"Iran threatens to attack US forces in Strait of Hormuz as Trump says military will help stranded ships"

"Iran threatens to attack US forces if they enter the Strait of Hormuz, after Donald Trump said the US would help stranded ships out of key waterway

Trump says the US military will start guiding stranded ships out of the strait from *Monday morning, Middle East time

Ie, today, now. Iran of course threatens to act against it.

"Some 20,000 seafarers and 2,000 ships have been unable to leave the strait since the US-Iran war began, the head of the International Maritime Organization said last week
But the Iranian military insists it controls the strait, and that it will attack "any foreign armed force" that tries to enter - "especially the aggressive US army"

Its on the Live Feed

At the same time Trump insists "talks are going well".

But surely this means - US troops/ships on the ground which wont go down well at home? And possible escalation - again.
and knock on effects on our domestic front.

I don't care how intelligent Musk thinks he is, he won't outsmart the Chinese.

There must be $$$ in it for him.

David, until January 28th Iran made no demands on passage through the Straight of Hormuz. So, what changed, and why, and how have the actions of the aggressor in that event helped the security of the world, the people of Iran, or the people of any other nation that requires oil?

Maremia Wed 13-May-26 15:26:19

Musk always yens for more money.

David49 please stop twisting other poster's words to suit yourself.

He does it every time, whatever is being discussed.

David's 'price that has to be paid' is condemning millions to food shortages because fertilizers depend on petrochemicals. And how about the Arab oil states which cannot get their oil to their markets? Does he think they're happy to pay it? hmm

I haven’t noticed that but certainly have from other posters.

Of course they’re not happy, but those same Arab States aren’t happy with Iran bombing them for no reason either.
Iran cannot get away with saying that they alone control the Strait of Hormuz, simple as that.

If rump hadn't stuck his stick in the hornet's nest Iran wouldn't be saying it.

As it is, he has set in motion a global catastrophe.

I suspect Trump is hoping that he can persuade China to help dig him out of the horror.

I fully expect China to have other plans.

foxie48 Wed 13-May-26 17:49:09

It would appear that China might be willing to help with Iran if Trump helps them with Taiwan. Currently the US provides Taiwan with a lot of military support which is designed to deter China from trying to take Taiwan. Trump has already said he is willing to reconsider this arrangement. Trump is the architect of potentially even more instability in the world.

Maremia Wed 13-May-26 17:52:44

At the moment, Iran is getting away with it, whether we like it or not.
We don't get to decide that they 'can't' or 'shouldn't', no matter how hard we wish.
The Strait was free to sail through, before Trump started his illegal war.

Oreo Wed 13-May-26 18:05:05

Well, the US does! Which is why they’re blockading all Iran’s ports.

Smileless2012 Wed 13-May-26 18:12:27

Well, the US does! what Oreo, decides who can and cannot sail through the Strait?; apparently not.

No, isn’t allowing Iran to get away with controlling the Strait.
The US can wait them out by continuing to blockade all their ports.

AGAA4 Wed 13-May-26 18:27:59

For how long? The US needs to sort this as they are the problem. Trump started this and he is responsible for the chaos.
Blockading could go on for a very long time. Trump keeps crowing about how it will end soon but he has said that for months. Totally deluded as are his followers.

As long as necessary I should think AGAA4

Casdon Wed 13-May-26 18:32:05

It would be a terrible outcome if Trump does buy China’s support by no longer supporting Taiwan to remain independent.

Tbh it was always just a matter of time for China to take over Taiwan.

AGAA4 Wed 13-May-26 18:34:10

I wouldn't put that past him. He doesn't care who suffers to get his own way.

Maremia Wed 13-May-26 18:50:25

According to Sky, it would take maybe a week to get all of the ships out, but, the reporter continued, Iran doesn't have to attack them all, it only has to hit one.

AGAA4 Wed 13-May-26 18:54:34

I doubt the ships are insured if they try to cross. They would be mad to try without heavily armed warships guiding them through.

Maremia Wed 13-May-26 19:12:24

Meanwhile in China. Trump has touched down and Xi was not there to welcome him. Is that normal?
No high ranking officials either.
