I have to confess I am very relieved. In its current form it was unsafe for the vulnerable and disabled. Burnham is right, we have to improve palliative care to offer a genuine choice
I live in a country where assisted dying is legal and has been for nearly 25 years. It is frequently misrepresented by the media and in fact the situation is nothing like those against it try to make us believe. Yes, there are some people against it, but there is no movement back towards banning it again and the vast majority of the population remain in favour.
Food for thought Macaydia, thanks for the long but interesting article. At 78 I so think about dying, but have yet to discuss with family. As a start I might write my thoughts down, .
Macaydia - Surely the law is neccessary because it's illegal (another law) to help someone commit suicide? If that wasn't so, there would be no reason for this legislation, which basically is qualifying that to say that in some very specific circumstances it would be legal in order to give dying people that option when they desperately want that.
