Concerned Citizens Urge Migrants to Jump from Hotel Windows
(147 Posts)On Halloween, “concerned citizens” in Altrincham, Greater Manchester, shot fireworks at a hotel housing asylum seekers and encouraged residents to commit suicide during a protest. Flanked by Britain First posters, anti-migrant protesters spouted Islamophobic hate and abuse at police officers outside the Cresta Court Hotel.
There you go, in the name of God what have we become?
There is a whole underworld many of us know nothing about.
I could recount and have recounted my experiences of supporting people seeking asylum. I could also recount the deeply offensive things I've heard out and about re the Cresta Court.
Let's face it, it's a total waste of time.
StripeyGran you could, but last time I posted of something I knew and had experience of I was told by growstuff it was anecdotal and therefore irrelevant…
This is becoming silly and unpleasant now so I'll take a break.
Some weeks ago I posted a link to an article in The Guardian about children (housed in hotels) being denied education.
I just can't be bothered any more.
But this isn’t anecdotal, far right activists have been boasting about it online, they could be lying but I doubt it, they like to cover themselves in glory about stuff like this.
As has been said if the police just dispersed the crowds and made no arrests it is likely this story would not be deemed noteworthy,
tbh I imagine there are unpublicised attacks like this happening elsewhere, indeed it would seem too fantastical for that not to be the case.
Whether people believe it or not is entirely up to them. Based upon my own experiences of racism shown towards members of my family and friends, which would be anecdotal, do I believe it?
Absolutely.

Keep on keeping on, we need more people highlighting injustices in society, not more banging the drum of intolerance.
But then Babs why do people dismiss accounts of harassment by immigrants or people of other cultures as “purely anecdotal” or even, as happened with one of my posts, untrue.
If you want your anecdotes to be accepted as real should others be dismissed because they don’t say what you want?
There is truth and fiction on both sides. But dismissing or even rubbishing people and their experiences will not bring anyone to a closer understanding.
Babs03 I do not follow any far right organisations on social media, unless you count the Conservative Party (I also follow Labour, LibDems and Greens)
If the chants were as posted, I would have thought an arrest and caution would have taken place under the new laws (incitement)
Firing fireworks at anyone or any building deliberately is also against the law.
I am in no way condoning the actions if they were as posted in the OP.

Totally agree, goes for all sides of the discussion.
@Lathyrus I believe immigrants can harass people, rape women, or commit murder, am afraid in any cohort of people large enough - especially men I hate to say - these things can occur. In the Southern states of America, before the civil rights movement or probs even afterwards, there was a racist trope about black men being over sexed and prone to rape and harass white women, did some black men do this? Probably. Did all black men do this? Absolutely not.
It is this racist trope encouraged by any immigrant crime making the headlines despite similar crimes regularly committed by white men, that I seek to discourage.
The fact that these crimes can happen I have never denied.
I can’t find anything about this incident by trawling online.
Maybe it never happened in the first place. That’s the trouble with believing everything on SM where untrue incidents abound.
But this is the dismissal that I mean Babs, there in your post.
People, women and young girls mostly, speaking of harassment and and fear and of having their lives curtailed because of that harassment and other people, including yourself I’m afraid, dismissing it a “a racist trope”.
In other words, untrue.
The OP asked what have we come to. I remember back in the sixties also when women were afraid to report sexual crimes because they were told they must have deserved it and would be blamed themselves.
Now women, amongst themselves, are speaking of harassment but do not report it because they will be called racist and blamed for intolerance.
They become cast as the troublemakers not the men who abused them.
If people really want a harmonious society we must listen to everyone’s experiences.

Well said 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Hope this helps.
Yes, Ashlea Simon does exist, and yes, I hadn't heard of her either, before this Thread.
Just google her name. Lots of detail about Britain first.
No, doesn’t help really does it? Anyone can say anything on SM and maybe she thought this account would boost her street cred.
Just googled, 'encouraging migrants to jump from hotel'
There are posts from a source known as iPaper, but they are not free to view.
So, something is happening. but it is not, at the moment, easy to establish.
Something to keep an eye out for.
Is google SM?
Don't think so.
So, for those who weren't sure that Ashlea Simon exists, she does. Lots of information about her.

I never dismissed rapes of women as a racist trope. As I stated quite clearly I do not in any way deny these crimes happen.
Am offended that you would say this because I by no means would say anything to discourage women to come forwards with rape allegations.
A horrible thing to accuse anyone of but hey ho it is what it is.

I wouldnt bother with Guardian articles either.
Why not, Teazel.? They are usually well written .
I didn’t say rape Babs. I said harassment. Something that women say that have to deal with daily and mostly don’t report.
I’m afraid that I view your reply, completely altering what I posted, as another of the tactics used to obscure the ongoing, what some might call low level, harassment.
By changing the narrative to rape you move it something occurring relatively infrequently that can be attributed to a small minority and away from what is happening on a much much greater level.
It also enables you to say I would never condone this whilst turning, as growstuff accused others, a blind eye to what I spoke of, which is a growing problem for many.

Too left wing for me, even if well written, richard littlejohn is an excellent writer too, and can put how
I feel about most issues in a much more erudite way than I can.. as can Tom Utley.

I'll await verification.
Verification from whom?
eazybee has posted twice that it was in the Telegraph. Is that verification?
(though my search didn’t come up with the Telegraph story)
Neither did mine.
I can't turn a blind eye to something I haven't seen because it was not reported in the news media, growstuff. 😁

So that was something reported in a newspaper which could have been verified.
This is how unrest is stirred up, because rumours are spread on Facebook and the like.
Often the truth turns out to be something entirely different.
