I hate to see priceless jewellery stolen, because the unscrupulous can have it remodelled and sell it on, unlike most other artefacts it can be permanently lost to the nation.
24 hours on, nothing. Don't they say it gets more difficult to catch anyone as time goes by?
I've scanned the French papers this morning and they seem rather embarrassed! They appear to be talking in depth about anything other than the heist, because there's nothing to go on!
One can't help thinking that if this had been in London, our police would be putting out public appeals and showing more film of the robbers getting away?
I have to say, those pieces are very beautiful. But not really the stuff you'd wear down the street or in Sainsburys Carrefour.
Oh I don’t know, I always wear my pearls and tiara when roaming around Bon Marche.🤔Doesn’t everyone?
Did you see the picture of the burly robber sawing open the cabinet? He's hardly what I'd call a nifty, agile cat burglar! Looks like he'd had quite a few croissants for breakfast!

How did they get that ladder? Did they just hire it? If so maybe they can be traced - though of course not likely to give real name and address I suppose.......! Quite hard to steal a ladder like that
Someone I was chatting to this afternoon said she thought the ladder was there. She thought it must be an inside job, or at least with help from inside The Louvre.
I so hope they catch them before the pieces are destroyed and remodelled. Imagine how unfunny it would be if the Crown Jewels were stolen, and all that history wiped out.
I confess to laughing out loud when listening to the news yesterday, I particularly enjoyed the classic calm bbc voice referring to it as a Heist
There’s a cracking film to be made
I also confess to laughing out loud. You know because the French think of themselves as such a wonderful and perfect people. And obviously still hate the English.
I think my niece defunct local H. Samuel probably had better security features than this museum. They seem to at least of had a burglar alarm which went off now and then.
I hope the Yeoman of the Guard are in still top form in guarding the Crown Jewels .
Of course, it's more than just a robbery of some jewellery. It's a robbery of the history of France and all that that means.
It's very difficult for these places that house such precious items. The answer is probably more security staff, more alarm systems, etc. But all that comes at a cost, and France, like all other countries, is in huge financial difficulty. Where will the money come from?
Whenever I read 'the French hate the English' I do wonder how many French people you actually know.
I've lived here a long time and never met anyone who openly is hostile to me or my nationality far from it they are happy to know more of me and readily share any holiday they have had in England
If knowledge of the French comes from the Daily Mail then it should be taken with a pinch of salt, reality it is not.
