Yet another U-turn for keir

The government has abandoned plans to delay 30 council elections in England following legal advice.

You would think that a former DPP would know the law.

fancythat Mon 16-Feb-26 15:19:34

He was forced to, from what I read.

GrannyGravy13 Mon 16-Feb-26 15:19:45

I imagine this is all to do with the new Unitary Authorities being formed and boundary changes.

Our local elections were cancelled last year, and I think were due to be cancelled again this year.

This is what I keep writing about the Law.

Loads of loopholes.
If someone can find one.

Good. I really hope Labour get a bloody nose and it makes them sit up and listen/take notice of how the country's feeling. I know that local elections and general elections cannot be compared but it will still send a message out 🤞🤞

Flip, flop, flip, flop, flip. flop. flip, flop, flip, flop, flip, flop, flip, flop, again and again and again and again ad nausium

He doesn't care how the country's feeling. If he did, he'd resign. Useless man. He's a "human rights lawyer" first and foremost, always was, always will be. It's not conducive with being PM, just doesn't work, too many conflicts of interest.

REKA Mon 16-Feb-26 15:36:15

Farage was taking him to court about it. Obviously Keir didn't appreciate the legalities

Yep, you're right Oreo, he should have been long gone by now.

Sorry, Opal

Am I the only one here who voted for him and doesn't want him to go?

I want him to man up and do his job, because I think the alternative will be chaos.

My area is affected by this - so we’ll now have elections. It’ll be interesting to see what happens with Reform. FWIW I think it’s a waste of money with the reorganisation coming up and all the resources that needs. However in another way , if Reform do well in the elections, it gives them time to mess up before the elections for the new unitary authorities so people can see them for what they are. So I’m probably on balance in favour.

I think it is already chaos.

fwiw, I dont see why someone else cant do the job.
Out of all the MPs there are currently.

fancythat Mon 16-Feb-26 17:02:01

Law seems to be in a mess.
In more ways than one.

Unless lawyers are becoming ever more clever,

Primrose53 Mon 16-Feb-26 17:05:00

I should think he doesn’t know which way is up after all his U turns and flip flops. 🤣

I would rather he stayed.

Spinnaker Mon 16-Feb-26 17:07:23

I think he must have got stuck in the 'U' bend 😂

theworriedwell Mon 16-Feb-26 17:13:53

Total waste of a vast amount of money. Still bullies win so some will be happy. Think of what could be done with the money, on second thoughts don't as it's depressing.

fancythat Mon 16-Feb-26 17:18:18

Why didnt Labour get it's legal advice right in the first place?

fancythat Mon 16-Feb-26 17:18:42

Are Reform lawyers cleverer?

You ain't seen nothing yet the economy could be doing a whole lot worse

fancythat Mon 16-Feb-26 17:21:53

Worse than RR?

fancythat Mon 16-Feb-26 17:22:42

I have a friend who is not a Labour supporter.

She said she would prefer Sir Kier, as thinks other options are worse.
