On this thread in particular, there are those who want to be almost aggressive to those that don't hold their views. It's a discussion thread, people have differing views.

CariadAgain

That's now raised my curiosity as to what went on in the "green trouser suit thread". Think it must have been before I started reading this forum.

Anyone got a link to it?

Guessing it was a serious discussion and somebody brought in a (totally irrelevant) green trouser suit and others started talking about trouser suits to derail the thread?

Anyone got a link to it?
It's gone to the charity shop CariadAgain.

(Sorry, I'll get my knuckles rapped for a poor attempt at levity.)

Ah right - I see.....and, for the record, I thought the suit looked awful too. Way too big trousers basically.

The difference is that escaped's posts weren't personal attacks on other posters, they annoyed you because of their frivolity about what you perceived as a serious subject (although it wasn't really serious in the view of most posters).

Yours on this thread are personal attacks on another poster.
Therein lies the difference.

I prefer to be open about what (or whom) I am criticising, than to make oblique references that I know will be recognised by the person I am digging at, but can then be denied. Both are personal, but talking directly to one person is more honest, IMO.

And I was asking about the difference between you commenting on my post (rather than walking away as you suggest I should do), and my doing the same, not on the content of anyone's posts.

This is what happens when people express opinions that Some People don't like, though - it can result in cross-questioning and accusations by their friends. It is why a head of steam often builds up and posters come on to say it takes courage to post, and many don't understand what they mean (and others claim not to). Being upfront and saying 'this is what I am talking about' removes that rather unsettling atmosphere where nobody is very sure if they are being discussed or not, and people can hide behind 'I wasn't being personal'.

All the same, I felt the need to speak out earlier, but I don't want to collude in making a bad situation worse, so I will leave it there.

|I could say the same to you grin. We all pick and choose what annoys us enough to reply to and what to skip past. You chose to reply to my post, just as I chose to reply to escaped's. What's the difference?

The difference is that the other posters are polite.Your comments on this thread are anything but.
And no, emojis don’t improve it.

You created the situation and now wish to retreat.
Other posters may comment if they wish.

I shan't be reporting any of your posts but they are personal attacks and not in the spirit of Gransnet.

I'm actually very surprised at you.

Be as disruptive as we like of repugnant views.
There is a difference between aggression towards a person and aggression towards their point of view.

You comment "people have different views"

And----?

Of course other posters can comment - it was very obvious who would do so. I don't 'wish to retreat', and I did not start it. The comment about being silenced and having a yellow card started it. That comment has been made several times before.

I could have stayed silent and let the dig pass, but I decided that I also have a right to express an opinion. Maybe you disagree, but it's ok - I won't report your posts which I see as personal attacks not in the spirit of GN.

Blimey, the thread title is a self fulfilling prophecy…

Of course you have a right to express an opinion.

Unfortunately , as I see it, not only Grans but also the admin disallow certain opinions. Those opinions may be deemed racist or whatever.

Donald Trump himself should be welcome to write his opinions on Gnet . And Grans should be encouraged to be as aggressive as they like towards Trump's opinions.
