Nigel Farage breached MPs' rules 17 times

I thought we could do with a bit of light relief

Reform UK leader Nigel Farage breached MPs' rules 17 times by failing to register financial interests totalling £384,000 within the 28-day limit, the parliamentary commissioner for standards has ruled.

But apparently it's OK because he said it was completely accidental (you just can't get the staff these days) and he was really really sorry...

Will we forgive him. like the Parliamentary Commissioner for Standards has, or will we have a long, long thread lambasting him, like we do for Labour politicians who make inadvertent errors? grin

(Sorry, but I'm getting a bit bored by Trump)

If people hadn’t voted to leave the EU after being persuaded by Farage to do so we’d still be able to use the Dublin agreement and send people back to other countries.

It was not successful MayBee70. More were coming here than being returned.

And after Brexit?

Has Farage, who claims to be a Patriot, complained to Trump, about the slurs against our Armed Forces?

Has Farage, who claims to be a Patriot, complained to Trump, about the slurs against our Armed Forces?

He has, I believe, issued a statement. Because the media, as usual are asking Reform for their opinion confused.

I am not a Farage Fan by any means but on this he would have been damned if he didn’t make a statement, it would be taken as agreeing or failing to disagree with POTUS

He has now made a statement, and will get as MayBee70 has posted of course the media has asked Reform for their opinion 🤷‍♀️

"Racism, an overused term by left leaning voters to abuse people they do not know"

Sorry but I had to challenge this statement. I will challenge the behaviour of people as racist if they exhibit behaviour which I believe to be racist, not to abuse them but to remind them that I do not share their views. Staying quiet is being complicit. Farage, of late, has been very careful not to make racist comments but he is surrounded by supporters who do, I find that both interesting and worrying. why do people who are clearly racist support Farage? I can only assume it is because his policies and views align with their own. Can I make it clear that I am not labelling everyone who supports Reform/Farage as being racist but there is a lot of evidence that people who have put themselves forward to stand as local councillors and MPs have been found to hold racist (plus homophobic and antisemitic) views.

Thanks GNs. I look forward, for once, to hearing what Farage says to Trump about the shocking slurs.

Overlooking this kind of declaration seems to be quite frequent and across the Commons, maybe because it's delegated to junior office staff. Not the same as failing to declare tax liabilities to HMRC of course.

It’s not common for the same MP to do the same thing wrong seventeen times though, I think that’s the real issue. If you make a mistake, don’t keep on doing the same thing.

I suppose Rayner or Cleverly won't make the same mistake again.

Casdon Fri 23-Jan-26 19:21:05

I don’t think either of them made the same mistake 17 times in the first place. If Farage does it again now it has to be considered a serious breach. There is a difference between careless and reckless.

Key details on returns during EU membership

Dublin III regulation: this enabled the UK to transfer asylum seekers back to other EU member states, though the process was often slow and legally challenging.

Returns vs Arrivals: in the years before the Brexit vote, the UK sometimes returned more people than it received, but by 2018-2019, the UK had become a net recipient of asylum seekers.

Limited scale: despite having the framework, the number of successful removals under Dublin III was relatively low (eg 208 in 2018) compared to applications.

While the UK returned, on average, 560 people a year between 2008 and 2020, the system was described as inefficient before its termination.

From instagram…
“Still thinking about voting Reform?
Because they’re on your side… right? 🤔

Consider this…
Nigel Farage spent this week in Davos, hosted and paid for by the $10bn family trust of an Iranian-born billionaire.

So while he tells you he’s there smashing the “cosy consensus of global elites…
He’s in Davos.
With the elites.
Champagne in hand. 🍾😂

Meanwhile, Reform keeps taking multi-million pound donations from the very people he says he opposes”.

Maremia Sat 24-Jan-26 11:45:06

Wonder how many times he mentioned Clacton, while in Davos?

Let’s not forget this, too
The bravest person I have ever met," Farage praises Trump at Arizona rally

“President Donald Trump invited Brexit Party founder Nigel Farage on stage during a campaign rally in Goodyear, Arizona, on Wednesday evening, introducing him as "one of the most powerful men in Europe".
Mr Farage said of Mr Trump: "This is the single most resilient and bravest person I have ever met in my life."

Basgetti Sun 25-Jan-26 12:43:55

The draft dodger, brave?

Perhaps Farage should talk to some of the immigrants he abhors. I think he’ll find many are amongst the most resilient and brave people on earth.

Chocolatelovinggran Sun 25-Jan-26 16:28:38

If Mr Farage thinks that Mr Trump is the bravest person he has ever met, then I would suggest, respectfully, that he needs to expand his circle of acquaintances.

Oldbat1 Sun 25-Jan-26 18:22:40

What a disgrace he is! Doesnt say much for those folk who follow such a horrible selfish man and believes in him. I really hope some investigative journalist digs and dishes even more of his dirt.
