Yes, Nigel has won the by-election with approximately 1,000 more votes this time than in the 2024 election, according to ITV breakfast news…

Maremia

There may be a lot of deletions, and it can be annoying when you miss the comment, but there are a lot of GNs, and new ones all the time.

For some reason, I always miss the original posts that get deleted and I've no idea how this happens as I'm all over GN sometimes like the proverbial rash.

Occasionally though, a deleted comment will get re-quoted and missed by the mods, but that doesn't happen often and it is confusing when posters are responding to it but you don't know what's been said.

I always assume it's personal abuse, or a comment that could be breaking the Law in some way.

LemonJam Fri 14-Aug-26 17:16:06

If someone reports a post as in breach of guidelines and its removed as in breach of guidelines what's the probelm.

I'm not sure why it keeps creeping onto posts when there have been deletions. Surely if someone who is disgruntled about the number of deleted posts its HQ that should be contacted if an explanation or clarification is required? Reporting is allowed and HQ decides if legitimate and merited and fi so deltas a post I assume. I also assume if HQ thinks there has been no breach there is no deletion.

I have never reported a post- and I have received some posts I perceive as plain nasty- but that's not to say I never would. Neither do I feel I need permission or approval if I choose to report.

Probably not penalty! No idea where that came from 🤣🤣

There is a prevailing belief that Farage, like Trump, is for the common people and stands up for their rights more than others, the phrases ‘he says it as it is’ or ‘isn’t afraid to speak out’ are often rolled out by supporters.
The thing is any party in opposition can say what they want and promise everyone jam everyday, Farage is no different. But if he did become PM there would be many who would seek to pull his strings and influence his policy making. So talk of using the Royal Navy to deal with small boats would soon be dead in the water - excuse the pun - due to defence funds needed elsewhere and others pointing out that no armed force is a vote grabber for political parties, they are there to serve the people during threats from the likes of Putin, so unless Putin dodges over on a dinghy I don’t think that idea will float. Nor will increased fracking, with wealthy landowners who live near areas he might see as rich for fracking soon putting paid to that idea as will anyone who lives nearby.
Farage is not a man of the people, nor is he anti establishment , he is a self serving man eager to line his own pockets, as we are now finding out, though I knew this already because the man has form. And he doesn’t speak for the people, he simply bigs up their prejudices and grievances producing catnip for the disenchanted.

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Fri 14-Aug-26 18:53:22

And yet … someone who seems kind and sensible - Prue Leith’s son, Danny Kruger, leaves the Tories to join Farage. Someone with gravitas in Reform UK gives me hope for the future.

Maremia Fri 14-Aug-26 18:56:06

And then it was suggested that BB should delete it.

Maremia Fri 14-Aug-26 19:01:18

Is that because you realize how useless the others are, Fried?

Chocolatelovinggran Fri 14-Aug-26 19:04:14

Hmm, Danny Kruger, FGT.. the Danny Kruger who says that women do not have the right to bodily autonomy..that Danny Kruger?

Graphite Fri 14-Aug-26 19:19:44

Even if Reform were to win an outright majority of 326 seats, Farage could never form a government. There are 150 ministerial positions to fill. He couldn’t even form a cabinet.

Current polling shows that Braverman, Jenrick, Kruger and Rosindell, the four Tory defectors, would all lose their seats. Pochin is predicted to lose hers too. She only won it by six votes.

That would leave Farage, Tice and Anderson, none of whom have ever held office in the UK, and 323 with no Parliamentary experience whatsoever unless people like Zahawi and Dorries were to stand and be re-elected.

The calibre of Reform councillors elected in 2025 and 2026 is extremely poor and has an unprecedented rate of attrition. Rarely a day goes by when one doesn’t fall by the wayside.

Farage would have to resort to bringing in unelected people to fill virtually every ministerial position and the democratic process would fail. Only elected MPs can speak in the House of Commons. Committee work, a vital part of Parliament would grind to a halt without decent calibre MPs to lead the processes.

Unless they were to win a much larger majority, they would struggle to get any primary legislation through the Commons. Even if they did it could easily be blocked in the Lords as there are no Reform peers. They could try to stuff the Lords with new peers but they would have to get that past HOLAC and ultimately the King.

Reform will only ever be a party of noise and no substance.

Yes that DK-awfully kind

Are we back to thinking that Reform Party could win an Election?
I thought most people had gone away from that in the last few months.

I do not think for one minute NF will stand down. And furthermore I think the inquiry (which is taking a heck of a long time - on purpose? - surely not!) will exonerate him.

Time will tell.

Upthread, you#ve already revealed your ignorance of what gifts MP's have to reveal, and when... the timing in relation to entering Parliament. Farage was CLEARLY in breach.

The Inquiry by the Parliamentary Standards Office commenced on May 16 2026. Farage resigned on July 5th, which suspended the Inquiry. He's been re-elected, therefore still subject to Parliamentary standards so the Enquiry continues.

Right here on GN, you are demonstrating exactly how a charlatan conman gets away with conning the ignorant and misinformed .

I resent your slur butterandjam insinuating I am ignorant of what gifts MPs have to declare etc and by association of your thinking that Im ignorant and misinformed.

Well dear lady - educate yourself.
Google is your friend here.

I rechecked MY understanding by asking Google “Was Farage an MP when he was given £5 million?”

The answer? (I already knew it, you obviously did not!)

“ No, Nigel Farage was not an MP when he received a £5 million personal gift from crypto billionaire Christopher Harborne in April 2024. He was elected as the MP for Clacton more than three months later in July 2024.”

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Fri 14-Aug-26 19:27:38

The source was the Guardian, btw.😁

Tuliptree Fri 14-Aug-26 19:29:59

The time includes time before being an MP

Graphite Fri 14-Aug-26 19:31:42

Reform is certainly plummeting in the polls.

I am simply pointing out the practicalities of electing a party which has no experience - which applied even when they were riding high.

LizzieDrip Fri 14-Aug-26 19:40:15

FGT I would think you probably know this:

“Under the House of Commons Code of Conduct, new MPs must register any registrable benefits or gifts (other than earnings) received in the 12 months before their election within one month of taking office.”

Tuliptree Fri 14-Aug-26 19:41:59

I’m just tired tired tired of this sort of lack of knowledge.

LemonJam Fri 14-Aug-26 19:43:43

Are you aware FGT of the detail of the declaration rules regarding the six month period prior to becoming an MP FGT?

Even Farage today to GB news has been covering his back before investigation findings become available. Farage said the only thing he could be found guilty of is not 'completing a bit of paper' with his declaration (as required) his £5million sum received from Harborne received within the 6 month period of becoming an MP. Thus Farage himself is showing his awareness of the rules and a potential outcome.

It won't be his first rodeo of breaching parliamentary rules but previously admitted doing so. This time he was found out by the media and he became defensive instead so has dug a hole for himself. This time it's a personal payment received of £5million he wished to keep hidden.

LemonJam Fri 14-Aug-26 19:44:19

12 months- no less not only 6 months....

I don’t get it honestly, the GE is almost three years away.

I’m far more concerned with the “here and now” and the solutions our new PM puts forward to help us all out with myriad of issues our people and country face on a daily basis.

Graphite Fri 14-Aug-26 19:52:20

All New MPs received this letter dated 5 July 2024:

www.parliament.uk/globalassets/documents/pcfs/advice-notes/parliamentary-commissioner-for-standards---members-induction-pack-2024.pdf

Registration of interests: urgent action required by each Member. The House requires Members, within one month of their election, to register all their current financial interests, and any registrable benefits (other than earnings) received in the 12 months before their election. Thereafter, any new, changed or expired interests must be registered within 28 days.

The main purpose of the Register is to provide information about any financial interest which a Member has, or any benefit which he or she receives, which others might reasonably consider to influence his or her actions or words as a Member of Parliament.

There it is … which others might reasonably consider to influence his or her actions or words as a Member of Parliament.

It doesn't matter what Farage thinks. It's what others might reasonably consider.

When that MP goes onto to promote beneficial crypto tax policy when the £5 million came from a man making billions from crypto what do you think others might think?

Cossy Fri 14-Aug-26 19:52:31

I’m just tired tired tired of this sort of lack of knowledge.

Me too and it’s so so boring to constantly repeat oneself.

I feel the same on the immigration and refugee threads. 😕🙄

Cossy Fri 14-Aug-26 19:55:04

Think to be fair to FGT, she had more on her mind when this subject first reared its ugly head.

We all have moments when all we can take on board is current family situations.

Be kind, please flowers

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Fri 14-Aug-26 19:59:37

Oh you smuggies
“Tired tired tired”
“Yes me too” etc

Maybe the heat is getting to you both. Or life in general.

Honestly there are nicer (kinder) ways of sharing knowledge ladies.

To be honest I didn’t know that although Farage wasn’t an MP when he received his donation that the previous 12 months count for registering such.

Why would I? As an ordinary Joe Soap in the street?
I know more than some (politically) and obviously less than others. 🤷‍♀️. So?
