A general election (democratic eh not like Hamas) is taking place in Israel on Tuesday next week.

Israel has lost patience after nearly 80 years of terrorism and attacks from neighbouring states.

They are getting nothing but abuse whatever they do and never see fair reporting about the behaviour of their opponents.

They may as well completely absorb Gaza and the West Bank and evict any who don’t like it.

Those Arabs who stay and give up on violence will then have much improved futures compared to that on offer from Hamas.

In my opinion.

There must be an election because the current government has completed its full statutory 4 year term. The first to complete a full term without early dissolution or collapse since 1988.

It's obviously a critical referendum on PM Netanyahu's leadership, security strategies and his handling of wars in Gaza, Lebanon and broader regional conflicts.

Will wait to see what the country decides.....

Mmmm those of you who believe that this will be a completely fair and democratic election may not get your way entirely.

Do you really believe Palestinians will really have better lives if Hamas are thrown out of Gaza and Israel simply allowed to take over all the remaining land they “kindly” allowed the Palestinians to keep?

I’m no supporter of Hamas but I’m afraid I don’t support what Netanyahu is doing either.

There is fault on both sides going right back to, and before, WW2.

Do I think the Palestinians would have better lives without Hamas is like asking me if I think the world is round.

Do I think the Palestinians would have better lives without Hamas is like asking me if I think the world is round.

Has anyone actually asked Palestinians what they would want?

I can only imagine what they actually desire is for them to be free, in their own country, to actually make choices and to be free of both Hamas and the Israelis.

Fallingstar Sun 25-Oct-26 14:16:13

Yes Cossy, I wholeheartedly agree that it is no mystery what Palestinians want, it is what all human beings want, a land to call their own, and the chance to live a life free of fear and loss with their loved ones.

LemonJam Sun 25-Oct-26 14:18:51

2 sides to the story- equally Palestinians would have a better life and chance of survival in Gaza without Natanyu.

Smileless2012 Sun 25-Oct-26 14:19:52

Something they'll never get with Netanyahu at the helm Fallingstar.

Hopefully there will be a better government after this election. Could there be a worse one.
Their reputation for genocide has been well earned.

paddyann54 Sun 25-Oct-26 14:28:02

FGT do you actually KNOW any of the history of the region now called Israel?
I would suggest you do some research before posting more misinformation!Start with the Nakba
The 700,000 Palestinians from their homes, there were olive groves they had tended for generations burned, people murdered just for being Palestinians.
This vile inhumane behaviour has continued to the present day, although the pronouncement by a member of Netanyahu,s government was frankly the worse I have heard. He said “ tonight we have rid ourselves of 300 terrorists ,by bombing the maternity unit…we have stopped these Hamas becoming terrorists”
The Hamas he spoke of were NEWBORN children andtheir mothers.
Are Palestinian babies sub human in your eyes?
If so perhaps you need help….NO newborn is a terrorist!
Your mindset is very troubling if you believe they are!

I'm horrified. I think you have the evidence to answer your question, paddyann. Frankly, I despair about humanity.

AGAA4 Sun 25-Oct-26 14:33:26

They are very good at brainwashing people into believing all Palestinians are Hamas. This is particularly true of the IDF.

Yes, there could be a worse one. It will be a coalition of some sort and it depends how much power the extremist right wing parties have. It's highly likely they will still hold the balance of power.

LemonJam Sun 25-Oct-26 14:46:37

Whatever different form of government is elected if the genocide stops in Gaza- that would be a good result.

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Sun 25-Oct-26 14:53:12

At least Israel DO get to vote.

Maremia Sun 25-Oct-26 14:56:51

All Israeli citizens?
The Palestinians in the West Bank?

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Sun 25-Oct-26 15:01:25

One question, asked by Golda Meir: why did the Arabs not declare a state of Palestine in the West Bank between 1948 and 1967?

Then Clinton tried and Arafat embarrassed him by walking away.

The Palestinians have form.

LemonJam Sun 25-Oct-26 15:02:26

Fingers crossed Israelis use their vote for an outcome that would stop Israeli genocide in Gaza...
