So, take Tony Blair, because at that time I was only just left of centre, Blair really appealed to me. He had charisma, he was quite young, he spoke well and, at the time, I was quite taken by him.
By the end of his tenure, I loathed him, I considered him to be less than honest, I despised the way he took us into an illegal war, based on lies and I wondered how he’d (legally) accrued the wealth he appeared to have acquired whilst in office.
Likewise, I admired and had respect for Nick Clegg, until he joined up within the coalition and became Deputy Prime Minister, selling all his policies, along with any principles he may have had left, down the river.
It’s possible to support someone, realise they are not who they “pretended” to be and “go right off them”
It’s also possible to forgive someone when they’re caught out in less than honest situations, so long as they own up to their wrongdoings, genuinely apologise and try to be/do better. 🤷🏻♀️🤷🏻♀️
