Exasperated!

A woman on Breakfast this morning said a situation was 'exasperated' by something or another (no idea what, I was so exasperated!)

The thing is, I keep hearing it. It's almost as bad a 'pacific' rather than 'specific' shock

I think I need to get off this thread - I can feel the blood beginning to boil.

Went for my flu jab yesterday and was reminded how it annoys me that when I use the touch screen to check in at the GP surgery I am asked to click on 'arrive me'.

rockgran that's my strongest hate also.Politicians frequently do it.

A young friend who, amazingly, has a degree in english and drama shock obviously has a problem with the verb 'to have' and writes 'could of' and 'should of'. It drives me {{{mad}}}

thatbags Sat 26-Oct-13 06:53:09

I suspect that an EnglishandDrama degree might not include studying the structure of the language.

Here's my bugbear: recodnise.

News presenters talking about the breakdown of Laura Norder get me going...

Flowerofthewest Tue 29-Oct-13 22:25:40

Alooominum - I know it's the American way of pronouncing it but surely it is spelt ALUMINIUM, not by any stretch of the imagination can it be pronounced Alooominum!!!!!

Ana Tue 29-Oct-13 22:31:40

That's the way they usually spell it in the US, aluminum.

Daisyanswerdo Tue 29-Oct-13 23:22:48

Kil-OM-eter, eye-dyllic, somethink.

Anne58 Tue 29-Oct-13 23:36:16

I could scream very loudly, and yes, even at GN'ers who use "of" when it should be "have"

fLOWER so totally with you on that one! Would you care to share my pain over "labratory" that should be laboratory?

Flowerofthewest Wed 30-Oct-13 09:10:06

Oh got it Ana, I apologise then to all of my friends in the US of A.

Agree with everything on here but believe I may be guilty of 'fith' blush so will try harder.

Flowerofthewest Wed 30-Oct-13 10:07:30

hmm maybe have been practising my fiths and fifths and come out with fith all the time. Must get me teef fixed

Wheniwasyourage Wed 30-Oct-13 17:31:29

Oh I love these threads! All my worst hates keep coming up - thank you all!! Less / fewer and I / me are probably joint top of my list.

feetlebaum Wed 30-Oct-13 17:46:35

KatyK - Ketchup pronounced 'catchup' isn't so bizarre - the condiment can also be spelled 'catsup' after all.

Gally - Perhaps your contact with the 'could of' ans 'should of' should give his flaming degree back to whichever diploma mill he purchased it from!

Daisyanswerdo Wed 30-Oct-13 18:04:07

Apologies, I spelt 'kilometre' wrong (pronounced KIL-o-metre!)

annodomini Wed 30-Oct-13 19:03:47

I also say KIL-o-metre, Daisy. After all, it's an exact analogy with CENT-i-metre and MILL-i-metre.
