Let's not ask a Grandad

I thought this was a Gransnet. I certainly do not want to see a topic discussing wind-up merchants that call themselves Grandads. Why do some women still fall for the antics of these manipulating old farts?

shysal Sat 01-Oct-11 09:09:27

I bet this puts the cat amongst the pigeons! Can't wait for the responses from the Grandads. Why are they manipulating old farts? Am I missing something?
Thank goodness jinglyjangly is back, this could get entertaining!grin

kittylester Sat 01-Oct-11 09:19:50

I was going to ask the same thing shysal. I don't manage to get on here too often and don't have time to read all posts so I wondered if I had missed something. sixtiesgirl please tell us!confused

Awww...we don't have that many grandads, apart from pompa and rob. I hope this is just a provocative gambit, sixties and isn't designed to chase our friends away.
And actually, they aren't specially old farts...grin

Hello sixtiesgirl. smile
Perhaps you're new and don't quite understand how the threads work. If you don't want to see a certain topic then you just don't click on it! Simples!!
Oh, and by the way; as you don't seem to understand Gransnet I should warn you to watch out for nasty trolls who post provocative comments to get a reaction. hmm

I'm a grandad of three years standing and while I will admit to being an old fart I wouldn't know how too and wouldn't even try to manipulate my wife.I would have no chance whatsoever you grans can rest easy as far as I am concerned.
However I do have a Lively 3 year old granddaughter who can twist me round her little finger and now have a 3 week old grandson who will no doubt be able to do the ,but I don't mind at all
It,s a pleasure to be manipulated

greenmossgiel Sat 01-Oct-11 20:00:23

earlybabe, my other 'alf is easily manipulated by all of the grandchildren and also by me! It's his reason for being, I think! He's known by most to be an old fart, and sometimes, as they pass by his chair (as he watches Last of the Summer Wine!), they give him a wee pat on the head! smile

glammanana Sat 01-Oct-11 20:28:36

Oh sixtiesgirl why do you dislike grandpopa's,surely you understand that grand- or grand- can be mother or father or weren't you liberated in the sixties as most of us where, I feel very fortunate to have beside me a manipulating old fart (as you call them) and I tell him so every day and he agree's with everything I say.grin

pompa Sat 01-Oct-11 21:00:14

With comments like these there are likely to be even less Granddads. I have been a member of Gransnet from very early on, and have always, until now, been welcomed. Surely Grans are Grandmothers and Grandfathers.
As there only a few grandfathers who regularly post on this site, these comments must be aimed at us. Yes I do post flippant chat from time to time, but it is intended to lighten the mood, and seems to be taken in good heart by most.
Sixties girl, you must have had some unfortunate experiences with Granddads in the past to have such a poor view. I am sorry that your experiences have caused you to be so biased.

Regardless, I shall continue to post in the manner to which many of you have become accustomed and hope it may produce the odd chuckle.

pompa Sat 01-Oct-11 21:03:22

Oh, and by the way, the farting does come with age, but being old doesn't, it is a frame of mind. GNHQ can we have a fart smiley grin

Jacey Sat 01-Oct-11 21:07:21

Well said pompa smile

pompa Sat 01-Oct-11 21:11:41

Oh and by the way Sixties girl if you are going to post in Pedants corner, it is Granddads not Grandads. Grandads is a recently accepted misspelling.

Notsogrand Sat 01-Oct-11 21:22:52

Go pompa!!

yogagran Sat 01-Oct-11 21:26:51

I would like everyone to note that I welcome Grans of both sexes.
We need a few Granddads to even out the balance and add a different perspective on some subjects, so keep posting and joining in Granddads please

greenmossgiel Sat 01-Oct-11 22:37:19

I'm all for that! I don't see why it should only be Grandmas on here, either! I always read the posts made by Granddads, because they invariably give a different angle. So lets hear it for the fellas! smile

GrannyTunnocks Sat 01-Oct-11 22:39:54

I don't mind the grandads joining us as long as they keep the farting to a minimum. i hear enough of that at home.

greenmossgiel Sat 01-Oct-11 22:43:04

Oh, I agree GrannyTunnocks! At least on here it'll just be virtual farting - at home it's actual.....and not very nice at all....! grin

pompa Sat 01-Oct-11 22:46:31

Now come on Grandmas, are you trying to pretend that you never pass wind inadvertently ??

Annobel Sat 01-Oct-11 23:00:33

Do we think sixtiesgirl is a troll?

harrigran Sat 01-Oct-11 23:49:58

No pompa it's my virtual dog and yes we think sixtiesgirl is being unfair to Granddads.

absentgrana Sun 02-Oct-11 10:33:24

We have women d'un certain âge who aren't actually grandmothers but otherwise have much in common with those of us who are and younger women who are mums seeking advice or escape when feeling a bit bullied on mumsnet. I don't think any of us resent them, so why shouldn't we have grandfathers too? sixtiesgirl I don't think that there was a vote appointing you head of the gransnet police. smile

grandmaagain Sun 02-Oct-11 11:01:40

I think sixtiesgirl IS a troll
so for the record I adored my Grandads, just as my GCs adore theirs.
so power to all grandads and all are welcome here smile

yogagran Sun 02-Oct-11 11:13:17

I also wondered if sixtiesgirl was a troll. How can we find out for sure?

GeraldineGransnet (GNHQ) Sun 02-Oct-11 11:47:57

We don't think sixtiesgirl is a troll. We do think she's quite funny (sorry Pompa, we love you and would hate to be without you - but think she's winding us up on this occasion).

Notsogrand Sun 02-Oct-11 12:40:50

Her use of the word 'manipulating' prevented everything else she said from possibly being amusing, and tipped it towards unpleasant.
