the White House over the war in Ukraine.

Iam64 Thu 11-Sept-25 19:46:35

I know we have to maintain our relationship with America but ….. an experienced ambassador skilled and brave enough to clash with the Whitehouse, that would be something

Even without Hugh Grant

Applegran Thu 11-Sept-25 20:12:19

Lord Gus O'Donnell? A wise man with experience of government, with integrity, good values, impressive, not much ego.......?

WithNobsOnIt Thu 11-Sept-25 20:24:59

Most definitely. Always thought he was a creep. And was christened as The Prince of Darkness by the press years ago.

Starmer should do us a all a favour and fire himself at the same time.

Just put the Tele on. BBC news reports say Mandelson has been sacked.

Hip Hop Hooray.

🦹👹💩👍

I wonder if they were in a relationship? It all seems very strange, the love expressed etc. we will never know.

TBH, the thought of a relationship hadn't really crossed my mind, but that very creepy letter made me wonder if PM was a bit in love with him.

Or was he like that with everyone who was rich...

Galaxy Thu 11-Sept-25 20:59:53

Yes perhaps that was an example of his skills as a negotiator.

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Thu 11-Sept-25 21:09:07

Yes, as I said upthread, I think Mandy had a crush on Epstein.

It’s over the top. We love you he said. I can’t think of any man I know in my family who’d write that to another man, colleague etc. I think there’s more to it than we know. Perhaps there was a relationship, bisexual etc. makes you wonder and nothing would surprise me.

Iam64 Thu 11-Sept-25 21:33:52

Several years ago, I watched a documentary produced by James Patterson the author, called Filthy Rich
Patterson was a neighbour of Epstein in Palm Beach. He became concerned about the number of under age girls coming and going from Epstein’s house. This was instrumental in the investigation leading to his conviction

Pity Keir Starmer didn’t watch it

Yes, as I said upthread, I think Mandy had a crush on Epstein.

I said the same to DH and those emails raised their heads.

More worrying is that KS really is getting this totally wrong he supported Louise Haigh - until she resigned
He supported Rayner - she resigned a day later
He supported Mandelson - he resigned.
What is wrong with the man we could all see it, they were all indefensible. Is KS so surrounded by advisors who really haven't got a clue, they are serious underestimate the general public.

Makes you wonder who will go next?

Yes, I agree, but please don't inflict that job on him!!

Why do some choose to speak of Peter Mandelson as Mandy ? Why mock again the time he was outed, it was brutal, he had kept his private life private. Suddenly he was Mandy the homosexual , he was outed on BBC Newsnight,.
Seems long time Labour supporters have forgotten it was Mandelson with Blair and Brown who gave New Labour 3 consecutive general election wins, Mandelson who spoke of the disaster of a Corbyn leadership. Criticising now ok, but lay out outing him again.
