The perpetrator’s pics show a man wearing a top emblazoned with the American flag, so my guess would be a far right activist who thought Kirk wasn’t going far enough with his rather odious views. The likelihood of someone to the left of centre wearing a nationalistic piece of clothing is not as high.
But I could be wrong.

I am deeply deeply saddened, I was aware of him because of his stance on the men in women's spaces isdies, so I have been watching him for a long time.
I think I left the 'left' last night.

The left have nothing o do with this. The reaction of the left has been fine. The right has lived up to their normal low standards. Trump poured petrol on the whole thing. They forget how they didn't give a flying F about Melissa Hortmann, her husband and her dog all shot my a deranged MAGA nut. I personally think Kirk was sacrificed by Trump to create a state of emergency to justify his authoritarian crack down on the USA. Also Kirk had backtracked on the Epstein files and was once again calling for them to be released. I am a mother to a gay daughter married to a wonderful woman and I see Kirk and his ilk as a danger to them and to women generally. Saying Taylor Swift should submit to her husband indeed!!

what’s appalled me nearly as much as a young man doing his job being murdered were the vile posts on X and various other sites celebrating his murder. I may agree with some things folk say and vehemently disagree with others but to even think that murder is the answer is evil. That the huge number celebrating this act are mainly young people should be of concern to us all

What happened to the Hortmanns was terrible . School shootings and Trump says ‘ we have to move on’. Charlie Kirk, a supporter of gun ownership, and the whole country is supposed to go into mourning.

We seem to be increasingly polarised.

I heard that some at the event cheered as he was shot.

His job was literally destroying the fabric of our society and sowing discord. He wasn't working on a cure for cancer, he was the cancer.

I expect this dreadful killing will make Trump review his own security arrangements, even though they are undoubtedly very high following the two attempted assassination attempts.
