New asylum rules

^Under the plans, asylum seekers will be returned home if their country is deemed safe, most will have to wait 20 years to apply to settle permanently, with deportations sped up when claims are rejected.
I’d like to know,
Who decides when and if a country is safe?
What do you think.

Casdon I wasn't reporting your post but one of those dubious ones from a spammer which appeared on several threads. GNHQ has deleted them very swiftly, thank you.

Casdon I don’t know whether KB would have anything to bring to the table, but I think the offer of working with is good.

Your translation of KB’s name fits in well with Shabana Madmood. 🤗🤗

I'm shaken to the core that these measures are being proposed by a Labour government.

Seems to me that the issue has been blown out of proportion by Farage purely as a weapon to attack and destabilise the Labour Party, and Starmer is falling for it. I'm disappointed in him.

Me too.
But sadly, as with the US, carrying out witch hunts on certain groups perceived as ‘the enemy’, are becoming a way to win votes.
A piece in The Times led with an article about migration figures being over egged in comparison with those leaving the UK every year. Couldn’t access it due to hitting a paywall.

She was definitely in one yesterday, so that is probably an apt nickname for her.

I wish there was more working together rather than the current adversarial approach.

I do too.
I also wish that governments didn’t have such short termist policies which they know will play well to the crowd and so win votes despite these policies being ill thought out.

Previous post: "66% of refugees are claiming Universal Credit??

I guess that's not entirely surprising due to not being able to work whilst they wait for their claims to be considered. Overall only 1.5% of claims are from those with refugee status. 76.4% of the overall UC claims were from the White ethnic group ( White British percentage of population in 2021 census = 74.4%)”.

GOV.UK UC statistics- "there were 7.9 million people on Universal Credit in June 2025, up from 6.8 million people on Universal Credit in June 2024

Of people on Universal Credit in June 2025, 76.4% were from the white ethnic group. The Asian/Asian British ethnicity group accounts for 10.3%. The Black/African/Caribbean/Black British ethnicity group accounts for 6.0%. The Mixed/Multiple Ethnic groups accounts for 2.9%, while the Other ethnic group accounts for 4.4%

The proportion of people in the ‘no work requirements’ conditionality regime (42%) continues to increase

In June 2025, 83.6% of people on UC belonged to the immigration status group “CTA – UK, Ireland, Right of Abode”

In June 2025, 9.7% of people on UC were in the “EU Settlement Scheme” group. 2.7% of people on UC were in the “Indefinite Leave to Remain (not EU Settlement Scheme)” group. 1.5% of people on UC were in the “Refugee” group. 1.0% of people on UC were in the “Limited Leave to Remain (not EU Settlement Scheme) including family reunion” group. 0.7% of people on UC were in the “Humanitarian” group. 0.4% of people on UC were in the “Other” group

There were, on average, 52,000 claims and 44,000 starts per week in May 2025, slightly lower than at the same point in May 2024

There were 6.4 million households on Universal Credit in March 2025, of which 5.9 million (92%) had a Universal Credit payment

Universal Credit households with children accounted for half (50%) of all households with a payment in March 2025".

I wish there was more working together rather than the current adversarial approach.

I wish people weren't insular and scared and easily manipulated.
I wish we had independent journalism reporting on the reality.

Aveline Tue 18-Nov-25 17:49:22

But whose reality?

StripeyGran Tue 18-Nov-25 18:18:21

Over and over again I have shared what I have seen with my own eyes. Re the discussion of fireworks at the Cresta Court, I contacted the Police as suggested and Hope not Hate.

Neither has replied as yet.

So that's my reality.

As you wish.

Kandinsky

I admire her for trying to tackle this problem, but too many snowflakes in this country who’ll try and stop her at every turn.
Happens all the time.

I am no snowflake, bit I think taking peoples personal possessions is not right.
Some of their possesions eg a piece of jewelery may be the only link to their country and this should not be taken from them. That's just common decency.

I agree. They could at least TRY working together. Wouldn’t that be a refreshing change?

As for Casdon making up silly names - that is totally juvenile and one would think she would know better.

What? Like the silly names you enjoy using?

I never do that! If you can’t provide evidence of that claim then you should apologise.

Were you outside Cresta Court when the fireworks were set off, StripeyGran? Did you take photographs because there seems to be little evidence of what happened.
Perhaps the police might be interested if you had taken photos.

Deflect all you like but we were talking about using silly names instead of real names.

Angela Rayner did have a ghastly trouser suit but I used her correct name not some childish made up name.

I repeat, I do not do that nor have I ever done!

I’ll wait for the apology. 🙂

Is that as close to an apology as you can manage? 🤔

I can never understand why people find it so hard to say “sorry”.
