How wonderful you work hard and buy a nice house in a nice area and Andy Burnham PM wants to put foreign men we know nothing about who come from third world countries in the house next door to you and your family and the final straw is they don't have to pay a penny it's all free for them, no wonder they are rushing to board the Mega Boats bringing in 230 men a time here. Ain't life grand well it is for them, utopia.

We also have to bear in mind that headteachers are female as well as male. Groups of misogynistic men will take no notice of female headteachers even if they did try to move them on. The police is the answer here.

Indeed. Headteachers do not have the power to deal with any person on a public highway, its not up to them to move anyone on. A female headteacher is particularly vulnerable outside the school gates, sadly.
I often used the services of our burly groundsman on our gates, other schools employ security, but all this comes at a cost. There are code words to use to alert the police. To say anyone just standing there, hanging around, is a prospective paedophile would not be right.

I saw a documentary about NZ once. In it migrants live in a nice sort of camp and receive information and training including language teaching on NZ life and civic expectations. Eventually they are helped to find work and a home outside the camp. Surely this sort of thing could happen here for approved irregular migrants.

I guess the thing is that NZ has to manage their migrants in miniscule numbers compared with Europe. So it's a far easier task. It's a good plan, but would be nigh on unworkable here due to the vast quantity needing support.

It was ever thus MartavTaurus. Growing up in the sixties at an all girls grammar which backed onto open parkland we ‘gels’ were issued dire warnings, couched in very vague terms, about keeping away from the boundaries unless in groups, no going near on your own. Enough was said to make us aware of something but in our naive ways we did not know what.

Most illegal immigrants are those who have overstayed their visas and disappeared into the black economy.

Being remote, asylum seekers arrive by plane rather than boat but, of course, the original New Zealanders arrived by sea in canoes! We had an excellent talk on this by the children's headmaster years ago who was himself a New Zealander.

Oh goodness, did you go to the same school as me? 😲
Dire warnings about going near the fence and punishment if you did. Of course, we met the boys going home on the public buses anyway.

Just a point, one many many have of us have made consistently.

Any Asylum Seeker arriving here, however they get here, provided they register their claim as soon as they step on terra firma, is not here illegally!

The means by which they arrive is “illegal”

There is no legal route or process for Asylum Seekers.

Those coming here to work, as some of you keep mentioning, are not seeking asylum, they are economic migrants, sponsored to come here, with working visa.

Those seeking asylum currently have no legal way in which to arrive, there is no visa which will allow them in here (or other countries) called “Seeking Asylum Visa”.

I wish those who repeating the mantra, those who arrive here legally are welcome, they are not Asylum Seekers, it’s truly not a difficult concept.

No legal routes into our country.
No visas granted.
No longer “illegal” once asylum claim registered.

International Asylum Law grants ALL Asylum Seekers the right to claim Asylum in ANY country of their choice.

Asylum Seeker HAVE to be in that country if their own choice in order to claim asylum.

“ In 2026, the countries receiving the highest number of new asylum seeker arrivals and first-time applicants in Europe are led by
Spain,
Italy,
France,
and Germany.

Globally, large ongoing displacement crises continue to direct the highest volumes into host nations like Iran, the United States, Turkey, and Germany.

Based on recent monthly and annual tracking data for 2026 arrivals and applications in Europe, the order of the top destination countries is:

Spain
Italy
France
Germany”

“ In 2026, asylum seekers in European countries generally receive state-provided
housing,
basic healthcare,
and modest financial allowances while their claims are processed under increasingly standardized EU rules,

whereas in most Asian countries—which largely lack formal domestic asylum laws—they receive little to no official government assistance and rely instead on the UNHCR or NGOs.”

All of you, without exception are entitled to your views/beliefs/opinions, and freely express them.

Doesn’t change facts !

It’s may not be right or what we want, it’s a worry, but please please look at the facts

This country faces far far more challenges than Asylum Seekers.

I too attended an all girls school, next door to an all boys school! We even shared some facilities, our playing fields were next to each other, with no fences!

We were heavily penalised if we spoke to a boy! Even though some were pupils brothers. 🤣🤣🤣

I’ve been wondering about the church in Piddington. Can’t find any statement from them online. I’d expect them to take some sort of role in this debate in the village.

I bet they are dead set against it.
It will be case all welcome but not in my yard!

We ought to start a separate thread on it Cossy. This one is too important for us to hijack it I expect. I’m happy to do so.

So sorry if I’ve not answered questions quickly enough for some of you, those that know will understand why!

My answer is, and always has been, if you’d had the courtesy to ever read any of my posts all the way though, no!

I have always acknowledged people crossing the channel in this way is not what I wish to continue and would love to see stop.

Maybe for different reasons to some of you.

However, I also acknowledge that currently there is no other route for them.

Also, with all respect, again if you bothered to read my sometimes lengthy texts, you’ll actually see that not only do I express my views, as we all are entitled to do, I also include stats and facts.

Yes, they are are problem which needs a quick resolution.

No, they are not the single largest nor important problem our country and our citizens face.

Sorry about typos, my mind is not completely functionally fully, but I’m sure you’ll get the gist of my replies.

I’m popping in and out of here in the hope of taking my mind of our critically ill grandson for a few short moments. thanks

I’m sure some of us know exactly how you feel Cossy. I have been dipping in and out for the last 18 months. A few moments doing something else can be a little light relief.

Very best wishes to you all and fingers crossed for Henry. 🤞

Whatever angle the posts about migrants come from I always ask, and will ask again, at what point do we say enough is enough? Quite how many people can this small country absorb?

Nobody has answered me.

Because nobody wants to or simply can’t say? Enough was ten years ago in my view.

Maybe because it's not possible to say enough is enough for those legally seeking asylum.

This country, in fact no country in the world, can legally disallow asylum seekers coming to claim asylum on the basis of 'enough is enough' because asylum seekers have a legal right to arrive in a country and seek asylum. This has been repeated many, many times.

Various countries can and do try various measures to process and accommodate asylum seekers during the application process but it would in fact be illegal not to consider and process their applications.

The country can and does however control regular immigration applications and can more legitimately determine whether 'enough is enough' in relation to regular immigration applications.
