I suffer from a heinous complaint.- tautology. blush
How do I eradicate it? confused

Ana Fri 23-Oct-15 17:12:34

Oh - I thought this was going to be a thread about what the correct term for the study of tortoise behaviour is! grin

Alea Fri 23-Oct-15 22:22:30

Am I being dense (don't answer that!) but why the deliberate misspelling of tautology in your thread title?? confused

ninathenana Sat 24-Oct-15 00:02:59

And why is this in pendants corner ?
Alea perhaps your question and mine are connected. Did LuckyDucky do it deliberately to see if the pendants noticed grin

LuckyDucky Sun 25-Oct-15 14:04:58

OK, Alea, I'm busted.

I didn't know how to spell it. Secondly, I decided if wrongly spelt it would stand out like a sore thumb. I was about to type saw thumb, then decided against it. grin

Seriously, how do I stop it?

ninathenana Sun 25-Oct-15 17:10:11

I think that's the type of problem that requires professional help.

Ana Sun 25-Oct-15 17:18:07

Perhaps it would help if you gave us an example of your problem? For the life of me I can't find one anywhere on this thread...hmm

Bellanonna Sun 25-Oct-15 17:29:22

Why not look it up before posting, Lucky ?? Do you mean things like PIN number ? That's one example that springs to mind. I'm a bit puzzled about your question? Hope you're not avin a larf ?

Bellanonna Sun 25-Oct-15 17:29:49

The spelling of tautology I meant

Luckygirl Sun 25-Oct-15 17:31:32

Someone has been improperly tort. grin

Alea Sun 25-Oct-15 17:32:06

confused if you can spell it in the post, then why ever not in the thread title? Unless it was designed just to catch the eye like that blessed "backwards" R in ToysRUs angry

Bellanonna Sun 25-Oct-15 17:33:53

But why would she want to catch our eye ? I can understand ToysRus doing it.

Bellanonna Sun 25-Oct-15 17:34:38

Are you there, Lucky?

Ana Sun 25-Oct-15 17:37:35

Must have thought she was being funny...confused

Alea Sun 25-Oct-15 18:00:30

hmm

Bellanonna Sun 25-Oct-15 18:02:55

Two ways of interpreting that word Ana ......

ninathenana Mon 26-Oct-15 01:02:01

An example..
The students will take turns, one after the other.
one after the other has the same meaning a take turns, so is therefore superfluous.
The definition being 'Saying the same thing twice using different words'

Indinana Mon 26-Oct-15 08:54:44

I have no idea what the OP is about. confused

rubysong Mon 26-Oct-15 09:07:23

The study of very rich continental cakes?

Ana Mon 26-Oct-15 09:22:05

Thanks nina, but I was hoping the OP would give us an everyday example what she considers to be her heinous complaint! If it's so bad, she must do it a lot...

ninathenana Mon 26-Oct-15 09:41:10

LuckyDucky as your aware of the problem I'd have thought it fairly easy to stop (maybe I'm wrong) It would be worse if you didn't realise IMHO

ninathenana Mon 26-Oct-15 09:44:03

Bella I don't understand your comment about 'PIN' numbers confused

I think we're all confusing one another on this thread grin

Elegran Mon 26-Oct-15 10:11:43

PIN = Personal Identification Number, so
PIN number = Personal Identification Number number.

Bellanonna Mon 26-Oct-15 10:14:44

Nina: Personal identification Number Number. We should just say PIN, otherwise the word number is superfluous. I had it pointed out to me !!

And still waiting for LuckyDucky's enlightenment. She's definitely around, elsewhere.

Bellanonna Mon 26-Oct-15 10:16:35

More succinct explanation than mine, Elegran ! I do tend to go round the houses.
