More than a 100.000, five times more than that I would say.

FriedGreenTomatoes, I totally agree with you. I think some people have been misled. It is not at all far-right to be patriotic and mostly it is the Silent Majority who are out there today.

We know Labour voters that have gone down to London so not all ‘far right’

Be honest a lot of the "supporters " go for a good kicking and a good fight.
How can you support them. !!

Oh don’t spout rubbish!

Crowd behaviour from just about any cause or reason tends to get out of hand by a few unfortunately.
There were around a hundred thousand in the Unite The Kingdom crowd.

Closer to a million

2 million @ Notting Hill Carnival.

Closer to a million

The Metropolitan Police estimate of people attending the Unite the Kingdom march last Saturday is between 100,000 and 150,000. More than expected, but nowhere a million.

'Nowhere near a million'.

Closer to a million

Mt61, I’d say closer to 200 thousand million.

Mt61 Tue 16-Sept-25 16:24:01

Theatrelover, way more than that for sure.

Wow. No wonder they were using home owners front yards as toilets

Yeah, probably nearer a billion.

The Metropolitan Police estimated that between 110,000 and 150,000 people attended the march.

Over 2 million people attended Notting Hill Carnival.
Only 600 compostable toilets were provided.

I think there was way more than that.
Watched a guy on YouTube, recording the crowd walking down the road as they were being directed. He counted 480,000 before his battery conked out. Still coming down the road 1.5 hrs later so has to be more.

If that’s the case they need to move that carnival to Hyde park. Notting Hill is way too small now. Weren’t there 500 arrests this year? I suppose not to bad out of two million.

Yeah, that brilliant, tried and tested method of estimating numbers by recording the crowd until your battery conks out, then sticking it on YouTube.

He has to be right - it has to be more than the official estimates.

If people were still coming down the road after 1.5 hrs (WOW) I’d say there were probably about a trillion there!

Oreo Wed 17-Sept-25 10:06:28

Shall we just agree it was a very big crowd? hmm

Wyllow3 Wed 17-Sept-25 10:08:57

Yes.

Yes!

You have to compare like with like.

If your figures are for the Notting Hill Carnival, with an estimated attendance of 2 million (police figures) you have to break the arrest figures into per 150,000 to make them a meaningful comparison.

I did that earlier in this thread and got a figure of about 10 arrests per 150,000 attendees. As opposed to 25 for the Unite the UK march.

Police say that 6 of their officers were seriously wounded an Saturday. How many were seriously wounded at Notting Hill?

Mollygo Wed 17-Sept-25 13:01:06

The point I was making is that there is always violence from a minority of attendees at any large gathering.
You can analyse it or compare it whichever way you want to prove your point, but unless you are able to evidence that large gatherings never attract hooliganism and violence, then my point remains the same.

vintage1950 Wed 17-Sept-25 13:12:16

There was no violence at last year's pro-environmental march, organised by Chris Packham. He made a point of thanking the police for their help. There was quite a crowd, tens of thousands, I think.

Mollygo Wed 17-Sept-25 13:36:12

Are you using that as a “never?”

There isn't always violence at large gatherings. I slept out in a huge crowd to attend Mass when Pope John Paul II came to England. The atmosphere was great, people sharing food and drink and chatting through the night.

I attended and my husband was there as a police officer. He said it was a very boring shift as they couldn't hear it see anything where he was and there was nothing to do.

So you say there is always violence at large gatherings but if we disagree we have to prove that it never happens. Bit unfair there, sometimes it happens, sometimes it doesn't.

Whitewavemark2 Wed 17-Sept-25 16:29:23

I’ve been on protest marches and there wasn’t violence on a single one.

I can list them if you wish.
