Security will have to be sky high and protests are predicted as one the most unpopular world leaders comes to visit the royal family.

Harry is lucky to be out of it, having to kow tow to a sex abusing, fraudulent, bigoted felon isn't an honour it's an embarrassment and a public humiliation.

On the contrary. It’s an example of how to put one’s personal feelings aside for duty and service.

I see you already said that, merlotgran!

Totally agree Jane112
Those sycophantic speeches 🤮🤮🤮

Have just watched the ITV 10 o'clock news and enjoyed how they took the p... out of the whole event. Brilliant! I wonder if Trump knew that Rupert Murdoch was down at the end of the very long table?

Allira Wed 17-Sept-25 22:41:30

We have to look at the bigger picture and put personal feelings aside.

MG55 Wed 17-Sept-25 22:53:30

Well done King Charles on expressing support for Ukraine at the State dinner.
Not usually a fan of his but hopefully it will remind President Trump that Russia is the agressor!

Channel 4 was even better at that, tongue in cheek, and it's got a running set of programmes tonight - get them them on catch up if you can.

The rf are used to entertaining people because it is part of their role, doesn’t mean they like them. I don’t expect the late queen was happy about entertaining Mugabi.

I have thoroughly enjoyed watching the events unfolding today with the usual flawless military precision.
I’ve loved watching it all, this evening’s banquet in particular was so interesting to see what the ladies were wearing.

I think the invitation for a second state visit for the President was a masterstroke in nurturing US/UK relations, and it seems as if he is thoroughly enjoying himself.

Windsor it appears had the pro Trump suppporters while the anti brigade were in London waving those ridiculous Trump baby balloons.
Still freedom of expression and all that…

MG55 Thu 18-Sept-25 00:03:40

There weee plenty of anti Trump protesters in Windsor. Our friends and family there are not Trump fans but understand that pragmatism is necessary in this political climate.

There * were *

Well done to the King, Queen and the Waleses for the way they hosted. That is duty to the country as, we may not think much of the POTUS but we need to keep on his right side.
Sorry, Melania, not keen on the yellow, off the shoulder, with the pink belt.

Wyllow3 Thu 18-Sept-25 00:38:46

I love the orange balloons, they capture the inflated ego perfectly.

It's Real Politik. Necessary.

I thought Melania looked very elegant

Why do royal ladies always carry handbags?
No need for anything other than a hanky and reading glasses.

The last queen always carried a marmalade sandwich in hers.
I expect they all do; sustenance for the long hike down all those palace corridors.

I do hope they don't get that daft Trump baby balloon out again.
It really was childish. The British public is surely better than that.

Unfortunately that’s how childish and stupid Sadiq Khan is. Thinks he is being clever. Odious little man

Yes quite 👏👏👏👏👏

Wyllow3 Thu 18-Sept-25 08:02:42

As a member of the British public proud to call him out:

And the film makers have been bailed.

Wyllow3 Thu 18-Sept-25 08:22:07

👍

Grandmaofone Thu 18-Sept-25 08:42:01

Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth understood and implemented
the rule of ‘respect the position if not the person’ - entertained despots, unsavoury rulers, controversial Heads of State and perceived enemies with grace and aplomb, kept her political opinions to herself, although perhaps she kept a journal.

King Charles is receiving and honouring the President of the United States of America,
not Donald Trump.

AGAA4 Thu 18-Sept-25 08:52:08

I can understand why people here can't stand Trump. I find him intolerable too but I think those inflated balloons look ridiculous and don't show us in a good way, rather childish.
Unfortunately it's in our own best interests to keep Trump on side.

Grandmaofone Thu 18-Sept-25 09:02:31

AGAA4 quite agree -

if we find ourselves in BIG trouble, who we gonna call…

why, Charles’s friend of course !

publically insulting an elected President is one thing,
however this is a insulting a guest of the King and isn’t cricket

GrannyGravy13 Thu 18-Sept-25 09:09:38

Totally agree AGAA4 and Grandmaofone

As a member of the British public proud to call him out:

How very childish. No wonder the country is in the state it is when you have people like this floating these stupid balloons. Why aren’t they at work I wonder?

woodenspoon Thu 18-Sept-25 09:15:00

The UK government says it has secured £150bn worth of US investment in Britain, coinciding with President Trump's state visit.
Tech giants Microsoft and Google as well as private equity firm Blackstone have pledged to spend billions of pounds in the UK, which the government hopes will create 7,600 jobs.

From the BBC website. THIS is why Trump is being welcomed over here.

Grandmaofone Thu 18-Sept-25 09:23:09

woodenspoon thank you for this precis

it is baffling how so many people fail to appreciate Diplomacy

even allowing for their lack of understanding of ‘how things work’ resulting in investments, protection, goodwill, for them to steadfastly undermine this enormous effort (all silver hand polished) is close to sabotage and in the long term self defeating
7,600 jobs!
keep polishing the silverware! because we are worth it!

ixion Thu 18-Sept-25 09:27:16

Casdon

From what I saw, Camilla is wearing the Belgian sapphire tiara, and The Princess is wearing Queen Mary’s lovers knot tiara, which is her favourite. I’m a tiara spotter, I’m on the look out for them wearing different ones, but sadly not this time.

Do you know this weighty tome on tiaras, Casdon?

A charity shop find for a tenner, it's glorious!
Lots of glossy pics, details and history.
