Whatever the politics it is outrageous this young man has been shot and killed and his poor wife and little children are in my thoughts. America is a country I’ve never been to and never want to either. It seems a land of extremes.

I just don’t get your point. Are you saying that Canada is safer because it ‘only’ has a population of 40 million? Why would a rural dweller in USA need a gun more than one in Canada, other than the fact that guns are readily accessible in USA but not in Canada?

Well, murder rates are lower in rural communities than urban areas, probably because everybody knows who the nut jobs in the community are, so no.

Does it matter in the scheme of things? Over here the country is called America, not just USA. Same as we’re called Great Britain, United Kingdom etc.

Because of the likelihood of more bad guys in a much bigger area is what I’m thinking? 🤷‍♀️
Statistically more chance (much higher) of one roaming in the outback.
I’d not like to take my chances anyway out there.

Canadians don't have same gun laws as USA.

Canadians have many vast remote areas.

Canadian per capita murder rate is far lower.

Basically, USA is a dangerous place to live precisely because the right to hold a gun has been upheld for centuries. They are the masters of their own destruction in that respect.

Canadians are nicer. What can I say?

There are still millions of lovely Americans who would invite you to dinner and give you the shirt off their back vs shoot you. But I really think they are just a nicer population.

We're law abiding people. I'm pleased to live where people don't have guns for no reason. We've had Holiday homes in the USA, always wondered where a gun would shoot, even in a shop.

Yes that’s true. Be armed or be in danger from those who are. What a state of affairs.

Difference is though it's illegal to carry a knife in public in the UK, it's not illegal to carry a gun in the US.

True but being illegal isn’t stopping knife crime. It’s gotten worse and will continue.

Statistically more chance (much higher) of one roaming in the outback. I've spent time in the outback. I still don't agree, although yes, there could be fugitives on the run living amongst the community in remote areas.

The gun laws were made more stringent across the whole country after the terrible Port Arthur massacre.
