Really!!! Are we to be taken in by this virtue signalling? Oh dear! As PM there is a lot more he can do if he is sincere. Let's see.............
What a simply ghastly remark, says far more about you than our PM
Well done to AB.
Ran The Great North Run half Marathon, raising funds for the Homeless.
Nice to see such action from our PM. šš

What? Andy Burnham has committed to the largest post-war council housebuilding programme by announcing a £10bn government package to build secure and affordable homes. What else do you expect him to do?
Every government announces stuff like that. Wait till we see it.
Meanwhile he is decimating the rental market by making it impossible for small landlords like me to let our one or two houses. Nearly 30%of landlords are selling up.
For most, like me, it's not the new tenant legislation - most of us already used those good standards, or the reduced profits, it's the mountain of legislation being brought in, that we will, almost no warning we have to comply with.
Contrary to what you might think, most landlords like me, 'accidental' landlords, we look after our tenants, are not hugely rich and, like me provide affordable accommodation in rural areas where rentals are difficult to find.
Well, after the 30% of us have left the sector, that sort of accommodation will be a lot harder to find.
A family member manages rental properties. They arenāt talking about selling up, but about advising other landlords on recent changes (which I see as improvements. V

What is the mountain of legislation that is making life difficult, and why is it impossible to let your houses?
I think a lot of people (like me) have no idea why having standards entrenched in law should make life more difficult for those who were doing it anyway, so would genuinely like to know.
If by 'accidental' landlord you mean that the house(s) you let out were inherited, any rent after tax and maintenance is profit, and maintenance keeps the value of your asset(s) steady, or maybe even increase their value.
If you are paying a mortgage (eg after a divorce) then the odds are that the tenants are paying for your investment, so when you sell there will be no debt attached. It seems (on the outside) to be a win/win situation, which is fine in itself, but when the tenant is paying so much in rent that they can't save to buy even one house of their own it is very much less so, particularly as the cost of housing in many areas is prohibitive at best.
Making rents stay reasonably level, preventing 'auctions' and evictions to allow landlords to bring in even more profit means that young people in particular have at least some security of tenure, which may be inconvenient if someone else is offering more rent, but I don't know how it makes being a landlord 'impossible', particularly for those who were doing all the right things anyway.
Thatās his hobby, not a reflection on his ability to improve the country. His priorities are social care, council houses, devolution, homelessness. Without a better economic policy he wonāt be able to afford much of that unless he raises taxes. And so we all get poorer.

Totally agree with you Primrose.
^But when thou doest alms, let not thy left hand know what thy right hand doeth: That thine alms may be in secret^
I remember with absolute clarity when GB TV channel was raising money, I think it was last winter for the elderly via a charity
You can check out who raised this and also
I and many others who don't necessarily like GB news joined in thanking them as it was a worthwhile cause
Care to look? Even handedness?

I donāt follow that logic Olivebranch, because surely the priorities you list do benefit people if they are achieved? We will be taxed more, but itās not for nothing, as we donāt all get poorer?
Great effort by the Prime Minister running the half marathon to raise funds for the homeless. Always positive to see leaders supporting important causes.
Well done to Andy Burnham. He comes across as a genuinely caring person. He has the common touch and that is a rare gift in a politician.

Go Burnham. We are given a leader who cares, even if we disagree with a lot.
Self indulgent . We donāt need him to waste his time running for relatively small amounts of money to make himself feel good . We need him to be sorting out the big issues . Homelessness isnāt one of them - most homeless people are addicts and need to go straight to rehab . Appoint a minister to sort it out .This is grandstanding and a waste of his valuable time given the mess weāre all in .
Essay title:
Farage accumulates personal wealth with his multiple "times out".
Burnham runs for a much needed charity"
Compare and contrast.
Why not ask just one question in google?
Florence Eshalomi serves as the homelessness minister working under Prime Minister Andy Burnham

Surely heās allowed to decide what he wants to do on his day off? Or are you suggesting that PMs should be on duty 7 days a week?
One of the best ways a PM can use their free time is to keep him or herself fit. The pressures of the job are so enormous that we should be praising the ones who do so, because being fit enables them to work hard as well.
Do you believe sending homeless addicts straight to rehab will sole this complex problem ? Surely not
Of course PMs should have some ādown timeā.
However, what a furore there was in the media when Keir Starmer said he intended to celebrate Friday evening dinner with his wife who is Jewish.
Of course, the media had decided on day one that they didnāt like Keir Starmer and would criticise everything he did.
AB appears to have a free pass from the mediaš¤
AB only currently has a free pass because the media are now targeting Nigel Farage LizzieDrip. One at a time you know. No doubt at all that Burnhamās turn will come.
How is running for charity a 'free pass'? Are MPs/PMs/civil servants allowed any time off? To eat, sleep, socialise, exercise?
It's hardly the same as a foreign secretary being on a beach when troops are pulled out of Afghanistan, is it?

Kier had a plan in place for giving money to councils to build more social housing.
But that is not showing any signs under Andy
I assume youāre kidding or simply not aware?
Why do you think heās brought Rayner back into the cabinet?

Doodledog respectfully, you may want to re-read my post regarding PMās down time and AB / KS media treatment āequivalenceā.
Of course, itās entirely up to you.

What a nasty, bitter and totally unecessary remark!
Whatās happening in our country? So much negativity, scapegoating and worse. I laughed with others at the French n Saunders sketch on the Dunkirk Spirit - are we down hearted - no (dad buried in a bombing)
Yes the world is in a precarious state. Africa and the Middle East war ridden, a dangerous man as Potus etc but in many ways we remain very fortunate in our beautiful islands. Misery guts š
I find it quite funny how he is running for the homeless when as Mayor he done nothing for them, more homeless in Manchester now than there ever were. He's all talk, left Manchester in £1.3 billion of dept, built first class apartments only to be sold to forgien buyers! Wasted £100 million on the clean air zone, he the smiling assassin and may be worse than Starmer ever was!!! General Election needed asap.
You might find it funny, but I find it very surprising that you donāt know that more homeless people moved to Manchester specifically because of the emergency support available there which wasnāt available elsewhere. It is well documented.
Thanks Casdon, in addition, we have increased numbers of homeless people because of fourteen years where essential public services were slashed. Plus the awful bedroom tax.
