Some posters are determined that our national flags are symbols of hate.
That is their interpretation. Others may disagree.
That';s precisely why it's divisive!!!!!!
QED
I was pretty much with growstuff until this point.
I have[not just this thread] been pondering "divisive" stuff.
Something can or cannot be done [and I am trying to formulate things in my head so I say properly what I mean]
on the basis of "well some poeple disagree with somethingand therefore it is divisive, so can or cannot be done because of that.
That is not a reason at all, or certainly not a good enough one.
Whatever it is, should or should not be done on it's own merit.
I don't think I actually wrote that flags shouldn't be flown, despite the fact that I find them a creepy in the wrong context. I'm not personally being threatened by them, so I would just shrug my shoulders and get on with my business.
The point I was making is that they are divisive and the points people are raising prove that.
Flying flags in public places in a context which gives out a jingoistic message is guaranteed to be divisive. The original purpose of flags was to identify a particular side in a battle and they just emphasise divisions in society when used as one side's "standard".
