Obviously some will choose to keep that to themselves. But I went to the polls feeling very angry today.

Local government elections are meant to be about local issues, but inevitably they do reflect what is happening nationally, but this year I feel national issues completely hi-jacked the whole local government process, Todays local elections are being seen and have been treated in the media as a proxy national elelction to confirm or undermine our current governments legitimacy.

The papers are full of long analysese of this govenment, what it has not done since being elected, how long Keir Starmer can stay as PM, the back biting and infighting between contenders for his job. Local issues, what matters to us in our towns villages and rural areas. schools, potholes rubbish collection , who cares about that when we can have another photoshoot of KS, or another story about Angela Rayner

Anyway, i was so fed up I deserted the party I have voted for for the last 60 plus years and gave all my votes to the independents, one only 18. They seemed to be the only people in this whole shamble that cares about us, the people living in these different council areas and write to us about local issues.

One gran's 'fact' is another gran's propaganda. There'll never be agreement.

Aveline

One gran's 'fact' is another gran's propaganda. There'll never be agreement.

When the poster described what it was like living in Israel with Hamas rockets flying over their heads, she was given short shrift.

So some posters were not interested in the facts from an ordinary Israeli's perspective but just their own views from the perspective of someone sitting comfortably at home here or in another safe country, behind a keyboard.

I remember Phillipa saying she was going to the shelter as there was going to be an attack. Can't remember if I posted that I wished her a safe night or whether I just did in my mind 🤔

I'm not allowed to talk about another thread on here, and it's not particularly relevant to this one anyway, (just that someone had a go at an Australian poster), but this is what the poster in Tel Aviv said:

- that she lived in Israel
- that she personally knew MANY people directly involved who reported on what they saw
- that she'd actually MET one of the released hostages, sat down and spent time with her.

The poster was berated for telling us what factually was going on around her, probably coloured by her own fear as would be considered normal. But she was accused at one point of not actually even being in Israel but just dreaming up a load of baloney.

Maybe she will come on here to tell us again how it was, and how others' posts picked on her. If I have in any way got this wrong, I will apologise, but it was there in black and white and probably still is.

how others' posts picked on her

picked on? bullied?

I don't think so.

Rosie51 Mon 11-May-26 18:14:49

Were you around at the time sixandahalf? I don't recall your username from that time and it is quite distinctive.

Casdon

Can somebody remember the name she went by on here, I’ve tried Philippa, and it doesn’t bring anything up? I’d like to read the offending threads.

It was Philippa60.

Go to the mobile site and to advanced search. Enter her name and keyword Israel and it will return many threads from 2024.

Really? In what way? That was not my intention I'm just interested in whether you actually saw the threads at the time or are making assumptions/guesses now. If you feel I've bullied you I suggest you contact HQ and if they agree they will chastise me.

Graphite Mon 11-May-26 19:19:19

I've pointed Casdon to here she can find what she's looking for but why are people talking about this on a thread about the local elections?

Seems to me that, pages ago, one poster who lives outside the UK made a comment about the PM and the thread has gone off on a tangent about who's allowed to say what about completely unrelated topics.

Any chance we can get back to the original topic or shall we call this one dead?

If it's of any interest, racist Stuart Prior, newly-elected Reform councillor for Rayleigh West has resigned.

It's looking like the Reform intake of 2026 is going to be even worse than that of 2025.

I don't think so.
So have you found the thread, even if you weren't on here you seem to know? The Search facility doesn't always seem to work.
Posters are interested if you know which one it was, please.

No idea!

They're going down like nine pins, aren't they!

John Swinney has refused to meet the new Reform leader at the Scottish Parliament and has refused to invite the new members to a meeting which he convened.

If they won't even speak to them, it's not looking promising for progress in Scotland. They did gain the same number of seats as Labour. Perhaps Swinney needs to find out why and not merely try to blame Starmer.

Yes, I'm sure you are.

If you don't want to honestly answer whether or not you were around at the time, that is of course your prerogative, but don't be surprised if some people then draw their own conclusions.

Perhaps sixandahalf has read the relevant thread as I have done. The thread is still there even if sixandahalf wasn't at that time.

I'll try not to weep into my Horlicks.

Let's face it, there are a lot of people of here and possibly a few bots playing silly games.

If so wouldn't that be an easy answer to give rather than accusing me of being a bully, which I found unfair? Why create mystery? Perhaps you wouldn't mind being accused of bullying but I do. I've not heard from HQ yet, so I don't know whether sixandahalf has reported me as I suggested or not.

Your disagreement with sixandahalf has nothing to do with me rosie51 so no need to be snippy.

Well I've managed to find Philippa's comments. Nice lady.

I haven't read the threads and have no intention of doing so but as the lady is no longer around so cannot defend herself, maybe we could refrain from making comments about her. There have been lots of people on here who are less than kind and this can be challenged in numerous ways but once they have left the forum, that should be that.

Anyway, the original question was about voting in the recent elections so maybe we could get back to that as I thought it was bad form on Social Media to hijack a thread with other things.

AGAA4 Mon 11-May-26 22:16:31

Thank you for accusing me of all those things. Less than kind you say?
