Should The King’s visit to America be postponed?

The visit is due sometime next month. America, at Trump’s instigation, is involved in a war seen by much of the world, as illegal. Mt Trump has been extremely rude and provocative to European leaders, especially to Keir Starmer.
If the visit goes ahead, I fear Mr T is so narcissistic, he’d see it as our Monarchy supporting him.
It’s been suggested the King could say his doctors advised against the visit. The decision though, should rest with the government, rather than expose the King to the possibility of being political
What to do?

It will be interesting to see if Trump gets completely mixed up, calling HM King Charles "President of England" or some such misnomer.

Anyway, don't you think we should all be celebrating the independence of the US of A?

Slight detour from the thread, but I think Trump is a bit obsessed with Newsom because he is being tipped to run for the Democrat nomination as candidate for president at the next presidential election.

Blank posts again!

Strange.

I personally think he should pass but he will go, he's going to face the orange Bully, take the higher ground.
This is not just about Trump it is about the 250th anniversary of the founding of the USA.

The King will be fully brief by the Government and Yvette Cooper is going to be with them, so he will be up to date on events.
Trump is a loose cannon but he will be fawning over KC3, going to interesting to see.

If the King could put in a good word for Ukraine I would think it would be worth it.

merlotgran Thu 19-Mar-26 13:14:13

I doubt Ukraine is on the agenda.

Do you think Trump actually knows what dyslexia is?

Iam64 Thu 19-Mar-26 13:37:04

Is Trump dyslexic ? Or adhd, or neurologically diverse 😏🙈

MayBee70 Thu 19-Mar-26 13:43:44

I don’t think there are any books in The White House these days so he probably wouldn’t know.

Kitty55 Thu 19-Mar-26 13:46:01

I don’t think the King should go to America. He’s in bad health and the Epstein files won’t go away which his brother is involved with. Also the eyes of Europe are watching and they are our close neighbours. It doesn't bode well for anybody to be seen in the company of this terrible man.

albertina Thu 19-Mar-26 13:47:15

No he shouldn't go.

It might wake the orange baby up to be snubbed.

REKA Thu 19-Mar-26 13:48:44

I think he will go. I doubt he wants to go but it won't be the first time he's had to do something awkward.

Delene100 Thu 19-Mar-26 13:51:52

King Charles visit should be cancelled. Not a good look to be seen as supporting Trump, especially in light of the nasty things he said about Keir Starmer, our fallen soldiers and the UK. Why should we put our soldiers in harm's way to fight in a war that Trump and Netanyahu started without consulting the UN and NATO? Let them get on with it. Trump cancelled his trip to China so why can't the King cancel his?

WithNobsOnIt Thu 19-Mar-26 13:54:19

I think the Kings visit will go ahead. And Trump will go all out to kiss Charles's derriere. Trump will absolutely love it

Maybe Charles an Cam are also using the visit to see Harty, Meggy and the grand kids as well.

Personally think Royalty should have been abolished centuries ago. So couldn't care less
.

Delene100 Thu 19-Mar-26 13:55:07

Not after the way Trump humiliated the Ukrainian leader in front of the whole world. If the King did go, and I think he shouldn't, Ukraine must not be mentioned.

MaggsMcG Thu 19-Mar-26 13:55:51

No not postponed. Cancelled completely until the 🍊🤡is gone.

Colls Thu 19-Mar-26 14:26:42

Def should NOT go ahead. But I expect it will. sad
I imagine Charles hates the idea (as he probably hated going round with La Truss after his Mum died).
But, with royalty, form is usually followed.
Perhaps an Iranian colours tie, that sort of thing?
He should take some very quick-witted advisors to make sure he is not manipulated - though tbh, alone he could out-think Trumper.
Poor Charles. sad

leeds22 Thu 19-Mar-26 14:37:25

Unfortunately I think he should go. To not go would cause a diplomatic incident from which Trump in his vengeful way would never forgive us. I am sure the King is used to keeping a straight face when dealing with the orange one.

Bazza Thu 19-Mar-26 14:37:48

No absolutely not!

Sueinkent Thu 19-Mar-26 14:55:31

No. The US should be completely isolated. Waging an illegal war.

He’s not going there to support Trump or the war in the ME. He’s going to honour a long standing arrangement to acknowledge and celebrate America’s independence.
If he snubs Trump he’ll be snubbing the American people who (hopefully) hold the UK in high regard.

Romola Thu 19-Mar-26 15:18:00

Is the king really well enough for this? Is this visit really necessary? And should the UK be seen to be sucking up to this deranged psychopath?

Babamaman Thu 19-Mar-26 15:36:25

Please please don’t go! Trump & the US have nothing but disdain for the UK!
Please don’t go

Babamaman Thu 19-Mar-26 15:37:24

Totally agree with you

Smileless2012 Thu 19-Mar-26 15:51:41

The last thing Trump wants is for someone he considers to be dumb becoming POTUS and being a damn site better at it then he ever could be.
