Concerned Citizens Urge Migrants to Jump from Hotel Windows

On Halloween, “concerned citizens” in Altrincham, Greater Manchester, shot fireworks at a hotel housing asylum seekers and encouraged residents to commit suicide during a protest. Flanked by Britain First posters, anti-migrant protesters spouted Islamophobic hate and abuse at police officers outside the Cresta Court Hotel.

There you go, in the name of God what have we become?

Guess what, I just googled 'fireworks attacks in migrant hotels'.
Did anything appear?
Sadly, it did.

Yep, this is what comes up when you Google Firework attack on migrant Hotel, as posted by myself and others up thread 🤷‍♀️

I'm finding this quite weird.

I consulted the Windows 11 AI assistant. It couldn't find any references to the incident in the national press, the local press or in local police reports.

I gave it the part of eazybee's post which said it was in the Telegraph. AI said that that related to a different incident in Dublin, though it could access the 'updates' which apparently had pictures

I asked if it could search social media and it said it couldn't.

The only reference we have to the incident apart from the woman on X is the Hope Not Hate article.

I am very loth to believe that HnH made up the whole story but I wonder if the writer who claims to have observed the incident took any photos which could be verified by the date stamp.

Conversely, as growstuff said, I can't see the woman on X making it up either, though the absence of photographic evidence doesn't help.

If this incident is verifiable as has been reported I am astounded that it hasn't made any news outlet at all, it was, if true, utterly disgusting.

So, I'm thinking either massive national cover up (conspiracy theory route) or the incident wasn't as bad as depicted.

OTOH, I might try another version of AI...

Maizie If it was just any woman, I probably wouldn't have given it much thought, but this woman is the co-leader of Britain First, who have been orchestrating the meetings outside the Cresta Hotel in Altrincham. It doesn't make sense for her to have faked it - she was boasting about it while going to great pains to emphasise that she wan't actually there. There was a video with her post, but I don't know how to save videos and I think it's been taken down now. There might be some other copies of it.

growstuff Tue 11-Nov-25 15:31:03

PS. My previous post described what I saw in the video. There was a rocket launcher and a number of rockets were launched. Most of them exploded and fell to the ground, burning a few patches of grass. Others were fired towards the hotel and exploded, but one seemed to fall on the roof. People inside the hotel were looking out of windows and there was shouting directed at them. Nobody was hurt and there was no damage to property, which I think was why it didn't make the news. Much worse happens almost every weekend at various protests.

Yes, Dublin as I posted earlier.

But the hotel in the OP is in Altrincham. It's called the Cresta and there have been regular protests outside it for months. This specific incident with the fireworks happened on 31 October.

Allira Tue 11-Nov-25 15:36:38

I'm astonished that someone hasn't been arrested as inciting someone to commit suicide is a criminal offence under Section 2(1) of the Suicide Act 1961, as amended by the Coroners and Justice Act 2009.
It carries a sentence of up to 14 years imprisonment.

If that woman is posting on social media then the police will know as I am sure they track people like that.
I'll await some news.

Allira Tue 11-Nov-25 15:37:24

This specific incident with the fireworks happened on 31 October.
Allegedly.

Allira Tue 11-Nov-25 15:38:57

Another reason why the sale of fireworks to the general public should be banned and only organised displays allowed.

Lathyrus3 Tue 11-Nov-25 15:50:15

Well now. A member of the public can contact the police force involved (allegedly) and request confirmation that that this incident occurred and that the police were involved.

That would give us the truth wouldn’t it.

Perhaps those who are very concerned about the alleged incident would like to do that.

And then I will apologise heartily for thinking it might be fake news.

Allira Tue 11-Nov-25 16:10:10

Every year there are injuries caused by fireworks and again they have been reported this year with sonpme children being hospitalised. Many years ago, when I was a child, I knew a girl who had been blinded in one eye when someone threw a firework at her.
Yet they are still readily available - you can just pick them up with your weekly grocery shop!

Maremia Tue 11-Nov-25 16:46:12

Absolutely agree with you Allira. Should be banned, or at least curtailed.
There were 300 incidents in Manchester alone, i.e. fireworks incidents.
The specific migrant hotel attack that google gave me was in Drogheda, Northern Ireland.
Now this could be how the originally mentioned incident was overlooked.
The attack in Drogheda was classified simply as a 'firework' event.
Then footage emerged of someone wirh a can of petrol, and the incident was re-classifued.
With 300 'fireworks' incidents in Manchester, perhaps the 'original' one is among them.
The Services must have had to deal with so much.

Is the video still available to view on X, growstuff?

If it is, can you do a link to it? There should be a way to verify the date it was filmed, I think. (People were verifying a lot of videos on X at the begining of the Ukraine invasion by Russia I recall.)

GrannyGravy13 Tue 11-Nov-25 17:11:07

MaizieD I have looked in Ashlea Simon’s X account, she credits a Louise Holbrooks (@loulou81079) for organising protests to close the Cresta Hotel, Altrincham.

Couldn’t see any videos as described by the OP, but I could have missed them 🤷‍♀️

Thanks, GG13.

I know people think that this is a bit of a fuss to make over an incident apparently so trivial that the press weren't interested at all and the police were apparently not involved. But it feels as if there is a piece of the jigsaw missing.

I agree that there appears to be something missing.

Lathyrus3 Tue 11-Nov-25 18:05:43

Looked backed at the OP and it definitely says that police were involved and had abuse hurled at them.

So there will be a record of police involvement.
Not trivial at all if it was so violent it required police involvement force to maintain safety.

The account seems to be morphing somewhat from the original 🤔

The fact that some of us are googling, and finding a variety of examples, is concerning.

Sometimes people like to boast about things that haven’t actually happened.

eazybee Tue 11-Nov-25 18:30:24

The story originated from Hope not Hate, a charitable organisation dedicated to fighting what they perceive as right-wing influences, and was reported in the Manchester Evening News. The incident took place at Halloween, no specific date given.

"Hope Not Hate holds progressive left editorial and advocacy biases while consistently publishing fact-based information."
Failed Fact Checks:"None in the Last 5 years. They are referenced by fact-checkers for information on the Far-Right and Hate information."
"Overall, we rate HOPE Not Hate as Left Biased for its critical stance on far-right politics and high for factual reporting due to its use of credible sources, detailed data analysis and clean fact-check record. (M.Huitsing 12/28/2023) & Politico Europe

MaizieD Tue 11-Nov-25 19:06:31

Chatgpt can't find anything apart from Hope Not Hate and Gransnet. It said that police reported a number of firework related incidents around that time, but no specifics.

I suspect that a fact checking site might not do any better.

Eloethan Tue 11-Nov-25 21:01:43

They are cruel and wicked people who have nothing to offer this country or the world but their hatred.
