I feel so sad. She was such a great advocate for women. RIP

'If you do a programme like Woman's Hour you have to consistently remind yourself that women are a vast range. There are many, many, many different stereotypes that fit our gender, so there's no one stereotypical woman but our sex we share.'

How very sad. She stood up for Women’s Rights and was removed by the cowardly BBC.

RIP Jenni you will be sadly missed. 💐

Very sad and no age at all. To me she personified Woman’s Hour. Nowadays when I listen I expect her to pop in and tell the newer presenters that she’s back.
Not that the current presenters don’t do a good job.
RIP Jenni.

She had a very recognisable voice and a real radio presence.
A very prevalent part of my adult life was spend listening to her. A real positive influence!
May she rest in peace.

Rest in Peace Jenny.
Thanks for your Stirling work on women’s rights throughout your life.
Women’s Hour peaked when you were there

That was a shock to read. I had no idea she was so poorly although had battled with mobility issues and weight for years. Still.
RIP Jenni
I have fond memories of seeing you interview Sheila Hancock at the Royal Exchange Theatre in Manchester many years ago.
You were as ever the consummate professional who made what you did seem effortless. Brava!

Actually very sad and so sudden. She was recently discussing an upcoming cruise on the Danube in April. Can’t believe she’s gone.

I am really sad. She was a brave, intelligent woman.

I am also shocked and sad. I always read her column in Saga magazine.

Wyllow3 Fri 20-Mar-26 21:57:52

I really really liked her, she was part of my life for a long time as I listened so often and "spoke to our condition" as women. RIP Jenni!
And thank you.

I am so sad to hear this.

Her voice was so recognisable, she was a great presenter of Woman's Hour and a voice for women.

RIP Jenni Murray

Shock, horror! jenni wrote for both the Daily Mail and Daily Express!! Some on here won’t like hearing that.

Very sad to hear this news. l loved her on Woman's Hour but felt ahe definitely did menopausal women a disservice when she blamed her breast cancer diagnosis on taking HRT without clarifying things, like how alcohol and being overweight is higher risk for breast cancer than transdermal HRT.

JenniferEccles Fri 20-Mar-26 22:38:52

Yes she had a weekly column in the Mail where all manner of topics were discussed.
She was very open about her health problems including battles with her weight including stomach reduction surgery years ago, followed by her experiences with the weight loss jabs.
I seem to recall there was hip replacement operation too which wasn’t entirely successful.

During covid she took in a Ukrainian woman and her teenage son and they became firm friends.

She was very proud of her two sons and mentioned them often.

She will be missed.

She wrote regularly for the Guardian too: why on earth should we mind, she was spreading concerns for womens issues across the board. 💐

Very sad news indeed. I too read her column in the Saga magazine. A strong woman.
RIP Jennie.

It was a shock to read that Jenni Murray has died. I was a regular listener to WH when my children were young and I was working part-time. I remember a hilarious interview she did with Thora Hird. May both their memories live on.
RIP Jenni and thank you.

I remember the days when, as a young broadcaster, she presented the breakfast show on Radio Bristol, with John Turner (sadly also no longer with us). They made such a great team - the perfect combination of lightheartedness, but able to be serious when the occasion warranted it. Sheer professionalism. RIP Jenny

A wonderful voice for women throughout her broadcasting career.
