Tenterhooks or tenter hooks are hooked nails in a device called a tenter.
Tenters were wooden frames which were used as far back as the 14th century in the process of making woollen cloth. The phrase "on tenterhooks" has become a metaphor for being anxious.

Probably not very clear, but a previous boss of mine had an audio to "print* thing (Dragon Dictate?) which would change "compromise" to "coppermine"

It's often used in the sense of a person keeping someone else in a state of anxiety about a decision, ie on tenterhooks.

Children will often get expressions wrong and often to great effect. Their lack of knowledge just makes the innocent remark all the more funnier.

My sister's daughter came out with: "It's a doggy-dog world." Well that's what she thought that she had heard, what else would she assume that "A dog-eat-dog world," would mean?

Gwenisgreat I have the subtitles on too - mainly because the music gets too loud but if I turn it down I can't hear the mumbling actors.
OH used to complain about them covering the film until I started to laugh at some of them, now he reads them too.

I was under the impression that if you are using social media it was compulsory to have a poor grasp of English grammar, spelling etc. The get out clause always seems to be "damned predictive text".
