"The Metropolitan Police is carrying out a criminal investigation into allegations Reform UK broke the law in relation to foreign funding, following a broadcast by Channel 4 News last week."

I didn't watch the programme but I will now as it was recommended on the Rest is Politics as shining a light on how Reform conducts it's business.

So the police must think there is a case to answer.

I can imagine that Farage and cohorts will be trying to clear the decks of a anything incriminating

MawsRosie Wed 09-Sept-26 15:26:44

About time.

Chocolatelovinggran Wed 09-Sept-26 15:35:13

Mr Farage has said, in advance of any scrutiny, that it is a "stitch up'. I'm more inclined to see this as a confession than a rebuttal of facts.

MG55 Wed 09-Sept-26 15:39:37

Good 👍

foxie48 Wed 09-Sept-26 15:43:08

Farage complained that it was entrapment but what was done was perfectly legal and ethical. You can only get "entrapped" if you are doing something that you shouldn't.

AGAA4 Wed 09-Sept-26 15:43:33

Glad the police are investigating. Reform should not get away with criminal activity.

foxie48 Wed 09-Sept-26 16:44:00

It's also front page news on CNN

" Police launch criminal investigation into allegations Britain’s hard-right Reform UK party broke campaign finance law"

Farage likes to be in the news, so I'm sure he'll be very happy or perhaps not. Will Trump threaten the UK govt for being nasty to his friend? Cambridge university is "examining" the conduct of James Orr, who stars in the Channel4 documentary. He teaches religion in the faculty of Divinity. Pity Orr didn't remember proverbs 28:18
"The one whose walk is blameless is kept safe, but the one whose ways are perverse will fall into the pit."

On CNN. Wow!

Peaseblossom Thu 10-Sept-26 14:07:37

always mudslinging at reform because they are scared they're going to win, but what about all the scandal with the other parties?

Peaseblossom Thu 10-Sept-26 14:10:37

"Hard right". BS!!! Anything that's not loony lefty or commie, is called far right.

Mud only sticks when there has been corrupt behaviour! Getting a £5 million bung when you are about to be an MP without declaration of such and blatantly working to circumvent electoral rules about foreign donations certainly looks like corrupt behaviour (whether or not the leader with his snout firmly in the trough was listening or not)

Reform think they are untouchable and incite mob rule - they are now finding out the hard way they are subject to the laws of this country in the same way as any other citizens.

Sorry, but all and any parties breaking the rules or the law will and should be investigated.

Almost everyone is “scared” of Reform gaining any power, anyone with a modicum of sense and who has truly looked through their policies, scrutinised their conduct both as MPs and local councillors and anyone who thinks all public servants and organisations should work with honesty and integrity, would not welcome Reform as a government with a majority.

The likelihood, however, of them ever being in power is extremely small.

I’ll be honest, if Reform is even still in existence by the next GE, I’ll be truly amazed!

Scandals have been investigated by the police on occasion with members of other parties, as is right if there are grounds to investigate. Nobody is immune.
And am not sure the Met are simply doing this because Reform might win the next election. Though tbh surely if the Met investigate and it is proved there was no wrongdoing Reform will emerge even stronger.
If there is no crime what is there to worry about??

Geordiegirl1 Thu 10-Sept-26 16:20:22

Seems he likes some things ‘foreign’.

In the Verbatim video:

“Mr Jukes also listed other supporters of Reform UK who, he said, had donated to the party via their children.”

I don't see how Jukes can credibly deny this evidence of actual law breaking. So it looks to me very much as if there is a crime to worry about.

Fallingstar Thu 10-Sept-26 16:41:42

Oh am sure there is something to worry about. Was trying to be a bit sarky. Doesn’t always work.

Strange how quickly we forget about past scandals, isn't it? Just have a quick Google of 'Scandals of Labour party MPs'. Very interesting. And then the blatant policy of Labour MPs slating private schooling, whilst sending their own children to private schools or somehow managing to slide off the waiting list and enrol them in the very best state schools there are. And hard right? Mm. We sometimes forget there might be a hard left....

Casdon Thu 10-Sept-26 16:47:34

Peaseblossom If proven then the offences being investigated will result in the appropriate punishment. They are potentially very serious offences.

Only today a couple ‘in the know’ were sentenced for betting on the 2024 election date.
www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cde0rk4r5jjo - it’s not unusual for such cases to come to court.

No party is immune to investigation if there is evidence that fraudulent political activity has taken place - it’s not mudslinging.

Those of us with a conscience don’t forget scandals which end up in court, or ultimately result in imprisonment Milliedog. The political party is not the issue, the crime most definitely is. Referring to past scandals won’t detract from the potential serious nature of these, either. They are all dealt with on their own merit.

DrWatson Thu 10-Sept-26 17:03:23

For Pease -- "what about others"?? BoJo got repeatedly castigated for his misdemeanours, and they got BOOTED OUT.

Starmer appointed an imbecile as a Chancellor, and utterly failed with his promise about eradicating small boats, where's HE now?? Try and keep up??

As for Reform, if you support a blatantly racist 'party' (which is formed as a private company - guess who gets the benefits??) then cast a thought to what will happen if they manage to send all brown people back 'home'? One quick answer is that the NHS would collapse in half a day -- you or any relatives got many appointments lined up?

Oh, and your pal Farrago has been a long-term admirer of Chump, you want this country to soon be in the same mess that he's sinking the USA into?

Fartooold Thu 10-Sept-26 17:06:13

@Cossy I hope you are right!!

Maremia Thu 10-Sept-26 17:08:02

Could be so, Cossy, they have lost their lead in the polls.

@Cossy I hope you are right!!

We can but live in hope!

On a fb group I’m on, they say he’s been dropping little sippers like “my family want me out of politics”, “my family fear for my safety”

We hope that means pretty soon, he might just resign again and chuck the towel in for good. 🙏🙏🤞🤞👍👍

SaxonGrace Thu 10-Sept-26 17:29:22

I’m more than happy for donations to be investigated, however let’s do it to all parties, Dale Vince’s millions to the Labour Party for one, Lord Ali paying for clothes for Starmer and wife, there are numerous instances that need investigating.
