Well what’s surprise. Not.
And after all that trumpeting from Starmer at the time.

The UK’s “one in, one out” migrant deal with France is on the brink of collapse, with a senior French immigration official claiming: “It’s over.”

I’d like to read whole story please.
Not a good thing, if indeed true.
I’ll hold off my comments til I’ve read the whole thing.
I thought it was 100 in, one out.
It never worked anyway. The French took the money and paid little or no attention.

Oh hahaha!
Yes links please.
The fact is Burnham promising closer ties with the EU in the aftermath of a disasterous Brexit will yield better results when it comes to controlling illegal migration than anything else.

I think you’ll find that was back in Bumbling Boris’ time!

👏👏👏👏👏
The Guardian and The Times are both reporting that the French want to end this agreement.
(I have only had time to read the headlines)
Rwanda was working.
Starmer lied
Now this 😡
My guess is that if this deal is about to end it is because it hasn’t worked rather than the French government simply pulling the plug for no good reason. So back to the drawing board, which I am sure both Burnham and Macron are eager to do.
I live near Gatwick Airport which has an immigration detention centre for migrants being deported. Recently there have been lots of reports of unrest because the detainees claim they are given little to no information on what is going to happen to them.
Rwanda seemed the most feasible option to me but was shelved by Sir Keir Starmer for this 1 in, 1 out shambles.

😂🤣😂🤣😂 Always nice to start the day with a laugh!
Come on, it’s been reported so many time the utter flaws in that scheme.
Ultimately Rwanda only had one hostel ready which couldn’t house more than 200 migrants from here and at what a huge financial cost?
Yes, aware other countries have offloaded their migrants there too, however I’ve seen zero proof or evidence that those migrants actually stayed there or are even still alive!
Rwanda was working !!!!
✅ Zero people were forcibly sent to Rwanda under the main deportation scheme.
• Forcibly deported: 0 asylum seekers were sent on deportation flights.
• Voluntary removals: 4 individuals went to Rwanda under a separate, voluntary migration programme.
• Total cost: Approximately £715 million was spent on the policy before it was cancelled.
Rwanda was working!!!! £715,000,000 poured down the drain! - on an immoral scheme.
These comments are strange, given it was a pilot scheme which was due to end on 1st October anyway. There’s not much point in continuing a pilot if it proves not to deliver the anticipated benefits. I do wonder sometimes if people on here are familiar with the ways of government.
Loads of migrants ended up in Dublin. When asked why they were in Dublin, the answer was that they didn't want to be sent to Rwanda.
If every illegal migrant was sent the next day to Rwanda, the boats wold stop within the week, and if that had happened, we wouldn't even be talking about it now, yet alone paying through the nose for what this terrible Government are still letting us in for.
Mahmoud now wants to create a safe way for Palestinians, that no Arab country wants , to apply to come to the UK.
This isn’t going to end well.
If every illegal migrant was sent the next day to Rwanda, .... how do you assess the legality of an asylum claim in one day? Or do you just look at the colour of their skin and boot them out?
FGT
You are forgetting some salient facts
1) Rwanda could only accept 200 of our migrants as nothing was ready in Rwanda for the UK migrants arrivals, despite literally millions and millions of ££££ being handed over.
2) The High Court deemed the scheme unlawful.
3) Many of those sent by others countries are no longer in Rwanda, for a myriad of reasons.

Why??
The Ukrainian UK scheme worked.

It’s a spin by right wing press, which those who wish to will utterly swallow without fact-checking.
Cancelling an agreement is very different to not wishing to renew it.
But it makes great headlines and those who hate Aslyum Seekers with a vengeance will be only too happy to repeat and reshare.
In the meantime, I wonder how many extra “processors” of asylum claims £715m would buy?
Or for that matter nurses, new homes, school budgets etc etc etc.
If you bother to add up the amount of damage and “wasted” money spent by the Tories in 14 years of austerity and I think you might find this is the legacy these PMs and their chancellors left our country.
Yet still you’re obsessed with people who make up less than 1% our population.
The bitterness, bile, and sheer hatred within our divided country must make the likes of Farage and Lowe rejoice.
For pity’s sake (& the sake of your own health, happiness and sanity), enjoy what you have, look to your own family and friends and just take a breath, even if it’s only for one day.

Stop it with the facts.
People are enjoying themselves here 🤣🤣

Absolutely.
This was launched as a bilateral pilot agreement in August 2025 and extended to run until October 2026.
That was all. A pilot.
Since then, in June 2026, the EU has introduced a new scheme called the The Asylum and Migration Management Regulation (AMMR). It determines which member state is responsible for processing an asylum application. It replaces the older Dublin III Regulation a more efficient system across the EU to ensure a fairer sharing of responsibility among EU countries.
I have posted about it before and how the UK could negotiate to become a part of it. It would solve the problem of dangerous small boat crossings.
Burham's conference speech:
... control over immigration was weakened when we lost collaboration with our European partners. And we are still having to work hard to bring it back. Later this year, there will be a UK-EU summit where one of the issues on the agenda will be how we best work together on immigration.
Of course if we hadn't made the catastrophically stupid decision to leave the EU ten years ago, we’d be part of the AMMR now.
