How long can Starmer survive? Getting popcorn ready šŸæšŸæ

It seems not very long at all! What an absolute mess he has got himself into with this Mandelson business on top of all his U turns.

He now has to release everything he knows about Mandelson and Epstein. Kemi Badendoch absolutely roasted him yesterday and his Ministers could not look at him. As usual he looked like a rabbit caught in the headlights.

On top of all this, Angela Rayner (who still has not sorted out her tax ā€œmistakeā€) is waiting in the wings. 😱 She is loving all this and ready to stab him in the back and I bet he regrets supporting her and saying how wonderful she is when she was in trouble.

Is it silly Tuesday today? The cabinet routinely meets on Tuesday mornings whilst parliament is sitting. Of course they will be discussing the events of the last week, but it’s their normal meeting day, not an extra, crisis meeting.

The sense of disappointment that KS did not go yesterday is palpable isn’t it? Some are clinging onto the hope that maybe today ……

I don't honestly think he can hold on indefinitely; it's just a matter of time now and the only question is how long can he stay.

DaisyAnneReturns Tue 10-Feb-26 10:55:54

Or talks. I wonder if the Government actually called them "crisis" talks?

Well as someone once said ā€˜a week is a long time in politics’

Oh. Going to write the same on here as another thread.

Could all the local elections get cancelled?

Who on earth would they stop all the local elections? Starmer isn’t Trump.

Because they dont fancy knowing the results!

This is delusional. On top of the fact that, as people on here have explained, there is a reason for the cancellation of some council elections, the government can’t just cancel a council election because they’re scared of losing. Look what happened when Johnson tried to prorogue parliament.

This is being discussed on another n&p thread,

Its also rather Trumpian.

It is. Sadly.

But is there anyone who thinks things wont become worse in thie Country?
With the USA often leading the way on some things?

I've only briefly looked at the news channel as it's all so disheartening and unsettling.

I don't know how KS sleeps at night with all this turmoil going on. He is hanging by a thread as PM.

The US is only followed if what it is doing is desirable.

While we know that Farage and his followers would love to copy what is now happening in the US, but whether they get a chance depends on whether they can persuade enough people to approve it by voting for them.

What is one person's desire is not another persons'.
And vice versa.

Much as I hate what’s been happening over the past few days here I’m rather proud that our PM came close to having to resign even though he wasn’t directly linked to Epstein whereas in America those with close links to the vile man are carrying on as normal. We are not like America. And I hope we never will be.

A load of media hype MayBee70?
Starmer is not going to step down voluntarily and the contenders for his position are waiting until May. Getting ducks in a row?

Apparently there are rumours that Farage is unwell. Of course they may be just that or there may be truth behind them but we don't know. What happens if there is no Farage? The Company he owns seems to be followed by many because of his cult status. There seems to be little reasoning.

He is not going to step down and they don't want a contest that includes him. In a very old-fashioned British way he is brave when it comes to doing his "duty".

eazybee Wed 11-Feb-26 08:37:47

Like persecuting prosecuting British soldiers who fought in Iraq?

I have a feeling OPs popcorn will be getting very stale now...no show here folks, nothing to see. Go home and find another media storm to enter...

I have often said that I think that Reform is essentially a one man Party.

I saw that yesterday too DaisyAnneReturns. It does raise an important question for Reform as to where would they be without Farage. I don’t think any of the other parties are personality led to the same extent, and they have processes in place to replace their leaders should the need arise.

fancythat Wed 11-Feb-26 08:49:23

This is why I have not joined in much with the angst about Reform.

Oreo Wed 11-Feb-26 08:55:35

For those rather desperately saying ā€˜ nothing to see here move along’ there’s plenty to see and plenty just around the corner.
Starmer has clung on just now but there’s the election in Denton in a fortnight and the other elections in May.It all depends on what happens then.
Am guessing that the other political parties want him to stay as Labour would be easier to beat with him at the helm.
It’s all a big mess.

Oreo Wed 11-Feb-26 08:57:17

After the Green candidate for Denton and Gorton has dissed the area, looks like she will be out of the running there.

Iam64 Wed 11-Feb-26 08:59:02

It’s all a big shame as well as a mess. Starmer has been disappointing since becoming PM. That’s without question. There’s no glee for me in any of that. The government’s excellent work is drowned out as the media adds to the dissatisfaction most voters feel
