Nigel Farage has won

Yes, Nigel has won the by-election with approximately 1,000 more votes this time than in the 2024 election, according to ITV breakfast news…

I don’t get it honestly, the GE is almost three years away.

There is always the possibility that Burnham could call a snap election to get a mandate for another five years.

I think if the poll bounce continues when Parliament restarts and continues after Healey's first budget, it could happen.

The ambitious changes AB says he wants to make could take five years or more to come to fruition, not least, a major overhaul of social care. He's asked Baroness Casey to accelerate her work but the report won't be due for another year which only leaves two years to start to implement.

X posts Cossy.
Thank you for acknowledging that my life was in bits during all this.

Think to be fair to FGT, she had more on her mind when this subject first reared its ugly head.

We all have moments when all we can take on board is current family situations.

Be kind, please flowers

We have to take personal responsibility for what we post - it’s our choice. Reform want to drastically change the society in which I live . It would govern for the few not the many. We know it wants a USA health care system - you’d think the GN demographic would care about that. Please don’t start a competition about what different individuals are going through. It’s not fair

I respectfully disagree.

You’ll be aware I’ll never ever support Farage or Reform.

We live in a democracy and each one of us has the right to choose whom to support, even if some of us simply cannot understand why.

With respect, I wasn’t in any way “starting a competition” about anything.

Sometimes, our minds wander off to place far far away from current affairs.

I agree we all have personal responsibility for that which we choose to post.

I choose to believe in mitigating circumstances and I stand by my comment of “be kind”.

It’s matters not to me that you don’t agree, that’s entirely your right 🙂

Cossy Fri 14-Aug-26 20:28:24

“Butterandjam” see my previous post.

Things happen, things pass people by.

I’d pretty much think by now FGT has understood and got the gist.

Let’s stop now, and move on eh!

Farage will get his comeuppance if there’s any justice.

I’ve have more respect if he simply owned up!

Never gonna happen.

Tuliptree, no-one is turning it into a competition and other posters don't know what others are going through unless they tell us.

However, being unkind and in fact intolerant because others are not as aware, politically astute or even read the wrong publications and calling them ignorant as another poster (not you) just did, is just impolite. Well, just plain rude!
Even if they are not having personal problems.

We know some posters have had their problems and heartaches recently because they have told us but others may not want to share.

Because my husband was dying and I only read novels for months on end last year, sitting quietly by his side. He didn’t want the news bulletins on, just quiet classical music.

A lot passed me by.

I’m not looking for the sympathy vote just explaining my ignorance and brain fog due to acute anxiety.

JenniRen Fri 14-Aug-26 20:41:25

No need to explain.

Tuliptree Fri 14-Aug-26 20:52:01

I’m sorry FGT but don’t post if you don’t know the facts. You don’t have to and you know very well that your views are controversial.

JenniRen Fri 14-Aug-26 20:54:27

FGT can post what she likes within the guidelines, surely?

The thread title is "Nigel Farage has won" so Farage supporters should be able to post.

I am not one of them.

Tuliptree Fri 14-Aug-26 20:56:11

Posting the truth is quite helpful. If you don’t know the truth, don’t post or find it out.

Whilst I one 100% agree with you, I still stand by my posts and a tiny bit of compassion wouldn’t kill any of us,

JenniRen Fri 14-Aug-26 21:05:26

It's difficult to know what the truth is where Farage is concerned.

Well, if we use “nothing” as our baseline, we won’t go far wrong 🤣🤣🤣

JenniRen Fri 14-Aug-26 21:09:52

😂
Well, if Jonathan Harvey is Count Binface, then Farage seems to be the Invisible Man.

Tuliptree Fri 14-Aug-26 21:11:57

Sorry Cossy but it’s not right to have different categories of standards. Not everyone chooses to share - you have, FGT has but that doesn’t give either of you a free pass to support far right politicians who want to destroy the NHS by not being informed about their financial donations. I know you don’t but FGT is a firm Reform supporter and has to take responsibility for her posts on that.

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Fri 14-Aug-26 21:14:26

I suppose we all join in and post. Just that some of us are more diligent about every fact.

That one (12 months prior, counts) passed me by.

Apologies.

Casdon Fri 14-Aug-26 21:15:02

You’re right there JennyRen, the complete silence from Farage today is most uncharacteristic, so odd.

JenniRen Fri 14-Aug-26 21:17:04

Don't apologise. This is a chat forum for grandparents, not the Oxford Union.
