"The former leader of Reform UK in Wales has been sentenced to 10-and-a-half years in prison after admitting taking bribes for pro-Russia interviews and speeches.
Nathan Gill, 52, from Llangefni, Anglesey, is thought to have received up to £40,000 to help pro-Russian politicians in Ukraine.
He was a Member of the European Parliament (MEP) when he accepted money from Oleg Voloshyn, 44, a man once described by the US government as a "pawn" of Russian secret services"

And I recall Farage et al collecting their generous wages as MEP's, doing nothing at all for our country, that moment when they, like petualnt small children, turned their backs on the EU parliament

Be very aware, we are all are defined by the company you keep, Farage. Many politicians accept gifts we ar not happy with, and som pilloried for pairs of glasses, but you, Farage, kept company with a Russian spy.

Farage is facing calls to investigate and root out links between Reform UK and Russia after one of his party’s former senior politicians was jailed for 10 years for accepting bribes from a pro-Kremlin agent.

Not a good week for Farage: he faces fresh claims of racism and antisemitism at school

"It is the hectoring tone, the “jeering quality”, in Nigel Farage’s voice today that brings it all back for Peter Ettedgui.

He would sidle up to me and growl: ‘Hitler was right,’ or ‘Gas them,’ sometimes adding a long hiss to simulate the sound of the gas showers,” Ettedgui says of his experience of being in a class with Farage at Dulwich college in south London

"My grandparents had escaped from Nazi Germany, and had always talked with deep gratitude about how they felt welcome in the UK,” he says.

*I’d never experienced antisemitism growing up, so the first time that this vicious verbal abuse came out of Farage’s mouth was deeply shocking.

But I wasn’t his only target.

I’d hear him calling other students ‘Paki’ or ‘Wog’, and urging them to ‘go home’.

I tried to ignore him, but it was humiliating. It was shaming. This kind of abuse cuts through to the core of your identity*

I would suggest very strongly that an investigation should be launched into Russian interference in the Brexit campaign and vote. This was floated at the time but I thought was just another case of angry remainers - a bit like myself back then - trying to vent their spleen. Now with this latest news about Gill I have serious misgivings about Russian allegiances during the referendum.
I can understand supporters of Farage thinking this is all just to have a go at their hero but a man is facing jail time, and Farage would keep the company of all manner of rogues if he thought it would further advance his career.
As for his antisemitic behaviour, is par for the course that far right nationalists are not just going to be racist against Muslims, that us just their latest target, they will also in the majority of cases by antisemitic. As Yaxley Lennon and his thugs are despite going over to Israel recently and courting the far right over there. I suppose that is a case of ‘the enemy of my enemy is my friend’.

Farage comes across as a bitter, unhappy young man, having to hit out at the vulnerable in the nastiest of ways possible - gas chambers, fgs.

Leopards don't change their spots, however well concealed in later life.

Its a "yes" to an investigation of links with Russia in UKIP times.

The time is right for an investigation and review into the whole Brexit debacle.

I am still waiting for a single benefit- and please don't blame Covid or the war in Ukraine for the cost of living crisis. Before the vote people were willingly admitting they didn't mind if the economy was hit...it was madness.

Whitewavemark2 Sat 22-Nov-25 09:21:09

We talked about Farage’s politics and racism on the numerous Brexit threads in 2016, but of course it was pooh-poohed by those intending to vote leave.

I think that there is little question that the referendum was nobbled - in fact it was deemed illegitimate by constitutional lawyers.

Farage’s links with Russia have no doubt been subject to security investigations and these should now be opened to the voter. I suspect that the issue would be that it would call Brexit into severe doubt.

Farages personal earnings need to be publicised more anyway. those cloning to the belief he really can "turn back the boats, I'll vote for him", need to know the sheer personal self serving greed of this man

Wyllow3 Sat 22-Nov-25 09:26:24

Clinging not cloning but rather a neat mistake anyway!

Ten years, so not a 'trivial' offence.

Time to have a deep forensic examination of who is actually funding, and hence controlling, the Reform Party.

BlueBelle Sat 22-Nov-25 09:48:49

Agree with most of these posts he is a criminal yet to be proved we did all warn of him in Brexit His funds and personal tax evasion need fully examining
I take exception to one post however Wyllow

Farage comes across as a bitter, unhappy young man
YOUNG !! He’s a nasty, lying, corrupt, far right, racist, misogynist old man

Ladyleftfieldlover Sat 22-Nov-25 09:54:21

Yet, apparently if a GE was held tomorrow, Farage would be moving into Number 10 pdq. It’s the trump scenario all over again. Both men should have fallen at the first hurdle and allowed nowhere near such responsibility.

Babs03 Sat 22-Nov-25 09:58:05

Sadly politicians who should know better are modelling themselves upon Farage whose success with some voters has encouraged them to err towards far right wing politics and become more hardline towards immigrants. As a result other political issues are falling by the wayside and this nation is suffering badly as a result.

Wyllow3 Sat 22-Nov-25 10:03:15

I meant when he was the young lad that said all those things, Bluebelle, to in the present. Was trying to imagine him then, and asking, "why"

I have had an email from Open Britain which says it all very well imo

"It’s a political scandal of rare magnitude, and a warning for anyone still under the illusion that foreign interference is a fringe problem rather than a growing threat embedded deep in our politics.

Gill has admitted he took cash from pro-Russian Ukrainian politician Oleg Voloshyn, a man plugged directly into Putin’s inner circle, in exchange for pushing Kremlin talking points in the European Parliament. Not exactly a subtle cloak-and-dagger operation.

Nigel Farage, of course, has been keen to distance himself from the stench. For months he pretended not to know Gill, despite working with him closely for years. Then, when the evidence became undeniable, he shifted the script: Gill “betrayed” him and was simply “one bad apple

It’s convenient to focus on one fruit, a strategy designed to suggest the tree is healthy and the rest of us should stop asking awkward questions. But that collapses the moment you ask whether it’s remotely plausible that Gill was operating inside a major foreign influence network with nobody else around him noticing a thing.

Then there’s the context Farage desperately hopes everyone forgets. His long habit of echoing narratives that delight the Kremlin - from claiming the West “provoked” Russia’s invasion of Ukraine to praising Putin as a world leader. Add in Reform UK’s own murky ties to crypto donors and deep-pocketed backers, and the questions become increasingly difficult to wave away

Judge Cheema-Grubb captured the gravity of the moment today: “Your misconduct erodes public confidence in democracy… When politicians succumb to financial inducement, the public can no longer rely on the veracity of political debate,” she told Gill

Hear, hear👏👏👏

Putin is a very happy bunny. He was thrilled when the UK broke away from the EU, fragmenting this bloc is something both he and Trump want because picking off weaker countries rather taking on the EU is much more preferable. So would make complete sense for both Farage and Trump to have allegiances with Putin.
But this does risk making the UK less secure and fly in the face of Farage’s promise to win back our sovereignty which he may have sold already to Russia.

Farage is shown up again for what he is and the company he keeps. It is quite sickening to think that anybody would actually want him in no 10.

eazybee Sat 22-Nov-25 10:26:38

Rather more important to have a deep and forensic examination of what exactly Keir Starmer is doing, at present.

LadyGracie Sat 22-Nov-25 10:32:08

And the company Starmer is keeping….

Babs03 Sat 22-Nov-25 10:33:55

Well you could start another thread on that.

The abuse of Jewish students at his posh private school was really shocking - the gas chambers/singing of Nazi songs. It shows that his behaviour is a longstanding part of his character. This was really disgusting in the late 70s/early 80s.

But Farage has always struck me as a clever and charming charlatan/chameleon - he hops onto the latest bandwagon oozing charm and sincerity
- Brexit - the Europeans are the problem - get them out (while ensuring his own kids had EU passports) - where did the money he promised us go?
- Forming Reform as a private company rather than political party with himself as major shareholder
- Migrants - get them out
- become MP for Clacton but then declaring he cant go there - but spends his time in the US with Trump
- Dressing up in tweeds to go to on the farmers' march because he has invested millions in land

At the G20? What kind of event did you think it was? 😂😂😂

He’s representing the UK at the G20 summit … a forum of the largest economies in the world that meets regularly to discuss the most pressing issues facing the global economy.

Is that a problem?

eazybee Sat 22-Nov-25 11:43:09

Yes it is considering the problems he should be facing in his own country and his excessive number of trips abroad.
A deputy should have been sent in his place.

But so much better to divert attention from his shortcomings by resurrecting historic concerns about Farage, who poses a huge threat to Labour.

Grantanow Sat 22-Nov-25 11:46:50

In my opinion the Reform Party should be investigated by the Security Services.
