Well what an address!
I agree with every word.
We have been warned, I just hope it’s not too late.

Bellanonna Tue 23-Sept-25 21:50:22

I think there might have been an outcry in the US if Keir Starmer had spoken of the New York Mayor in the way Trump spoke about Sadiq Khan. What right did Trump have to slag him off like that and ask that he not attend the official banquet.?
It doesn’t matter what we think of Khan, Trump really overstepped the mark there. None of his business.

Babs03 Tue 23-Sept-25 21:54:36

I have come across men like Trump, usually propping up bars, mouthing off about immigrants, women, Muslims etc., to a couple of mates who will intermittently slap him on the back saying he tell it as it is. A bit of a caricature like the bigot played by Warren Mitchell in Till Death Us Do Part.
Never thought I’d see the day when a man like this would become President of the US.
Is like badly written satire.

Is like badly written satire.

It is, it's like Spitting Image all over again.

Sadly it's real.

BlueBelle Tue 23-Sept-25 22:30:42

Babs you are right I wish Trump and farage would get married and live on a desert island preferable on a far off planet
The world definitely went to hell in a handcart when it made him president

Yup the escalator broke down on the way in but he can still climb steps ….

Melania hesitated for one second then strode up the escalator.
Then her husband announced to the assembled that Melania would have fallen if 'she wasn't in great shape' ...

I wonder if the look she gave him means he'll get what for later! 🤬

Soon after Trump’s speech was covered on the BBC 6 o’clock news tonight. a family of illegal migrants was featured in their tax -payer funded hotel where, amongst other things, they were complaining that the hotel food wasn’t to their liking.

The woman was then shown in the bathroom, cooking on some sort of camping stove having first sealed off the smoke alarm in the bedroom. 😮

Donald Trump is certainly correct when he said we and Europe have no idea how to stop illegal migration,

Allira Tue 23-Sept-25 22:58:31

They also featured an asylum seeker [it was reported that he was a failed asylum seeker] who was sent by taxi to an NHS appointment 250 miles away at a cost of £600.
Even the man himself said he would have gone by train but this was not allowed by the Home Office.

The family you mentioned above have a new baby, JenniferEccles and the father said that she will be entitled to a house and benefits as she was born here.

It is frightening to think that the mother is cooking in the shower tray on a hob - with the smoke alarm covered! They said all the asylum seekers at the hotel do that because they refuse to eat the hotel food.

Some have been living like this for years.

Trump pushed nations to accept his worldview, claiming he was always correct and touting MAGA hats that read, "Trump was right about everything.”

To quote him:
"I don't say that in a braggadocios way, but it's true”

To add to his multiple unsung talents(!) he has surely invented a new word.

So like small children do though, Casdon.

He gave the UK lower tariffs than the EU WWmk2.

Are you really really?seriously agreeing there is no such thing as Climate Change, FGT?

Heck.

ronib Wed 24-Sept-25 07:27:38

Well for all of the Trump haters, how do you cope with the knowledge that the UK is very economically beholden to him? How did we get ourselves into a vassal position with him?
Trump may have an unusual style of addressing the UN but there may be some uncomfortable truths about their current purpose. Trump did ask what is the purpose of the UN? Even a broken teleprompter didn’t halt Trump’s speech.
Trump was suggesting that the UN was extending wars and not ending them - presumably because of their support for Palestine? An interesting and provocative statement which only Trump could give.

Oreo Wed 24-Sept-25 07:59:08

There is no purpose to the UN so he was right about that at least.

Well yes, but also Shakespeare and Lewis Carrol.

Bellamonna...To answer your question Mayor Khan insulted POTUS on his last state visit with the baby trump blimp...so I guess that's why he didn't want him at the banquet.

Global trade has increased the living conditions of millions of people and creates an interdependence that is governed by rules and norms. The US, as the biggest consumer and a key producer is central to this.
Trump is a disrupter who is testing every rule he can, he wasn't voted in to power by the UK but we have to deal with him. His approval rating in the US is very low, the US is giving up soft power to China and his attempts to get peace in Gaza and Ukraine are showing that he's weak when he should show strength. I just feel sad for America and fear there is much more unrest and upheaval ahead of them that will have worldwide consequences.
I don't deal in schadenfreude, I don't enjoy seeing Trump making an idiot of himself because he's been given power to hurt others. The UN has been an important world institution but it relies on countries sticking together and playing by the same rules, unfortunately Russia, China and now America are no longer playing by those rules which has weakened the UN. The world is now much less safe than it was and IMO that is nothing to celebrate.

Wrong. Khan had zero to do with the blimp.

He gave permission for it to fly when Trump was over here for a visit so he had everything to do with it.

Chocolatelovinggran Wed 24-Sept-25 08:38:37

Bellanonna, I think that no Prime Minister of the UK would consider it appropriate to speak about the Mayor of New York. It is absolutely none of their business how the Mayor of another country runs their city.
It is not Mr Trump's business , but Mr Khan upset him, and Mr Trump will not forget.
All of this activity by Mr Trump is creating lots of publicity and diverting attention from the long awaited release of the Epstein files, and significant problems with the economy of the USA, as tariffs start to bite.

You mean the GLA?

It’s called freedom of speech - which Trump of course is a strong advocate🙄

Whitewavemark2 Wed 24-Sept-25 08:54:26

Reading and listening, I think what is becoming more and more clear, is, that Trump and indeed his entourage despise Europe.

The U.K. s history and future is entirely tied up with Europe.

Malnitrition is common in the so called hotels, rickets has reappeared. Food is often inedible. A sensible idea may have been to use the skills people bring with them. They could prepare food, but of course they are not permitted.

Do you think Jennifer that the use of Hotels may infact have been a deliberate attempt to stir up the sort of hate which now stalks the land?

All these tales people tell, £600 taxis, cooking in the shower, maake the headlines because they are exceptional and shocking,. The time to worry is when no one reports them because they are normal.

It is like the stories of benefit cheats and mothers who have 20 children in order to maximise benefits and pensioners on basic pensions spending their winters in Spain. It is the exceptions that prove the rules.

Trump is a freak, an exception, on a par with that nasty little bit of sh*t who runs North Korea. A man with not a democratic fibre in his body, a petty dictator who is too much of a coward to cope with criticism.

All we can do is hunkerdown under the blankets until his time in office is up.

Wyllow3 Wed 24-Sept-25 09:13:24

I feel very unhappy that we are economically beholden to the US, but I’m realistic enough to accept that we have no alternative.

How did we get ourselves in this position? Well that’s easy to answer in one word … BREXIT!

M0nica Wed 24-Sept-25 09:21:15

What has whether you love or hate Trump got to do with whether the UK is beholden to the US? It is the US we are beholden to, not the President in any way shape or form.

If Trump turned up his toes tomorrow aand was replaced by a left wing democrat we would still be beholden to the US.
