Isn’t it ironic that someone who made statements that some gun deaths are inevitable and justifiable to protect 2nd Amendment rights. - was shot by someone whose “rights” he was protecting.
Before anyone jumps on me - of course no one should be murdered for their views.

The U.K. does have an evangelical movement, which is a stand alone entity. It is very conservative in its teachings. I think that it has connections to the USA evangelical movement.

I guess that the Christian nationalists are an off shoot snd more radical.

Not true that Trump was disrespectful to Erika - I believe Trump admired her ability to forgive and recognised his own shortcomings when revenge was a natural response.

Trump recognised his own shortcomings? Trump??? You’ve got to be joking….

ronib Wed 24-Sept-25 07:40:46

No I heard him… MayBee70 and why should he not struggle when he’s lost a dear young friend?

keepingquiet Wed 24-Sept-25 08:43:19

Because he wasn't one? Trump doesn't have friends, just people he can use...like Epstein.

The evangelical Protestants are growing in number and becoming more of a force within the Anglican Church.
Our village Church is increasingly Evsngelical, it’s rare for traditional hymns to be sung.

If Trump had respected Kirk's widow he would have refrained from making his speech a political rally and he would not have contradicted her. The man has zero empathy and zero concern for other's well being.

ronib Wed 24-Sept-25 10:04:00

Not a contradiction at all. Trump chose not to lie.

Casdon Wed 24-Sept-25 10:34:59

He chose to self promote. At a funeral service that is the most crass of acts. You can’t defend him on that ronib, however you try.

ronib Wed 24-Sept-25 10:59:59

Not funeral but a memorial service. The coffin wasn’t there.

Smileless2012 Wed 24-Sept-25 11:04:56

Respect should be shown whether the deceased is there or not ronib.

It was a memorial service, not a political rally.

ronib Wed 24-Sept-25 11:10:36

I don’t think Charlie Kirk was disrespected. He was a political figure who would have welcomed this exposure to the world to continue his message?

Chocolatelovinggran Wed 24-Sept-25 11:14:05

Selling merchandise at a memorial service....oh, please, no.

You knew him personally did you.

Hard to imagine how or why someone would try to justify something so crass.

Try to justify ? no, sharing their opinion

Good news. Jimmy Kimmel has been restored to his show.

I read that Disney, the parent company of ABC, lost $3b because do many people cancelled services in protest. I have no idea if that is true or not as I didn't care to look it up. I do know a lot of people said they cancelled their service.

I know Target is still reeling from the continuing boycott, so I could believe the cancellations have hit Disney hard.

The most important thing is that the man did nothing wrong, he didn't say anything remotely horrible and should never have been removed.

Absolutely 👏👏👏👏👏

You have some strange ideas about what is disrespectful if you think that makes any difference ronib. What sort of person uses a memorial service, funeral, wedding, or for that matter any event dedicated to one person, to promote themselves. To coin Trump himself, only a Braggadocious person, who is totally self centred.

ronib Wed 24-Sept-25 12:45:28

I still don’t think Trump was disrespectful. He was just himself?
Do you not think that the Kirk family were not honoured that the President and his main team turned up to express their sadness at the assassination of CK?
It’s not something that happens in the UK . Casdon

LizzieDrip Wed 24-Sept-25 12:48:13

Regarding Jimmy Kimmel, Trump is threatening to sue ABC for reinstating the show.

Yet Trump has said the JK show being taken off air was nothing to do with the White House; it was about ‘bad ratings’.

Why would Trump sue ABC if it was nothing to do with him🤔

I’m sure they were honoured by his presence ronib. I’m sure they were not honoured by his behaviour. You’re right, it’s not something that has happened in the UK, our politicians all have at least have a sense of common decency. I really think you are quite wrong to defend this behaviour. I’m not speaking from a political perspective, but from one of honouring the dead at a service designed for that purpose.

Well it is trying to justify something so inappropriate. That's my opinion, hope that's ok with you.

ronib Wed 24-Sept-25 13:09:05

Trump was honouring the dead. In his own way.

foxie48 Wed 24-Sept-25 13:09:33

I'm afraid anyone who behaves disrespectfully is disrespectful, their personality might be a cause but it is never an excuse.
Actually, many of the speeches at the memorial were inappropriate for the occasion and disrespectful to Kirk's family. Miller's speech is below .

A man is murdered, cause to talk of his faith, faiths of American peoples and even faith in England
