Charlie Kirk shot

Isn’t it ironic that someone who made statements that some gun deaths are inevitable and justifiable to protect 2nd Amendment rights. - was shot by someone whose “rights” he was protecting.
Before anyone jumps on me - of course no one should be murdered for their views.

Why would iamround stop posting because someone disagreed with her?
On MN just prior to Trumps first election there was an American poster who was very pro Trump, lots of information to support her standpoint. Would people have been appreciative to that poster - after all lots of energy and information, I suspect not and why should they be.
I interact with posters equally if I disagree I will say so, I find it quite unusual to behave otherwise.
I don't post much on the Trump threads for various reasons, but this is a thread about possibly someone being shot for their views and that is very important to me. I suspect I have also listened to a lot more of Charlie Kirk than many on the thread, but again so what. The only behaviour I adhere to (and probably at times don't manage) are the guidelines put forward by GN.

No need for anyone to stop posting, but have to remember that
imaround is one person out of how many millions that live in the US?
It’s like one of us posting on a US social media site. Interesting to read but only giving one side of a political picture.
Because each State does things differently cannot be the measure of the whole country.Tho the US has been a secular country, Christian culture is prominent as the first settlers were Christians.Until the whole country is literally forced into being religious in a Christian way then I don’t think there’s a cause for grievance.

One person who has made a huge difference to us here on GN threads. Bravo, imaround.

DaisyAnneReturns Fri 19-Sept-25 10:07:38

I'm sure we do remember that we are each only one person Oreo. But that does not negate imaround's choice not to look away but to look up and speak.

Add to that the lack of ignorant arrogance we often hear from those 'shouting lies to make them truths' and I would say we have been very lucky that imaround has shared with us what she knows and how she knows it with us all. That never means there isn't a place for argument but it does mean that when one person stands somewhat alone we must be careful to ensure that argument does not become an attack.

Galaxy Fri 19-Sept-25 10:31:58

Nearly everyone agrees with her. That isn't in any way shape or form standing alone.
To be honest I would rather this conversation was about the incident than a poster, so I have said all I will say on that.

I reflected on my post and want to apologize for my tone. It was not what I ever intended it to be. I am not that person normally.

I am always happy to be disagreed with. I am happy to admit when I made a mistake.

My frustration lies, not on the disagreement, but in the lack of knowledge of the rights we have in the US and the way they are being brushed aside like they are nothing by the current administration.

If anyone in the US doesn't believe in the constitution, there are means to make changes. That is not happening. Instead, our rights are being violated daily.

No one's opinion or political affiliation is more important than our God given rights lined out in the Constitution of the United States.

I am putting myself in time out until my attitude improves.

We all get to that stage at some time posting on SM. Some people seem to default to that stage on a permanent basis😄.

You are not alone and you are entirely sympathised with.

Oreo Fri 19-Sept-25 10:44:19

I don’t think any post should be an attack and any poster should be free to post their opinions on a matter including Imaround and me and you. Which we are all doing.I read the posts by *Imaround with interest but don’t always agree, which is fine.

Please return when you feel ready, imaround.
I will miss your posts from the frontline of life in Mr Trump's government.

Seconded…

Thank you everyone for support. I am ok, was just having a stressful day and my emotions got the better of me.

I agree we need to turn back to the topic at hand on this thread. Other topics can be discussed elsewhere.

I briefly glanced and it appears they are recreating the suspects path after the shooting, there may have been a Dairy Queen stop (ice cream shop, not sure if that is a global company or not) I will post later if I see any updates.

Hopefully it will give us some insight into his frame of mind that day. From what I have seen from the texts/chats released so far, I didn't get the indication that he felt remorse for what he did.

Have a great day all!

Big protest by entertainers I see.

Also read a headline that Trump’s Epstein thing is about to blow up. I must investigate thst.

Oreo Fri 19-Sept-25 18:22:22

You’d have to be a top investigator Whitewavemark2 😄 I think all links to Epstein will be played down.

I see on our news that talk show hosts and comedians are rallying behind Jimmy Kimmel!

imaround Fri 19-Sept-25 21:17:56

That is what I am seeing too. It also appears Trump has more late night talk show hosts on his radar. I don't watch late night TV, so I am not fully up to speed with his problem with late night hosts.

I did see that he told off an Australian reporter earlier this week too. He really doesn't like it when people challenge him.

Allira Fri 19-Sept-25 22:24:35

Oh, must look out for that!
Australians tend to say it as it is 😀

Allira Fri 19-Sept-25 22:27:24

John Lyons from the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) asked Trump how much wealthier he had become since returning to the White House in January during Trump's state visit to the UK.

"I don't know," Trump replied, saying his children handled the businesses. He added that he would tell Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese about Lyons

"I'm going to tell teacher" said Trump 😀

CNN has a good article of how the parents of the suspect became involved and took him to the police.

foxie48 Sat 20-Sept-25 08:40:38

What hypocrisy! Trump moves against anyone who questions his actions and Vance lectures the UK about not having free speech.

Galaxy Sat 20-Sept-25 08:43:46

No more hypocritical than people now getting worried about free speech.

ronib Sat 20-Sept-25 08:55:56

A bit off topic, but it’s perfectly possible for both the governments of the USA and the UK to be reacting in tandem re free speech. Both countries seem to be going along a similar path to not sure what? foxie48

Galaxy Sat 20-Sept-25 08:57:17

You have to fight for the speech you hate, it is very simple.

ronib Sat 20-Sept-25 08:59:50

The UK tends to sleep walk its way through? Fighting has been set aside for a few years here?

imaround Sat 20-Sept-25 14:28:29

No evidence of the suspect being involved with any left wing groups. Or right wing groups for that matter.

Despite that, Trump et al have designated left wing groups as terrorist organizations.

Fun times in the US right now. Culture wars suck.

More 1st Amendment press violations.

I think there has been a certain level of fight for free speech in this country, particularly from feminists and the likes of the free speech union.
It is very complex -what do you do with the people who celebrate a murder- I don't want people removed from jobs for their views but would I feel safe being treated by a doctor who did that, I don't know.
