The trouble is google merely provides Reform UK "proposals* and not much more. Labour has reduced small boat crossing by nearly 50% over past 12 months and huge success. Aside from asylum seekers the majority of UK voters are also concerned about cost of living, NHS, defence, education etc etc. Take one of those issues what Reform wish to do with the NHS as Cossy asked. Taking your challenge- Google states Reform UK :
Core Healthcare Proposals
NHS Voucher Scheme Introduce vouchers for fully funded private medical treatment if patients face specific wait times: failing to see a GP within 3 days, a consultant within 3 weeks, or having an operation within 9 weeks.
Private Sector Expansion Use independent and not-for-profit health providers to help drive NHS waiting lists down to zero within two years.
Tax Relief Offer a 20% tax relief on private healthcare and medical insurance to relieve pressure on the public system, alongside exempting frontline healthcare workers from the basic rate of income tax for three years to aid recruitment and retention.
Efficiency and Management Cuts Cut back-office waste and unnecessary managers, keep operating theatres open on weekends, and implement fines or charges for patients who miss appointments without notice.
Critics argue that shifting resources toward private care and tax breaks acts as a step toward an insurance-based or two-tier system Party leader Nigel Farage has previously stated an openness to examining alternative funding models—such as the French social insurance system—for greater long-term efficiency, though the party has downplayed immediate shifts to an insurance-only model due to logistical and legal hurdles
So Reform Uk would need to:
1) Find money PDQ to reward those who pay for private healthcare with a tax reduction
2) Find the money PDQ to cover voucher costs for those on the NHS waiting list to use in the private sector for their private sector treatment
3) Somehow find the money PDQ to enable the private sector surge to meet this new manipulated state funded demand in the short term.
4) Some NHS operating departments and diagnostic centres already do operate and stay open over weekends so Reform UK seek to find increased £ PDQ to expand this further and ensure sufficient staff available and pay enhanced rates.
5) Find the money PDQ to exempt frontline healthcare workers from basic rate of income tax for three years to aid recruitment and selection. The NHS employees approx 758,242 full time equivalent professionally qualified clinical frontline staff (this does not include unqualified care assistants, operating department assistants, porters, cleaners etc etc who are also front line staff) out of a total workforce head count of 1.55 million. thats a huge HMRC tax revenue loss over a 3 year period
Reform UK is clearly signposting by its unfunded proposals that it will intentionally shift investment of government finances to increase service provision in the private sector to meet healthcare demand. Reform UK has no policy document detailing any of these proposals and neither has it indicated how such proposals would be funded It has made many proposals then U turned over the years and realise the impossibility of implementation. Like all Reform UK proposals no mention of how the party would overcome legal hurdles Would you Trust Reform UK at a future stage to not then seek to shift responsibility for paying for private sector healthcare to employers via a employee/employer contribution insurance based healthcare model with deductibles as in the US leaving retired , poor, disabled and not actively working people without healthcare access?
Quite frankly proposals count for little unless detailed and funded. Lack of Reform UK policy demonstrates Reform UK’s proposals are pie in the sky and that the party is nowhere near being ready to govern.
