Charlie Kirk shot

Isn’t it ironic that someone who made statements that some gun deaths are inevitable and justifiable to protect 2nd Amendment rights. - was shot by someone whose “rights” he was protecting.
Before anyone jumps on me - of course no one should be murdered for their views.

For accuracy, nobody posted anything within minutes of his death, the thread started the following day.

Equally awful.

However saying the next day is less of an exaggeration of the facts of what happened on Gransnet.

It was about 10 hours. Disgraceful.

Casdon Sat 13-Sept-25 20:12:13

But why exaggerate the circumstances to make a point Primrose53, it’s not necessary, and detracts from your actual point?

I am frankly shocked that so many have come on here to say dreadful things about an assassinated man within minutes of him dying.

If they didn’t like the man why don’t they just keep quiet. It is just horrible and ghoulish.

Of you live by the sword - or gun - you die by the sword. It's real, hard news in a tough world.

If we were discussing the death of a well respected and loved figure by all - maybe as an example when its the awful sadness when David Attenborough dies, then and only then I would agree.

ronib Sat 13-Sept-25 20:29:52

David Attenborough is 99 years old.
Charlie Kirk made it to 31. Leaves two very young children.

Sorry it's all so disjointed - I'm juggling childcare and domestic duties, in a foreign country!

When you have time, I would love to see the evidence please of CK’s racist posts.

Charlie Kirk had some extremely unpleasant views, if he believed them, tbh that makes him worse not better! It would be total hypocrisy to pretend that I didn't find his views despicable because he has been killed. His death doesn't change the way he lived his life but neither should his views be a reason for anyone to kill him. However, when someone makes their living from being a "media" personality they put themselves into the public arena so it is to be expected that people comment on his death as they did on his life.

I am not going anywhere. The opinions of people half way across the world who do not live in my reality have no affect on my life, and vice versa. I enjoy GN and the people I have met.

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion and I am happy to have good faith conversations, but I will call out passive aggression for what it is, a manipulation tactic.

I say what I mean and mean what I say. I make mistakes, we all do. We are human. But I have never misrepresented myself, nor do I deserve the insinuation that I am anything other than what I am, someone who thinks Kirk was a horrible person who didn't deserve to die and I worry for his poor children.

I will continue to post updates about the shooter, though things will naturally go quiet while the news cycle finds the next thing Trump gets upset over.

I am interested in the possible link of the shooter to Groypers though. I feel like this line of thinking needs a bit more digging, because if it was his motivation, we now have violent warring factions of MAGA.

I am enjoying the fall weather and working on my lawn. Have a good day everyone!

Casdon Sat 13-Sept-25 20:50:32

Well said imaround. Can you explain what you understand Groypers to be, because I’m struggling to get it?

Thank you. I welcome your insight into what it’s like living in a country that we are witnessing from afar turning into a country that we can barely recognise ( and this is only the beginning sad).

David Attenborough is a valuable human being who has shaped many lives for the better, I love his love of nature. Charlie Kirk has only added to the sum of human misery and discord. Please do not insult a great man by comparing the two.

David Attenborough would ask where your empathy is IomGran being the great man that he is.

I admit to struggling to understand the online gaming references and what they mean, do they have any political undertones or symbolism? If anybody understands more can you please explain it in simple terms?

I'm afraid I can't really explain either, but I know that it's been suggested that some of the marks in the casings retrieved from the weapons used are some kind of code.

It's been suggested that the marks are linked to codes on sites such as 4chan. The world of alt websites is a mystery to me, so I asked my son. I know he went through a phase of playing online games and visiting alt sites. There's nothing intrinsically wrong with them - they're used by gamers and people like manga artists to showcase artwork.

However, there's also something more sinister about them. These sites are the source of some of the internet memes you see passed around. Some of them are quite extremist or violent, but they're out of the control of mainstream channels. They've also become a means of communication for some very dodgy characters, who spread conspiracy theories, some of which then go viral and mainstream.

Kirk not only leaves a bereaved young wife but a three year old and a one year old baby.

Poor children. A terrible thing to have to grow up and realise your father was killed for his beliefs, even though many did not agree with them.

Most of the men killed in Gaza have left children. Sorry, I missed your weeping and wailing for them.

Many Gazan children will grow up realising the same.

For those just popping into the conversation. Here is a synopsis of what Charlie Kirk believed.

Since it has been suggested that the information I share here may not be accurate or be biased, I will tell you that every one of these can be verified. All you have to do is Google them.

No one deserves to die. This should never have happened.

This thread seems to be going in circles, as usual. I will be focusing on the shooters progress through the Justice System for now and leave you alone to bicker amongst yourselves. When I see updates today, I will post for those who are interested.

Thanks imaround

Not in such dreadful circumstances and not for their beliefs, even if they are repugnant to others.

Unless they result in the deaths of others, of course.

theworriedwell Sat 13-Sept-25 21:19:06

Melissa Hortmans children were orphaned but the murder of her and her husband didn't seem to cause as much upset, Trump certainly didn't seem very worried.

Oreo Sat 13-Sept-25 21:19:09

Wrong thread growstuff but as you’re there what about the murdered babies and children in Israel by hamas?Sorry I missed your weeping and wailing for them.

Casdon, I know very little. All I know is it has to do with a frog meme that is tied to Nick Fuentes and white supremacy. In one of the images of the shooter, people claim the DJT costume was a Groyper.

I have learned that Nick Fuentes had beef with Charlie Kirk and his followers have been harassing (?) Kirk at his events. From what I understand, Fuentes thought Kirk wasn't far-right enough.

I do realise thst, growstuff
As did many children who had fathers killed in WW2, including my DH.

Please do not insult those of us who understand what it is like to lose a parent at a very young age, or try to score points over something like that.

Whoever their fathers are, it is devastating.
