New asylum rules

^Under the plans, asylum seekers will be returned home if their country is deemed safe, most will have to wait 20 years to apply to settle permanently, with deportations sped up when claims are rejected.
I’d like to know,
Who decides when and if a country is safe?
What do you think.

StripeyGran can’t say anything right now. Just as Growstuff can’t anymore. Seems that somebody has a hit list.
Makes me wonder why I even bother with this site anymore.
Cancelling people out is horrible.

Casdon Tue 18-Nov-25 21:25:04

To say sorry, you have to be sorry Primrose53, and as I consider the cruel words you used about Angela Rayner far more serious a misdemeanour than calling Kemi Badenoch Badenough I will not apologise.

Well it certainly isn’t me! Maybe the mods are watching closely. But I swear on my husband’s life I have not reported either people.

Yes I agree with that Casdon and I know you don’t feel sorry.

Dragging up the AR thread from a year ago does you no favours because, as you well know, it went to 1,000 posts and the vast majority of posters agreed that it WAS a ghastly trousersuit. Just about every newspaper also ran headlines about how unsuitable it was. If you felt my words were cruel then so are thousands of others.

We are not talking about a trousersuit we are talking about a false accusation. I don’t understand why a mature lady would even want to do that.

Anyway, I’m done. 👋👋

I was told that to make of minority ethnic names was a form of racism 🤔

Am not saying it is you Primrose.

The name Badenoch comes from the Scottish Gaelic Bàideanach, which means "drowned land".

Lathyrus3 Tue 18-Nov-25 22:02:22

Oh wel, that’s Ok as long as it the Scots🙄

????????

Lathyrus3 Tue 18-Nov-25 22:03:09

And Mahmood?

Thank you Babs03

False accusation? You well know that’s not the only time you insulted Angela Rayner Primrose 53. That thread was one you started, but there are plenty of other examples of you insulting her on other threads, not just about her trouser suit, and not just from a year ago.
You never answered my question about what you think Kemi Badenoch would offer to assist with the issue at hand either, did you?

I just had to look it up because ( curtesy of Terry Pratchett) I was pretty sure that Tir fo thonn was land under wave/drowned land.

The last few posts just made me think of the BBC.😬

I am sure Angela Rayner would be more than capable of defending herself and wouldn’t give a fig about perceived ‘insults’. Ditto Kemi .I actually quite like both of them. Can we just move on from this ? Please?

Whitewavemark2 Wed 19-Nov-25 09:20:11

My instinct which found me feeling very queasy over Mahmood’s immigration policy has been very firmly confirmed as correct when I read that Tommy Robinson approves of Mahmood’s immigration stance.

Europe will not sort out the migrant/asylum issue anytime soon, it’s like putting a bandaid on a broken leg.

Whilst there is war, famine, poverty and authoritarian regimes people will flee for a better life.

Aveline Wed 19-Nov-25 09:48:00

There have always been wars, famine, poverty and authoritarian regimes. Up to now there havnt been boatloads of young men arriving on our coasts with no documentation. Trafficking hasnt been found to be on such a scale.
Of course legal migrants with work or study visas and who have gone through legal channels are welcome.
I'm glad the government is trying to do something about the situation.

Absolutely, always has been - always will be.

Until countries cooperate to work together to sort the issue, we will see the spectacle of government after government trying and failing.

I suppose we could lose our humanity entirely and do nothing whatsoever to help our fellow man.

Casdon normally I respect your views and your posts are interesting but I think your attack on Primrose (with whom I often disagree!) is unfair.
The green trouser suit thread did have some rather robust comments (some were deleted) but, had it been that bad, I'm sure GNHQ would have deleted the whole thread.
As was pointed out, there have been equally unkind posts about other politicians and their appearance, their behaviour, their morals etc etc.
Why did this one touch a nerve? Someone mentioned "the sisterhood" but that's a non-starter as can be seen on GN!

As nanna8 said, can we all move on from the green trouser suit please? I'm sure Angela Rayner has.

Ps Badenoch is Kemi's married surname.
Gaelic is a recognised minority language, as is Welsh and others.

Not sure why everybody is going on about taking jewellery etc. Labour MP Barry Gardiner was on TV last night saying although it was a suggestion in Denmark, they never actually went through with it.

It will never happen here! 17 Labour backbenchers have now said they are against the plans SM outlined yesterday. Some very vocally.

I noticed Kemi Badendoch offered to work with SM to sort out this issue but SM was very curt in her reply. It would have been a good idea I thought.

I agree with you about working together. Immigration is a major concern in our country and affects us all so I would like to see all parties coming together to try to find a solution.

MaizieD Wed 19-Nov-25 10:29:35

Up to now there havnt been boatloads of young men arriving on our coasts with no documentation.

I set Chatgtp on the question of how many small boat people arrive with no documentation. It could find no figures in government statistics and no academic research which gives such data.

In the government data there is a category of 'not currently recorded' in their asylum seekers databases but this doesn't necessarily mean that the claimant arrived without documentation, just that some details of them haven't been recorded. It estimated that this (though not necessarily recording no documentation) comprised about 4% of arrivals.

Repeating exaggerated claims based on anecdotes doesn't do much for an argument.

Mollygo Wed 19-Nov-25 11:11:42

AI
data for the year ending June 2025 shows that adult males aged 18 and over made up approximately 70% of arrivals

GOV.UK
www.gov.uk

20 Oct 2025 — Since January 2018, three-quarters (75%) of small boat arrivals have been adult males aged 18 and over.

I agree 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Also Casdon a lot of people definitely don’t rate Angela Rayner and say so, and why ever not.

Well said Sarnia I would hope that politicians would see this.

Can’t help feel that Reform and Nigel Farage (sitting in the Spectator’s Gallery in the Commons) will expand their influence if Starmer doesn’t get a firm grip on small boats and the economy (more importantly). Currently it feels as if Reform is presenting as The Last Chance Saloon….

Kandinsky Wed 19-Nov-25 13:21:39

Reform are rubbing their hands.
They can make the main parties do all their work for them without actually being in power!
