Relatively new here so an introduction.

"Iran threatens to attack US forces if they enter the Strait of Hormuz, after Donald Trump said the US would help stranded ships out of key waterway
Trump says the US military will start guiding stranded ships out of the strait from *Monday morning, Middle East time
Ie, today, now. Iran of course threatens to act against it.
"Some 20,000 seafarers and 2,000 ships have been unable to leave the strait since the US-Iran war began, the head of the International Maritime Organization said last week
But the Iranian military insists it controls the strait, and that it will attack "any foreign armed force" that tries to enter - "especially the aggressive US army"

At the same time Trump insists "talks are going well".
But surely this means - US troops/ships on the ground which wont go down well at home? And possible escalation - again.
and knock on effects on our domestic front.

Thank you for your posts Elegran and imaround. I was aware of the POTUS' increasingly bizarre and offensive posts and watch, in astonishment, as his followers attempt to justify them.
Please keep us informed on the results of voting, imaround.
And yes, Casdon, I agree, we are in a strange parallel universe whereby we are more inclined to believe Iran than the USA, and the Chinese and Russian leaders seem to be " the adults".
The only reference to Iran by Trump after the China trip was to say "China would do what it could" to resolve the problem.
That might be a great deal, indeed, it will need to be and you can bet it will increase Chinas influence in the region.
Putin is in China this week, again this is all in Chinas strategic influence plan, it doesnt care who's fighting who as long as they gain when the fighting stops.
China will do what suits China.
We have to hope it will suit us too.
Going off piste, for a moment, and I don't have 'evidence"
but
Syria was mentioned as a strategic route to get goods flowing again.
Did anyone else pick up on this?
The DOJ seem to have made Trump's tax returns (and those of his sons) into a secret for ever, not to be enquired into. They kept very quiet about plans to do THAT. Can it be reversed, post-Trump, under a different presidency?
Interesting, Elegran. Surely such a move is unconstitutional ( illegal?) , and, therefore, open to challenge under a new regime.
You would think so, wouldn't you? Of course, there are a lot of things which would be looked at in a different light once the Trump regime was replaced by a more constitutional one, so there could be a lot of legislation repealed or altered.

Adults in the room? More like dictators and despots in the room.
China may well help the Iran situation as it needs its ships to pass through the Strait.Of course it will expect a little something in return, that’s politics.

Yes, but only on a limited scale, other neighbouring countries would be able to help Iran if they chose, assuming the price was right.

Dictators and despots yes, but experienced and competent at what they do, and with game plans. The contrast between them and the USA lack of vision and negotiating power is stark.

That's the weakness in many democracy's, inexperience, lots of vision but no real idea how to implement the plan and no control over the population or media comment
Really Casdon I don’t think so.
Look at the mess Putin has made in his war with Ukraine!
Supposed to be over in a matter of months if not weeks it’s now rumbling on years later.
The truth is, that wars started by either despots or democracies can go awry.
The best laid plans of mice and men….

It’s not just about this particular war. Competence is unrelated to values when it comes to how the world is run. When it comes to negotiation, Putin is uncompromising, and is widely feared. Xi is the same. Softer touch perhaps, but equally fearsome. You can bet your life they are laughing at Trump, and not even behind their hands.
The rise of China and the fall of the US. Putting a once mighty nation into the hands of a troubled child, who fired every competent person who disagreed with him.
Yes China and Russia must look on with glee.

More about this from Heather Delaney Reese - It starts "Today, we saw the “largest single act of grand larceny in American history.” These are the words of Rep. Don Beyer from Virginia . . . "

And now they have met up. To plot and plan.
Trump's illegal war is benefiting Russia. Putin can sell more oil just now.
Iran and Russia are already allies.
Will China join them?

China will stay neutral and benefit from both sides

Am not so sure about that, DT is very unpredictable but even if they were (looking on with glee) they’ll sober up in three years time.
DT is incompetent and mentally unstable.
China could be the new super power. Oil trading is being done in the yuan more now. The US need to save the dollar or it's bad news for them.
China already has a Navy larger than the US , an Army of many millions, nuclear weapons. Apart from a few border disputes with India at present is used for internal and reassurance purposes, nobody not even the US is going to intimidate them.
Their aim is to dominate the global economy and drain money out of import based economies like the UK and other western countries, at the same time they are draining resources out of developing economies. Increasingly they also dominate the internal commerce by taking over businesses, thats happening in the UK
