Charlie Kirk shot

Isn’t it ironic that someone who made statements that some gun deaths are inevitable and justifiable to protect 2nd Amendment rights. - was shot by someone whose “rights” he was protecting.
Before anyone jumps on me - of course no one should be murdered for their views.

Charlie Kirk's widow gave a tearful speech about those who killed her husband "do not know what they have unleashed across this country" and her late husband was now a "martyr".

How many of Trump's speechwriters' worked on that piece of verbal choreography?

Criticising a widow, mocking the distress in her voice, why ?

I am an American. I listened to this man on the occasion he was debated at Oxford University. I was concerned that he was a very smart fast talker. I noted that he tried to force his beliefs about marriage onto his debaters. They were not buying his ideologies. They held their own in a very stoic intelligent way. In the world of Charlie Kirk, it was his way or no other way. He set himself up as a target by his argumentative approach to religion and politics. He really pushed for gun ownership for all. Sad for him and his family and for all of those that do not see that just allowing people to own guns is risking what took place yesterday. Yes, they have found the shooter. A young, college age male. The same age and demographic he tried to influence with his aggressive, holier than thou, personal beliefs.

Biden tried to put into place as many bills for the average person he could before he left office. His bills had meaning. Trump’s do not. Trump is a simpleton looking for adoration and applause for every one of his actions. He is doing absolutely nothing for gun reform, health insurance, poverty, food assistance. He is a disgrace to the United States. I am an American that cannot wait for his term to end. He has surrounded himself with third rate, inexperienced yes men…and women. So far, I have seen every one of them address Trump as if he is their God. It is really horrible to watch.

^the fact that you’re from the US doesn’t mean your every word is gospel^

Good point Oreo.
It’s an opinion from one side of the political divide there. Suits the narrative here (mostly left leaning) on GN down to the ground though - so a Democrat voice is much vaunted.

No surprise.

No amount of reasoned facts will sway you will they. You constantly try to bend the facts to suit your particular political world view and deflect when in a corner. The shooter came from a white, Mormon, religious family with a mum and dad, a retired sheriff and he had siblings. He appeared to be mixed up in the hate movement that uses the Pepe the Frog symbol. As endorsed by Trump, the person you are convinced is blameless in all of this. Pepe is a symbol used by young male ultra nationalist Christians. You go figure as they say in the USA. I am not a left winger but I can't abide febrile feeble excuses.

I have seen very clear details of what was on the casings, on most major news outlets.

Yup, looks like the FBI doesn't understand manufacturers marks as well as many other things.

IOMGran Sat 13-Sept-25 07:38:05

Thank you imaround and Terric for your informed comments. I try my best to follow this really weird culture war thing going on, and when it comes down to it I conclude it's a smoke and mirrors cover for a naked power grab. The consequences for the rest of the world are unknown and NATO is probably going to have to be reformed with different partners. I worry for the world we are leaving for our grandchildren and I am ashamed that we have let this happen on our watch.

Galaxy Sat 13-Sept-25 07:43:14

That picture is not the details of the casings that are being reported on mainstream news outlets. Presumably anyone following this story has seen the information on the casings, the details are on the BBC homepage currently.

IOMGran Sat 13-Sept-25 07:46:03

Just to add this was US Conservative reaction before they realised the shooter was one of their own

Galaxy Sat 13-Sept-25 07:48:29

I am afraid as with the information on the Trump threads,I would urge people to look at a range of mainstream news outlets.

And I reckon they are trying to make the facts fit the narrative they want, they have had time to do it after all and they look pretty damn stupid otherwise don't they?

Galaxy Sat 13-Sept-25 07:51:54

Oh I see now the BBC is in on it are they.

Magenta8 Sat 13-Sept-25 08:08:50

It is ironic that one of the things Charlie Kirk wanted to re-introduce was public executions. Let's hope that his was the first and last.

Along with his desire to encourage the ownership and use of guns this is a stunning example of be careful what you wish for.

No they are reporting what the Kash Patel led FBI are saying. Please do try to keep up.

America is eating itself- we should take note to ensure this will not happen here.

IOMGran Sat 13-Sept-25 08:17:56

Yes keepingquiet, this concerns me greatly. The same rhetoric and playbook is being used in the UK at the moment. I hope that the USA experience when the economic ramifications start to really show will make people stop and think, and the government really needs to make the media more accountable for the bilge they pump out 24/7.

ronib Sat 13-Sept-25 08:19:52

Tyler’s father Matt Robinson is not an ex policeman/sheriff. Mistaken identity.

foxie48 Sat 13-Sept-25 08:25:05

Charlie Kirk had many extremely unpleasant views tbh I don't think you need to have left leaning politics to find them unacceptable. Tbh I'm not surprised he was shot, this is America with a history of shooting people with politics you disagree with and easy access to guns. Totally wrong of course and I certainly don't applaud his death nor do I believe in the death penalty. But this is Trump's America where the president stokes division rather than plead for unity. He breaks the law rather than upholds it. He pardons law breakers for political reasons and deports others for political reasons. You don't have to be left leaning to know this is wrong.

I agree- the victim was a product of the media, which had led indirectly to his untimely death. The culprit, however, has also been birthed by the media and blown this incident out of all proportion.

For the first time in my life I fear the next generation will be far more dangerous and destructive than any previously seen and I hope to almighty God and all that is good that I am proved wrong,

It us very hard to keep up with your changing narrative IOMgran.
Your rudeness did make me laugh though

StripeyGran Sat 13-Sept-25 08:28:17

Why do people who are worried or sad or troubled have to be written off as "left leaning"

Anybody who worships Trump really has problems.

What was he then ronib?

I am here all week. The subject is very wide ranging as it touches on all aspects of these 'culture wars'. I can imagine the underbelly of the internet culture would be a complete mystery to most Grans. It's a different world with different rules on line. It's very scary what is happening to young people being radicalised by it. My own kids are keeping off line and my granddaughter will never have her picture online, we are under strict instructions on that. They understand the terrain

Galaxy Sat 13-Sept-25 08:34:16

grinare you explaining the Internet to me?

You can’t blame Trump for the assassination of Abraham Lincoln or JFK. or indeed the numerous other political figures assassinated over the years.

ronib Sat 13-Sept-25 08:46:24

IOMGran The Hindustan Times reports that Matt Robinson runs a construction firm. Amber is involved with disability care.
