A woman on the telly the other night seemed to want to keep saying 'vigil' .....however, she didn't say 'vigil' - she said 'vidual'...

She said the situation became exasperated or something like that. I noticed it too - I think her job is something to do with education!

I have just been on a training course where the (very young, though I'll try not to hold that against her) trainer kept using the word 'insiduous'. I'm afraid I could no longer take anything she said seriously.

The afternoon session was led by a very old and rather frail academic who was a joy to listen to. He used nothing to supplement his presentation except his notes and his obviously very keen intellect. It was like a visit to the past

Nice to know I am not alone with my hate of 'nucular' it sets my teeth on endge. I used to work for a nuclear technology company.

It made me laugh to hear someone saying "I must get something to eat. I'm absolutely ravishing."

I do have a degree of sympathy for those talking "on the hoof", as it were, when they get things wrong. I would have trouble getting the right words at all. I will always remember the faux pas of that most articulate of men James Naughtie with regard to the former culture secretary James Hunt.

My big "beef" with presenters nowadays is poor sentence syntax, which leads to ambiguous meanings. I hear them all the time even on Radio 4.

The thing that irritates me most is the use of "I" where it should be "me", eg "goodbye from johnny and I". It happens so much on TV, I really don't understand why TV people are so reluctant to (correctly) use "me".

I agree that people are reluctant to use "Me" even when it would be correct. Apparently "I" sounds posher.
