Maccabi Tel Aviv football club banned

Aston Villa have banned the fans from Tel Aviv from attending the game. They say that after the violence in Amsterdam when the Jewish club was there that they don't feel they can provide the level of security needed to keep fans and nearby residents safe.
There have been clashes in Norway and Italy when Israel compete.
Aston Villa say it is not antisemitism but just being safety conscious.
Maybe another way could have been found without the ban?

But they must not be criticised Stripey.

So, because some football fans may be badly behaved, all should be banned?

Anyway, you and SG seem to be unaware the the reason given was that the Police cannot guarantee the safety of the fans from Tel Aviv so, apparently, it is nothing to do with their behaviour but all to do with the behaviour of people in the UK.

Maremia Fri 17-Oct-25 21:05:05

Is it 'shameful' for the Police to attempt to protect the local people from a group of foreign upporters who have shown by their own actions that they are not the best behaved.
Has anyone actually asked the people who lived local to the venue how they feel about the forthcoming match?

Maremia Fri 17-Oct-25 21:08:11

Well then, the best plan, to keep them safe, has been suggested upthread.
No-one gets hurt.
Not the visitors,
or the local people
or the home team,
or the Police.
Result.

The people living close to Villa’s ground have thousands of supporters every other week in their neighbourhood.

The neighbourhood is predominantly Asian (apparently)

Have they objected to any other teams supporters?

StripeyGran Fri 17-Oct-25 21:19:18

Perhaps somebody a lot higher up tham some Grans had intel.

Galaxy Fri 17-Oct-25 21:27:53

Well as the PM, the police commissioner, and UEFA have all said not the right decision I am not sure how high up you want to go.

Maremia Fri 17-Oct-25 21:31:55

Good to know that the folk living locally are happy with the match to go ahead.

Maremia Fri 17-Oct-25 21:39:29

Yes, I take your point Allira. The only folk that the Police are concerned about in this case are folk who live in the UK.
I still hold to my point that 'particular' fans of the Maccabe club are not saints.
Good that the Police do not see that their behaviour on other trips abroad, indicates trouble in store here.
The Police know what they can cope with.

It's from your own post Rosie, that only one group can reveal who they are.

Eh? Where have I said that only one group can reveal who they are?

Let's just play all football matches without any fans attending, shall we?

Sorted.

Or just ban football altogether.
Even more sorted.

🤔

Pretending that this is like any other footie march with some badly behaved supporters and therefore it should go ahead as per any other match with "some difficulties that can be managed by our police" is naive and misleading.

It's THE major conflict currently in the world, with feelings probably running higher than any other situation than I can think of at the moment. It's inevitable that people not concerned with the footie at all will possibly turn up as feelings run so very very high.

I think either a match in camera, or an agreement that the visiting fans will be escorted at all points and heavy policing to protect them whilst this happens is the only possible way forward.

Then shame on the world.

Sudan has been described as facing the world's worst humanitarian crisis; nearly 25 million people are experiencing extreme hunger.

It’s on the outskirts of the city centre so I don’t think it’s a heavily populated part of Birmingham ( but must admit that I haven’t been back there for a while).

Of course, but its not playing out right now in the UK, with a specific issue,

which is what the thread and 8 pages of different POV's is about

Not quite sure what you are trying to say Rosie in relationship to the discussion as no one is going to disagree with what you have said as regards terrible world situations.

I'm sad that you and others assign the Gaza/Israel conflict as the most important conflict in the world when the situation in Sudan is of such a huge humanitarian need which, dare I say, dwarfs Israel/Gaza by some magnitude. Would that be because possibly the Israel/Gaza conflict may impact the western world whereas the Sudan situation does not? As far as I'm aware there is no current thread on the beyond awful situation in Sudan. Perhaps you can direct me to where concern is being expressed?

Just another day in the rise of anti Semitism. It has always been there but it is becoming more obvious now. Haters gotta hate someone.

Wyllow3 Sat 18-Oct-25 06:55:34

Oh really, Rosie. I don't respond to "oh look at the Squirrel" posts.

Maremia Sat 18-Oct-25 07:40:20

It's Saturday morning. Back in the day we heard the football results while Dad filled in his pools coupon
Exotic names like Queen of the South, something Orient
So here's a football quiz, for those who wish.

Which, if any, of these statements are true?
'Football fans who chant, 'Death to J....' are racist scum'
'Football fans who chant, 'Death to A.... are racist scum.'

Both statements, neither statement only one of these statements?

Cadenza123 Sat 18-Oct-25 07:57:57

www.facebook.com/share/v/16LDiFLGwR/ I know nothing about football but this report from Channel 4 seems balanced. There are real risks here for public safety. The police need to be able to do their job without political interference.

StripeyGran Sat 18-Oct-25 08:16:52

Maremia, I remember the football results, Saturday about 5 pm , I think?
Queen of the Hearts
Forfar 4
Sheffield Wednesday
Crystal Palace

Anyway back to the hate and the sniping.

Football should be a welcoming place for everyone. There's so much going on behind the scenes from players and clubs to further a good clean image, but in this case it's a lose lose situation all round. No one can win.

Maremia Sat 18-Oct-25 09:00:23

Thanks Cadenza. Hope all on this Thread have a quick look.

Two people have died and hundreds have been arrested across France after Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) fans celebrated the club's victory in the Champions League final, according to the French interior ministry

June 2025. Utter chaos , hundreds injured. Police injured. Carnage. Will PSG fans be banned from the UK? I doubt it.

It's shocking that there are people who believe this ban to be right and proper.

It is appalling. What next? Where will Jews be banned from next?

Shame on anyone who thinks that this is in any way acceptable

This sort of rhetoric is unforgiveable How would any of you cope with your grandchildren coming home with spittle on their blazers, chewing gum in their hair? Bruises and skinned knees from being pushed over.

This is how it starts and the more and more hatred is aimed towards the Jewish the worse it gets.
