The news is this is a realistic possibility, but depends on various approvals.

Birds of a feather stick together, I suppose.

For a mere five hundred million as well.

eazybee Sat 22-Nov-25 12:41:34

Oh no!
Coupled with John Lewis closing their carpet department.
What next.

They are both sensationalistic rags- let them do what they want I for one couldn't care less.

NotAGran55 Sat 22-Nov-25 13:06:39

Where did you get that information from please eazybee ?

JenniferEccles Sat 22-Nov-25 13:14:02

I was delighted to hear this. My two favourite newspapers.
We buy proper printed newspapers which in my opinion is preferable to reading the online versions.

A race to the bottom methinks.

It made me wince.

Effectively one less point of view in the media?

Interested to know.
Do you pick them up somewhere every morning?

I think I am right in saying I could have newspapers delivered. But the next day I think.

grandMattie Sat 22-Nov-25 14:04:49

I get DT every single morning. It makes me go out.
And I read it online but prefer the paper version in my hot little hands

I would have thought it'll be the same point of view in 2 outlets. They're both right wing but the Mail is a little more sensationalist in the way it communicates its views.

eazybee Sat 22-Nov-25 14:21:49

The Daily Telegraph is not a sensationalistic rag.

Magenta8 Sat 22-Nov-25 14:26:50

I have noticed how the DT has gone down hill. Years ago it used to be an intelligent right wing paper. Now it is just as trashy and bigoted as all the other 'right minded' newspapers.

The Guardian on the other hand has got better and is not as bang the drum left wing as it used to be.

So everything on the right is trashy and bigoted really!

Oh to be perfect and on the left 🤦‍♀️

Charleygirl5 Sat 22-Nov-25 14:49:02

OMG, thank goodness I am partially sighted and can no longer read newspapers.

LemonJam Sat 22-Nov-25 14:55:30

Magenta8- I read your message that you previously enjoyed reading the Telegraph, as a right wing newspaper, but since found it has deteriorated and become trashy and bigoted, as you have similarly noticed other right wing papers to be.

You previously found the Guardian to be decidedly left wing in its views but now find it has improved, is now more centre in its reporting.

I didn't read that you feel its perfect to be left wing and "everything on the right is trashy and bigoted"- more the case that you are looking for a newspaper that is not bigoted in its reporting style.....

MollyNew Sat 22-Nov-25 16:33:40

Does anyone know of a moderate newspaper which offers centrist views?

I never said anything about the DT being rubbish because it is right wing and I didn't use the words trashy and bigoted.

I don't claim to be perfect or left wing. I actually indicated that the Guardian is better for not being so relentlessly left wing.

I think you are reading more into my post than is actually there.

Magenta8 Sat 22-Nov-25 16:46:07

Actually I did say it was trashy and bigoted.{confused}
Aapologies, its been a long day.

GrannyGravy13 Sat 22-Nov-25 17:04:24

Magenta8 no problem, we all make mistakes 👍

I have always been right of centre, definitely not far right though.

I now find both the so called far left and right are entrenched and immovable in their views, oh for a centrist common sense politician/party.

True, you could save money, and just buy one of them, as they will be cloned. I suppose every cloud has a silver lining.

JenniferEccles Sat 22-Nov-25 18:18:23

fancythat yes we collect the newspapers ourselves rather than having them delivered.

It’s no hardship as we have several newsagents within a mile or so which is useful as the Mail in particular, does tend to sell out quickly.

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Sat 22-Nov-25 18:29:04

The country needs a serious right wing newspaper for balance. The Daily Mail & The Telegraph (yes, I subscribe) versus The Guardian and The mirror.

I agree that there is too much celeb tittle tattle these days, but that's sadly the world we live in.

I would say give Rothermere a chance, at least it stays British - sort of.
