I just saw that clip on Sky News, what an incredibly brave thing to do. I wonder if Australia has a bravery award because he certainly deserves one.

Yes, he sure does deserve an award.

Maybe we shouldn’t allow those marches that are basically a cover for antisemitism.

I agree the marches should be banned.

Oreo Sun 14-Dec-25 17:33:54

France banned them, they never even started there. If only we had done the same.

eazybee Sun 14-Dec-25 17:49:47

The marches should never have been allowed, but people who said so were ridiculed, and worse.

I think it’s one of those green spaces that runs onto the beach Allira, where people have their picnics etc. where it’s flat, and can look down to the sea.

What an awful day. I woke up to the BBC news headline Brown’s university had been attacked, this was then surpassed by Bondi.

There is a flat grass area between the car park and the beach where the municipal barbecues are, if I remember correctly.

It's easy to see that his actions directly saved lives. Such a risk he took - this man is a bona fida hero.

There's a road either side, I think. It's a long time since I went there but I remember being surprised at how small the beach was.

This is the map, it looks like it’s green space directly behind the beach, with a car park over part of the frontage, the barbecue area where the group were.

BBC Update:
New South Wales Health Minister Ryan Park says 16 people, including a child, were killed in a shooting at Bondi Beach.

Archer Park, I think.

It's beyond comprehension.

Apparently the gunmen were father and son and the father is now dead.

Of course we shouldn’t, but our powers that be are too hopelessly wet to forbid them. IMO the govt. are terrified of coming across as in any way anti, or suspicious of, Muslims. It would seem that they must be pandered to at all costs, extremist or anti-Semitic sentiments, or not.

Wyllow3 Sun 14-Dec-25 21:28:24

Freya, imo you are using an appalling event that no one at all would condone to suggest that therefore all our Mosques are promoting such actions.

They are not. Call incidents out for what they are, please don't slip into Islamophobic generalisations.

(Like "Starmer, a Hamas friend". This is simply not the case, he does not support Hamas any more than the rest of us int he Labour Party)

We also have no evidence that Hamas themselves is behind it, as opposed to "Acting alone" they have been clearly identified as Terrorists of course at this point but not any connections

Its dangerous to spread misinformation at this point.

I presume that means that means that there is no evidence trail on phones or computers, as they probably planned this in person. We may never know the background.

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Sun 14-Dec-25 21:33:10

Father (50, shot dead) and son (24, arrested). Licences for 6 guns and one of them was known to ASIO… seriously? Unbelievable.

Have people noticed that the hero also had an Islamic name? This no way fits in with the narrative, "they are ALL......."?

Wheniwasyourage Sun 14-Dec-25 22:28:47

Exactly, Wyllow3. I wonder if that is why the name of the hero was released so quickly, just to make the point that they are not "all the same".

Allira Sun 14-Dec-25 22:51:06

Whose narrative, Wyllow?

I have not seen that written in posts on this thread.
Posters are mentioning extremists and, sadly, this is what some extremists of all kinds do.

Quite agree Sarnia. It's a sad world we live in now. My 2 daughters are in their 40's and neither have children. I'm so glad. I feel sad for children growing up this world nowadays.

I can understand your being glad about your children not having children of their own. But isn’t it terrible that anyone feels this way. What a world!

I think the world is finally waking up to the Islamist threat. Our weakness is their strength.

What is our weakness?

Our weakness is allowing known islamist terrorists, including a a hamas chief, who lives in a council house in London, to be free and roam our country planning goodness knows what. Judges allowing islamist murderers, rapists and thugs. Taking in an army of unidentified illegals nearly every day, no checks, just money and freedom to roam. I include the Palestinian mob, in the weakness, and starmer, now a Hamas friend, who recognises a non existent Palestinian state, . The hate you see on you tube from islamists on our strerts and in the mosques. This is our weakness. Others are seeing what is happening here, that is their strength.

And they warned us they were going to take over our country. We cannot say we were not warned.

Kate1949 Sun 14-Dec-25 23:12:14

Most people, of all colours, creeds and religions just want to get on with their lives and live peacefully. Unfortunately there are fanatics.
