Thoughts with all those affected. Quietly attending their place of worship for prayer and reflection on this, the holiest day in the calendar for the Jewish community.

Despicable and disgusting.

It is being reported that the organisers of pro-palestine demonstrations have ignored the requests of police chiefs and the Prime Minister to call of the scheduled events in London and Manchester.

Keir Starmer has urged groups to "respect the grief of British Jews".

Clearly the organisers and participants have no respect whatsoever. (And absolutely nothing will convince me otherwise)

Says it all really.

Just what I said upthread, but according to Whitewavemark2 is unbalanced and hysterical.
I knew they would go ahead today with demonstrations but just hope that any decent minded ones will stay at home.I have little confidence in that unfortunately.

Why on earth do people think they can speak to others that.
That was an appalling post whitewave.

Agree

Thank you Anniebach and Galaxy and GG13

In fact, the thinking has even crept on to GN because posts criticising Netanyahu and the Israeli government are seen by some as antisemitic.

Is that a veiled criticism?
I do recognise the difference sunami

I also recognise the difference between cause and effect.

GrannyGravy13 Sat 04-Oct-25 10:17:34

ferry23 I am not in the least bit surprised.

No respect for the Government

No respect for the Police

No respect for the grieving Jewish community…

What has Islamophobia to do with an attack on a Synagogue and murder of Jews ?

Whitewavemark2 wow…

With your good memory Oreo, (being serious, not provocative), do you remember a suggestion I made a few Gaza threads ago? About starting a positive thread to address 'anti-semitism'? But nobody took it up, and not being Jewish, I don't feel qualified to lead it.
Could this be the time?

Oreo 👍🏻

Especially on a thread about murders and serious injuries of Jews at a synagogue.

Oreo Sat 04-Oct-25 10:02:02

Especially right now antisemitism

Maremia Sat 04-Oct-25 09:56:54

Well I'm glad Oreo that those posts were deleted.
There is no place on any of our threads for 'anti-semitism', 'anti Islamic' or any other other sort of bigotry, racism, or prejudice.

GrannyGravy13 Sat 04-Oct-25 09:54:59

Maremia there have been posts on GN which were antisemitic, which were deleted.

Others which were cleverly veiled remained.

Galaxy Sat 04-Oct-25 09:54:05

GG I know exactly what you mean, and I am so sorry your friends feel like that, but it is also important to say I am not Jewish, don't have Jewish friends and I feel absolutely sick as to what has happened. I won't be the only one, in fact I would predict we are the majority.

Maremia Sat 04-Oct-25 09:52:18

Much more policing is needed now since the 'P........Action' group has been proscribed for being dangerous in a way that has been alluded to but never explained fully. A political decision.
The war in Gaza has been going on for about two years, so that would explain the duration of the protests.
Should we just ignore what is going on there?

Galaxy Sat 04-Oct-25 09:51:25

They absolutely were there.

GrannyGravy13 Sat 04-Oct-25 09:51:22

Unless you are Jewish or have close friends who are Jewish I think it’s difficult to fully understand how they are currently feeling in the UK.

I am abroad with my Jewish friends and they are dreading returning to the UK next month. Their GC have lost the little teenage freedoms they had.

It is not right to have to alter their way of life in the UK in 2025 due to rising antisemitism!

No, can't remember reading any 'anti-semitic' comments Oreo. I would report them myself.
Plenty of 'anti Netanyahu comments', which I make myself.
But that is not the same thing, is it?

Just because you can’t remember them doesn’t mean they weren’t there.GN deleted some for that same reason.
Nothing to do with anti BN comments, they wouldn’t be deleted as why would they.

The protest marches have been politicised by the government, and that is why extra police attention is needed.
Too much attention is being given to quiet, old people holding 'forbidden' words, when it would be better used to pick up the folk who you claim are shouting vile slogans at these marches. They are the ones spreading hatred.
Yes, THEY should be arrested.

There was almost two years of these same marches before the silly older people started holding up their placards in support of an illegal group.

Actually I do think it's possible to "generate" antisemitism, just as it's possible to generate Islamophobia, racism generally and all the other types of "othering" and stereotyping that occur, especially on social media. There's a reason that control of the media has always been used by authoritarian leaders to influence citizens. It's because it works!
Surely the marches in support of Palestine are only "provocative" to those who don't believe that the Palestinians should have a state of their own, despite this having been promised to them by the British government in 1917 as part of the Balfour Declaration?

It’s naive to think that.
The marches are provocative as there is real hatred of Jews, any Jews anywhere not just those who live in Israel amongst many who attend them. Not all but many.
