I'm not sure that I took her comments as funny, far from it, they were plain insulting.
However let's not rise to her bait any further. We are all very tolerant of each others opinions and get on fine.

Agree pompa ...did wonder if her comments arose from some postings on ...I think ...the Strictly thread ...about what some GNs are allowed to watch?

I would love to see more granddads on here. It's not supposed to be a granny-ghetto, surely?

How do we know how many granddads we have on here, it is impossible to tell from the name. I would never have thought earlybabe was male. I could be male for all you know. However the logo does suggest a women's site but as far as I am concerned gender does not matter a hoot.

Good for you Pompa! As long as everyone on here is polite and pleasant while posting their points of view, the more the merrier!

Elderflower, you are right the names do not always indicate the sex. I have complained that the logo is biased, but, guess what, I was outvoted. If you read the FAQ about the site, it makes it clear that the site is for all Grandparents. So Sixtiesgirl is stuck with us. I think a male perspective can be useful very occasionally, I would guess that there are just a handful of granddads on here regularly.

Maybe the confusion/misunderstanding comes from comparison with the name of Mumsnet, which is quite clearly for mothers?

Raggygranny, you are probably right, but I still think the tone of the original post was offensive and intended to stir up trouble. However it has obviously failed

pompa, I'm 'fessing up to being retrograde (in the Shakespearian sense): I shall continue to spell grandad with one 'd'. I don't think it needs two. We only pronounce one. Hope you can cope.

Hi Baggy, I would let all my friends get away with either spelling. I realise that the extra "d" is a lot to ask for in the busy world of a Gran. Especially as the scrabble dictionary allows both.

I think it is great to have Grandads on this site....they add a much needed perspective and we should have more ...not sure I could persuade OG as he is very sceptical about any ''chat'' sites. (he lurks on my FB however)!!

Grandad modern, Pompa? I had a Grandad 65 years ago.
I only know one grandfather who spells it Granddad and his family call him Double D because of it!

One of my grandfathers was always grandad with one d too, twobabes. He died in 1967. Perhaps it shows just how long it takes for easy but contrary ideas to catch on.

Don't get hung up on the dd's, I was only being pedantic as ykw had posted in Pedants Corner. My name is Pompa to my GS, not a d or dd in sight. But given earlier posts, someone did suggest that Pompa may be an adjective rather than a noun (you know who your friends are !!)

Earlybabe was a name given to me by the ladies under my control when I was working and it has stuck it never crossed my mind that it sounded female.Let me assure you i'm with Pompa although not in his class in computer use yet having just learned about the internet

I like to hear from the GDs. If any one of them had been unpleasant or - the worst of sins - patronising, then I'm sure he would have had a swift slap on the wrist by now. Grandparents share one overriding passion and that goes for all of us! M and F!!

Let's remember girl's with out our grand-dads or pompa's or in my case papa there would be no DGCs,so they are a very important part of our live's,and long may they be that.

Right with you Glamma but, given that they are 50% responsible for the creation of the family, I wonder why we have such a small percentage here on GN? I'd go to the other extreme from sixtiesgirl and say I'd welcome more G'dads. The ones we have already are possibly the cream of the crop!!

Surely equality is a two way stretch. The name 'Gransnet' is not necessarily a female only name and I feel uncomfortable when women are only too ready to jump up and down if excluded from exclusively male fora but complain if any man wants to join a group that is predominantly female

Em, I was accused of being patronising some while ago (it was not intentional) and I certainly did get a well deserved slap on the wrist from Baggy and a few others.

My DH would not be interested at all even though he has a very broad knowledge of many topic's and very varied opion's about a vast number of subject's,he is amusing but sometime's forget's to put his brain in gear before he speak's,he would make a fab GNer but unfortunatley he has a mental block with PCs etc,only thing technical he can use is the remote to switch on the footballoh I forgot he can plug in the iron and make short shrift of the of the ironing pile if supplied with a couple of can's of beer
