Major incident declared this morning near RAF Fairford with home evacuated.
(362 Posts)The Army has sent in its bomb squad after several men were arrested on suspicion of explosives offences near an RAF base.
A major incident has been declared and residents have been evacuated from “a number” of homes in the Whelford area, near RAF Fairford, in Gloucestershire.
Several men have been arrested on suspicion of offences under the Explosives Act.
RAF Fairford hosts United States air force personnel and has been used to launch operations against Iran during the war in the Middle East.
Gloucestershire Police said the Army’s specialist explosive ordnance disposal team were at the scene examining vehicles.
A police cordon is in place at the scene. Officers said the incident was “contained”.

And, going back to page 1, Farage was not shown to be correct.
Farage's speculation resulted with eggs on his fac- but never one to miss an opportunity. Farage tried to link events at RAF Fairford to small boat crossings 🤷♀️🥱.
The Reform UK leader was criticised over his reaction to the arrests of the men on Sunday, when he said he had been warning for months about “Iranian agents” coming into the UK across the Channel in small boats. “We deserve to be told the truth about the Fairford bomb plotters’ identities,” he added in his post on X on Sunday.
On Monday he posted a video in which he claimed to have received intelligence that the Iranian regime was using the small boats “to get their operatives into Britain”. Less than an hour later, Counter Terrorism Policing (CTP) said that the five suspects were all British nationals! It would be funny if he wasn't so divisive and provocative....
Whatever the true story around what happened in Glos on Sunday, I hope the airbase there continues to be vigilant and also the villagers.
Any other incidents could be very serious.
Over 200,000 have arrived on the small boats its obvious to me terrorists could be among them perhaps people shouldn't be so naive.
Terrorists are held for much longer than that 5.
Farage quite simply was wrong in his speculation- as he often is.
Foreign powers that seek to interfere have resources and mission led. Hardly likely to send chosen terrorists on small boats, risking life and/or French and UK Border Control detection. Then. on arrival to be detained for asylum seeker processing and investigation.
Farage didn't notice long standing Russian interference in his own party- should keep his speculative eye closer to home.
Well resourced foreign powers much more likely to use subterfuge.
So presented with information that makes no sense we should just assume others know best? I think it is very open to question. Then we can argue and debate. We are not state controlled yet.
Rocknroll- Your suggestion Police, Cobra and/or Counter Terrorism Police et al share the detail of their investigation evidence in real time so you can argue and debate seems somewhat bizarre....

The police have said the five suspects are all British nationals in their 20s from London.
It's you who is being naive wanting to swallow everything Farage and his entourage tell you.
I'm sure RAF Fairford will be reviewing their security. It looks as though planes are very near to the perimeter and possibly easier to access.
It seems these men weren't terrorists but they could have been and that would have been a very different story.
Retroladytyping
I'm wondering whether it was an exercise to test out emergency responses, a plot to test the security set up or even 'just' an attempt to break in to steal fuel or something. Seems very strange that what appears to be a terrorist gang would be released on bail, no matter how stringent the conditions. I guess we'll never really know - justifiably, for security reasons.
These were my thoughts exactly RetroLady
Graphite perhaps these 5 are but whatabout the other 200,000 plus who are undocumented. That's my point we don't know who they are. I'm not swallowing anything I've two eyes and the internet is freely available to me. Also being a British National means nothing now the Home Office hand out British Passports like confetti.

''There is no far left in the UK, beyond 'Wolfie Smith' oddbods. No mainstream parties, anyway. There are far right ones (Reform, Restore UK and possibly more) whether or not supporters see themselves as such.'
extraordinary Doodledog! you see Reform as far right but the new greens under Zack P and Jeremy corbyn supporters as not far left? Are you so sucked in to progressive isdeology..the pro-palestinians, any complaint issued against them as islamophobic? That women can have a penis? and that any complaint makes you a scary TERF? The reaction to this woke ideology is seen as 'far right' that is the shame. And swallowing it whole shows how far 'progressives' aka known as far left have infiltrated society through the portals of academia, the BBC and the old trusted Guardian...is unreal. so people keep their heads down and hope it will go away. But dont fool yourself it is very dangerous and men aren't women whatever they feel about it.
Your rant completely misrepresents my views.
I didn't mention Polanski, but no, I don't see him as 'far left' - partially as I don't think in simplistic left/right terms. I see him as an identity politics chancer who seems to have struck lucky with his representation, but I don't think he will last long when he is subject to more rigorous questioning than he's been used to.
I am absolutely not 'sucked in' to progressive ideology, and have swallowed nothing whole. In fact, I have been very vocal about my gender critical views on this platform. I didn't mention Palestine either, and won't be drawn into a discussion of Middle East politics - I have never commented on that on here.
If you are going to fly at particular posters making assumptions about their beliefs, it is often a good idea to see what they have posted before, so you are attacking the right things.
As ever this thread has deviated from the original posting. According to Wiltshire999S website two military sources have told them unofficially it was thieves seeking to siphon off red diesel from a nearby storage tank. But these sources said that was unlikely to be confirmed as it would be embarrassing.
Thanks Avalon, makes more sense than it being 'a Mossad false flag event', 'immigrants', and a thwarted 'dogging' escapade.
What were the other theories?
I am very aware that you have often posted gender critical views which is why I was bemused why you don’t think that when someone doesn’t agree with progressive ideology they are seen as of the far right!
Left and right makes little sense in today’s political arena. But that does not mean there are not two very opposing views over identity issues: The hallmark of progressives, who call out all opposition as right wing. What do you think that makes them? The far left and far right have never been interested in women especially when they had no power..now though the patriarchy is rattled. And, so good with language, asking women just to be kind as they erase them and reduce them to sexual stereotypes, objects of their own desires. Well it makes me angry as a second wave feminist who fought long and hard for the freedoms legally and financially achieved. All taken for granted. Class politics, of the left and right, no longer exists. The working class are looked down on and disrespected and will find a home elsewhere.
Crikey how does the incident at Fairford have any relevance to gender views?
Wrong thread?
Easily done
Isn't it an ongoing conversation on left and right, which was introduced earlier in the thread, and a bit of a feisty to and fro as well
Gender critical views do not fit neatly into single left of right wing categories- they span across the political spectrum. Gender critical views have no relevance to events at Fairford.
Fairford 5 arrested- no facts to date to evidence either right or left wing ideology motivated any of their actions.
Farage tried, in his usual tried and tested way, to promote division and anti immigrant rhetoric, as mentioned in post. Nice try but no bananas- Farage's conspiracy theory was extinguished within the hour by Counter Terrorism police to quickly put out any dangerous flames....

It has now been confirmed that the vans contained only petrol.
Sounds dodgy to me. Why would you drive about a 200mile round trip to pinch diesel and park up just a few yards from an air base? Well dodgy.
