Charlie Kirk shot

Isn’t it ironic that someone who made statements that some gun deaths are inevitable and justifiable to protect 2nd Amendment rights. - was shot by someone whose “rights” he was protecting.
Before anyone jumps on me - of course no one should be murdered for their views.

“The US justice department has scrubbed a study from its website concluding that far-right extremists have killed far more Americans than any other domestic terrorist group, just days after a gunman fatally shot the prominent conservative activist Charlie Kirk.”

Would this still be available on archive.org?

They carry millions and millions of old web pages, including now deleted ones.

Perhaps imaround would be able to tell us.

I don’t recognise your definition of woke … my grandchildren are pretty hot on inequality and injustice too and they are not woke. MaizieD

Galaxy Thu 18-Sept-25 15:14:50

Well obviously an example of woke ideology is pretending men are women, misogynistic, homphobic, anti science, and authoritarian.

I am nursing a cracked rib …
Are you a practising or lapsed Christian MaizieD?
Don’t worry I am sure that the widow of Charlie Kirk will expand on Charlie’s message with full force in time.

I recently nursed three broken ribs about . What does this have to do with the conversation? It didn't affect my ability to think or read.

I was brought up in a christian household with devout parents. I sang in the church choir. I was confirmed. I was even 'born again' for a while. I have a relative who is a lay preacher.

I think I have a pretty good idea of christian beliefs and teachings from years of immersion. They were nothing like CK's.

You didn't answer my question.

I'd be pleased to see any of Kirk's mysogynist, racist or homophobic comments explained and put into a different context that didn't make them mysogynistic, racist or homophobic. tbh I find it rather terrifying to think that thousands and thousands of young Americans followed his every word and didn't question the morality of what he was saying in a wider context than one of Christian Nationalism.

Oreo Thu 18-Sept-25 15:21:25

CK isn’t alone in the US with his form of Christian beliefs, those views are shared by millions there which is why he had such a following.
Not to be compared with the sort of Christian views in the UK.

ronib Thu 18-Sept-25 15:23:30

Okay - educated by nuns in the traditional sense MaizieD. My broken rib is annoying me.
Traditional Catholic catechism surrounding the rights of the foetus were mainstream CK. I am surprised that the current Pope isn’t defending this.
As one example.

Tyler Robinson was not a Republican Chocolatelovinggran

Nor was he a Democrat. He was registered as unaffiliated.

All we know is that he was in a relationship with his roommate, who was transitioning.

Doesn't mean he is a liberal either.

Casdon Thu 18-Sept-25 15:27:19

Oreo

In the transcripts of the texts between TR and his boyfriend TR says the reason for shooting him was to stop the hate messages or similar .He doesn’t sound to have been a Republican to me.
As his boyfriend was transitioning it was likely to do with that.

I suspect he wasn’t aligned to anything political, but was angry, upset and confused about preaching which made his partner worthless, and his relationship sinful in the eyes of those who followed Kirk. For those who have been brought up in any strict doctrine, those circumstances would be very hard to take. That’s not excusing what he did at all.

Oreo Thu 18-Sept-25 15:29:13

His family said he had become more political recently and am guessing, only guessing that it had to do with trans women.

Oreo Thu 18-Sept-25 15:31:21

Hope your broken rib soon heals ronib flowers having had two broken ribs in the past I know how painful it is.

imaround Thu 18-Sept-25 15:31:48

I guess I need someone to explain to me how I am taking this out of context.

Video so you can see his own words.

"Black women do not have brain processing power to be taken seriously. You have to go steal a white person's slot."

ronib Thu 18-Sept-25 15:32:20

His family are apparently Mormon, Republicans. Was Tyler struggling with how his parents reacted to him rather than how a remote speaker thought? After all, Tyler didn’t have to listen to CK but his parents were a constant presence.

ronib Thu 18-Sept-25 15:33:51

Thanks Oreoit is making me tetchy!!

Yes, that makes sense.

As one example.

"Pope Leo XIV outlined a clear Catholic teaching on marriage and abortion Friday, noting that family is based on "stable union between a man and a woman" and that the unborn enjoy dignity as God’s creatures."

Pope Leo has spoken to marriage and abortion. ^

Here is another article with the same statistics. From Congress.gov, so a reliable source.

Try this link to the archive. Not sure why the first one didn't work.

Interesting: very right wing commentator criticises Trump for using Charlie Kirks death to trample on first amendment

(The part of the United States Constitution that protects fundamental rights, including the freedom of religion, speech, the press, assembly, and the right to petition the government for a redress of grievances)

Chocolatelovinggran Thu 18-Sept-25 16:28:53

Oreo, Christian beliefs throughout the world are based on the words of Jesus in the Gospels.
I cannot understand, then, how the USA and Britain can have a differing understanding of scripture.
I would suggest, respectfully, that however popular Mr Kirk's views might be, they are not supported by any words of Jesus, so are problematic to be described as Christian.

foxie48 Thu 18-Sept-25 16:31:31

I'm generally not a fan of Tucker Carlson but yes, Trump is using this to silence people he disagrees with. This is very dangerous for US democracy.

ronib Thu 18-Sept-25 17:12:28

The Catholic Church has always designated abortion as immoral and a mortal sin. Best take the view that 2000 years ago, abortion on demand wasn’t available and so it’s highly unlikely that Jesus would have preached on this. Chocolatelovinggran

ronib Thu 18-Sept-25 17:38:39

Correction - according to AI abortion was available as a medical technique when Jesus preached but he never spoke about it.

Jesus didn't preach The Pope, purgatory, rosaries, transubstantiation, and other matters. The Church has other, later teachings.
