over-use of phrases

My husband and I got sucked into watching the Great British Menu over the past few weeks and I found myself, every day, being so frustrated with the limited vocabulary being used. The most common phrase that really annoys me is "wow factor" (I can hardly bear to type the phrase!).

Could we be rid of "12.00 p.m." which logically is one hour after 11.00 p.m. that is, midnight. There is 12.00 noon, there is 12.00 midnight; there is no 12.00 a.m. nor 12.00 p.m. How sad am I?

Not sad at all Ariadne I couldn't agree more, but then I guess that makes me sad too smile

Journalists who ask How do you feel?to survivors of something quite major should be sacked-and journos who keep talking about rubbish films as genre and people who can't tell the difference between faze and phase. i'll stop

Jessm,
Butt is a friend or "mate" i.e. usually a small boy who helps, predominately in the mining industry. A miner , I believe, who was in effect self employed, probably "beating up" or "ripping", would employ others to help. He would be called a "butty" in some coalfields in the midlands, and from your experience, probably in the coalfields of Wales. It ,no doubt has other connotations in other areas and industries , Perhaps we will here from others with other interpretations?
hmm

"end of" really annoys me because I don't think a self appointed person has a right to put an end to a discussion or disagreement when it's in full flow. I also don't like "do the math" when it's said by an English person, it's maths in the UK, why do we have to adopt these Americanisms they just sound pretentious we all know it's not how we talk.
