Was this on anyone's bingo card?

Who would have thought it. If it achieves the release of the hostages and peace then it is to be welcomed.

Anniebach Mon 29-Sept-25 21:16:00

Trump with Blair and others who will be named in next few days

StripeyGran Mon 29-Sept-25 21:18:45

I don't think Gaza is anything like a game. It's desperately sad.

I was so turned off by Trump’s stream of consciousness (?) that I couldn’t take in the message if there was one.
Plus of course where does Hamas stand on this proposal?

After returning the hostages Hamas will have an amnesty to get out of Gaza.
If this can be agreed will be amazing.

I find it hard to imagine a harder role than being on the ‘Board of Peace’, so my hat goes off to anybody who is involved.

Sarnia Mon 29-Sept-25 22:09:13

The Board of Peace will be chaired by Trump and will include Tony Blair. This wouldn't be the Tony Blair who dragged his country into an illegal war would it?

AGAA4 Mon 29-Sept-25 22:15:21

It all depends on Hamas now. Trump has said if they don't agree then Netanyahu has US approval to finish them off.
That would mean more fighting in Gaza so no help for the Palestinians.
I hope Hamas will agree and this brutal killing can be over.

friendlygingercat Mon 29-Sept-25 22:23:18

Yes this would be the same Tony Blair the warmonger. He has a first class degree in self aggrandisement and is well qualified for the role.

ronib Mon 29-Sept-25 22:24:21

Why should Hamas sitting in Doha agree? I hope they do but I doubt it.

Jaxjacky Mon 29-Sept-25 22:24:27

Trump still after his Nobel then, ironic if Blair harbours the same ambition.

Sarnia I’d volunteer if I were you, as perhaps you think you have the experience of the politics of the Middle East that would enable you to do a better job than the hand picked members of the Board?

My attempt at sarcasm fell a bit flat but it is getting late.
I wonder what the families of servicemen and women who lost their lives in that illegal war feel when they hear his name in the same sentence as the word peace.

Mt61 Mon 29-Sept-25 23:32:10

Oh I wonder where they will turn up, if turfed out 🤔

I'm afraid the picture in The Guardian of Trump with a smirking Nettanyahoo does not bode well for the battered inhabitants of Gaza.

The caption should read "Palestinians About to be Shafted by Coalition of Madman and Murderer"

Whitewavemark2 Tue 30-Sept-25 02:53:00

This has been on the cards for many months now. Blair has been active both in the Middle East with the Arab nations and Washington, beginning to get the basics together for an interim government.

You will find fewer people more knowledgable about the Middle East so if this can be pulled off then - bloody brilliant. Of course Blair and the USA were involved in the GFA with almost impossible odds. So all power to them I say if it saves a single child’s life or ends such dreadful suffering.
Frankly I couldn’t give a damn about Blair’s past in this, I wish him every success with all my might.

Peace for the people of Israel and Gaza -

Anniebach Tue 30-Sept-25 09:22:59

Blair was Middle East envoy from 2007 - 2015

I agree.

Nothing about rebuilding a very broken country, both physically and emotionally, no word of immediate aid!

Does anyone actually believe any of the hostages are still alive?

love0c Tue 30-Sept-25 09:29:15

I have very grave doubts about it all. I can not see Hamas agreeing or if they do, keep to the agreement.

Just quoting this again as I agree with every word. There will be no better way to get the hostages out alive, it’s a last chance for them and for hamas to get out of there and a safety measure for anyone in Gaza City.It could bring things to an end straight away, and Tony Blair is a very good choice.

ronib Tue 30-Sept-25 09:30:28

It is possible that Hamas won’t accept the conditions on offer therefore giving Netanyahu the green light to demolish remaining tunnels and other Hamas areas. I guess the post war administration will then kick in as set out yesterday. The sooner it ends, the better but will it be a lasting peace?

This could well be true, being that they’re not normal people but if surrounding countries tell them to give up then there’s a chance at least that they will.

OldFrill Tue 30-Sept-25 09:33:40

I think it's been scripted so Hamas won't agree, giving Netanyahu American support to continue. I sincerely hope I'm wrong.

Oreo Tue 30-Sept-25 09:37:07

He already has American support.
